Anyone got Diskless BOOT working under CentOS ???
Im trying to get a diskless boot set up under CentOS 5.2, and having no luck at all. I am to the point of running system-config-netboot, and whatever information I put in, I get an error message. Responding to the 2nd button on the first popup, which asks for NFS info, I put in the IP address of the current machine (the machine that will hold the boot images for the diskless machine) and the

Problem setting up diskless boot.
OK, I did this once, several years ago, but I have to do it again, and I cant figure out what this stupid error message is trying to say. I am executing system-config-netboot trying to create a diskless client for a diskless boot I constantly get a popup, with different error messages. I try to 'fix' something, and I get a different popup. The current one says: You

Diskless client from system-config-netboot doesn't boot.
Hi folks, I've followed a set of instructions I found on http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/centos_linux_guides/centos_enterprise_linux_sysadmin_guide/ch-diskless.htmli which describes using system-config-netboot to set up PXE booting. I used a CentOS-4.3 install (custom, all options de-selected, then anaconda-busybox installed after the fact) as a reference/base. I followed the

Source for Kernel
OK, perhaps I wasnt clear in my previous posting. I am looking for either a SRPM for the CentOS 5.2 centos.plus kernel, or more likely, a diff from the kernel at kernel.org. I was pointed to the wiki, which MENTIONED a Source RPM, but didnt point to anywhere to find these for CentOS. All Ive been able to find are ISO's . I really dont need a bunch of tools that will complicate the problem,

"General Error" in Firefox (CentOS 5.2) Video
This is a new instalation of CentOS 5.2 When I go to FireFox and try to watch a Video clip, some files transfer, and then I get the message "General Error" in the video window. I ASSUME some additional software needs to be downloaded, but what from where? When running on that Other OS, a message comes up giving you an opertunity to do the download. --

Newbie Question: Does smbwrapper/smbsh actually work?
I guess the uSSubject line says it all. Does smbwrapper/smbsh actually work? It took some editing to get smbwrapper to actually compile, but the changes seemed obvious (different versions of gcc?). However when I try to execute smbsh (RH7.0), I get to the message ERROR: can't get smbw shared lock which looks like it could be a difference between the way different OS handle things. So,

Samba 2.2.0 bug.
Ill report this as a bug, since I havent had any response to my question about it on the mailing lists. I am trying to get at the /smb file system. My understanding is to do this I MUST go thru the smbsh. When I try executing smbsh, I see: [reg@orion bin]$ smbsh Username: rwclemens Password: ERROR: can't get smbw shared lock (Invalid argument) Looking at the code its not

pxeos tool in system-config-netboot missing in CentOS
Hello all, Since the "pxeos" utility is missing per Bug #0002304, http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2304 which is required for me to setup a PXE server; which I'd like to in CentOS; Question: ... I am unable to find source for this; seems like the bug means that this was an oversight; perhaps the source is available somewhere and I can simply compile? If anyone is familiar

netboot arbitrary linux systems
I've been using pxelinux with good success to netboot knoppix systems. This is link has been the base for my work so far: http://www.babytux.org/articles/howto/how2netknoppix.php I keep all of the netbootable systems in /tftpboot/systems/knoppix-#.##, where knoppix-#.## is the filesystem extracted from the knoppix cd. I use a variation on the knoppix-terminalserver script to generate a

Netboot and PXELINUX
Hi all, I have just been informed that Netboot (http://netboot.sourceforge.net/) can be used to produce PXE boot ROMs. I wonder if anyone has tried running this combination with PXELINUX? This is obviously a really big deal... :) -hpa

CentOS6 and netboot
Is there any chance the system-config-netboot* rpms upstream removed from CentOS6 could be provided in extras? The CentOS5 SRPM builds cleanly under CentOS6, and upstream's workaround is insufficient as it only covers diskless clients, not helpful if you need pxeos.

dual disk netboot approach
Hello, My challenge is to run Linux on a computer where I don't dare to touch the Microsoft Windows harddisk. Fifthteen years ago would be trick to attach a second harddisk to the computer and boot from floppy disk. In 2011 is the idea to attach a second disk and netboot it. One approach is to TFTP the kernel and append 'root=/dev/sdb1' This E-mail is however to seek advice for

netboot, vnc and no keyboard/mouse/monitor
hey guys, I just created a custom netboot cd, that launches and loads from a http source, but connects to a vnc listening viewer. All in all, not hard to do, but what is different with this one is that it skips the media check, has no prompts and allows you to start the install on a machine that has no keyboard/mouse/monitor. Was handy for me as when i have some boxes to load, I just

help with syslinux config
I'm feeling really stupid here.... I seem to be missing something about the syslinux config file. I'm booting a workstation via pxelinux. Everything is cool, life is great, but I seem to be missing something about the config file. I have: display menu.dpy timeout 35000 default netboot label netboot kernel vmlinuz.nfs append root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=10.1.1.4:/home/image/1

Netbooting memtest86
I've been trying to figure out how to netboot memtest86 since terminals don't have local drives and I don't want to have to fish for disks with the memtest program on them for my machines that do. I'm in an etherboot environment where I can't figure out how to create a network tagged image of memtest86. Evidently I can use pxe somehow to allow me to start the memtest.bin file
