Suggested yum priorities settings for 3rd party repos
In the yum priorities page on the wiki Akemi Yagi suggests
http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/Priorities
[base], [addons], [updates], [extras] ... priority=1
[centosplus],[contrib] ... priority=2
Third Party Repos ... priority=N (where N is > 10 and
based on your preference)
If you have rpmforge, kbs, epel all set up at 10 then wouldn't
those also potentially overwrite

Why are all repos < 5.6 listed?
Greetings all.
I just enabled all repos on my system, to enable me to find
a particular package. This is the first time I have noticed
all the Centos repos < 5.6 being listed.
Is this a new feature, to include all repos pre 5.6 now?
Here's the output of the aforementioned yum command - sorry
it's a little bit long:
[root at karsites ~]# yum --enablerepo '*' --disablerepo

Recommended REPO Setup for Desktop on Cos5
CentOS is simply great. I use it as my main desktop. I use VMWare
clients for any "special needs" software. I am struggling a bit with
the plethora of repos and looking for some advice.
Would you opine with detail on the best repo setup for a desktop CentOS 5?
Comments: rpmforge provides fine rpms. kbsingh, google, adobe,

repositories
Hi all :-)
This is my first post: I'm coming from debian/bsd world.
A question about repositories:
minimal installation (version 7) provides:
CentOS-Base.repo
CentOS-CR.repo
CentOS-Debuginfo.repo
CentOS-fasttrack.repo
CentOS-Sources.repo
CentOS-Vault.repo
I known there are others repositories as:
RPMForge, EPEL, REMI, ATrpms, Webtatic (and maybe also others)
so, what kind of these

Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) Repo
May want to check out the new Fedora-Extras-based EPEL repo. There will
be overlap with KBS repos (in fact they cite karan.org as an example of
rebuilding Fedora Extras packages for EL4), RPMforge, etc. so be wary as
of any other 3rd party repo. The Wiki page says "The EPEL repository is
not yet publicly available -- we are in the process of creation and
initial testing phase.";

are RPMForge and EPEL compatible?
Following Fabian's blog post re: RPMForge being rebuilt for EL5, I've a
question:
Are there any compatibility problems between RPMForge and EPEL? In other
words, if I enabled EPEL previously, will I be able to enable RPMForge
as well without running into trouble?

searching for yum packages necessary for mail gateway
I'm looking for the Red Hat equivalent of this Debian statement
"apt-get ?y install postfix mailscanner spamassassin bind9 clamav ssh
webmin webmin-core logwatch libspf2-0 libmail-spf-query-perl"
"yum search" can't find some of the packages. Is there some sort of
online DB or something that I can search through to see which

problem with a repo
Hello,
I've got rpmforge and epel on centos 5.3. I'm trying to do an
install of perl-Image-Info for spamassassin image scanning. The package was
picked up in rpmforge since first, but it is failing to install because a
dependency is missing. I added perl-Image-Info to rpmforge's excludepkgs
line and tried to install the package again this time thinking it would pull
from epel. This

miro from rpmforge appears to have dep solving issues
Hi folks,
Anyone know the whereabouts of libgtkembedmoz.so()(64bit) as it is
needed by miro-1.0-1.el5.rf.x86_64 (rpmforge)
I tried a whatprovides and have looked at epel as well as rpmforge - no
luck.
While I'm asking, I'm looking for an internet HD TV viewer - miro looked
interesting - any other products you know of?
TIA

possible corrupt rpm database
Hello,
I've got a centos5 box that at least has a dependency issue or a corrupt
rpm database. I am open to suggestions as to how to proceed. I have added
some extra repositories to my yum configuration, centosplus, rpmforge,
atrpms, and the kbs repos. I haven't been having issues with installs or
upgrades until today when i ran a yum update, and got a missing dependency

Which repositores?
Hello all
I'm new to RHEL/CentOS so I'm wondering what repositories people
add/enable to get all the extras they want? Especially multimedia stuff.
I tried to enable [contrib] but that didn't seem to be available (yet).
I then added rpmforge and atrpms which seem to work. However I've read
that atrpms may wreak havoc on my installation; is it best to keep it
disabled? What about

problems with yum_priorities on CentOS5/RHEL5
Hello,
Many of you will have read this page, with its (somewhat ambiguous) endorsement
of yum_priorities:
http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForge
As I gather has been stated before on the centos list [1], that quote stops
short of outlining what exactly is wrong with yum_priorities (YP) and why it's
the best solution. In fact it goes on to say:

yum priorities question
Hello,
I have a question about working principles of yum.
Here are the details:
Installed package: GeoIP.i386 1.4.4-1.el5.centos
Repo: CentOS Extras
Priority for CentOS Extras repo: 1
"yum update" wants to replace the above package with the following:
Package: geoip.i386 1.4.5-1.el5.rf
Repo: rpmforge
Priority for rpmforge: 15
And yes, the following is already in the priorities.conf
