"TIMEOUT - WRITE_DMA" with SiI 3512 SATA on IBM eServer 326
Hi, I have a problem, probably with the SiI 3512 SATA150 controller in a dual-Opteron IBM eServer 326: Every once a while the kernel issues a message like: ad4: TIMEOUT - WRITE_DMA retrying (2 retries left) LBA=150190687 The system waits a few seconds and continues to work normally. It typically occurs several times a day most likely depending on the load of the (SATA connected) hard drive.

SiI 3114 and RAID
I've two machines with almost identical hardware (slightly different CPUs). The SATA/RAID controller is SiI 3114. One of the servers was installed a while ago by someone else, it's running Fedora Core 5 and RAID is enabled: # df -m Filesystem 1M-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/dm-6 125931 2990 116441 3% / /dev/dm-1 99

force 10 megabit full duplex
I figured out how to force 10 megabit full duplex on my ethernet interface. The trick is i need it to stick in case of a reboot so i don't have to reforce it. I have not been able to figure that one out yet. I have not found it in the man's or google yet. If someone could point me in the right direction i would be much obliged. -- My "Foundation" verse: Isa 54:17 No

Xen 3.0.2-2 + linux-2.6-xen-fedora
Did anybody have success in setting up xen 3.0.2-2 with a newer kernel than 2.6.16? I ran into the same LVM problems as mentioned before on this list (not being able to lvremove a snapshot). Now I''m trying to get the 2.6.18 running from the fedora repository ( http://hg.et.redhat.com/kernel/linux-2.6-xen-fedora ) but I didn''t have any success so far. The xen hypervisor binary

IAX2 trunking: codec bandwidth comparison notes and results
2003-06-28 Bandwidth Study - John Todd (jtodd @loligo.com) Purpose: ------------- To obtain a better chart of actual bandwidth usage per codec as seen "on-the-wire" when using IAX2 trunking between two Asterisk telephony servers. Discussion: ------------- Past threads on the asterisk-dev and asterisk-users lists have indicated that the optimal way to save bandwidth on

Problem with japanese programs
Hello. I have a tiny problem. I am running Character Maker (a japanese painting program aimed mainly for RPG Maker and the like). Now on Windows, it used the default system font, but when I run it under Wine it uses an ugly handwriting font. Is there a way to fix this problem? It also happens with several programs which were originally in japanese (such as Melody Raiser [from the same author] and

g729 and latency measures
Hi, we have set up a small project in a school the following way: SITE_A(4 port analog to ip g729)------ADSL_ISP1-------ISP2--------Asterisk-----PSTN Site A has 1 Megabit of bandwith (up 512kilobit down 1 megabit) The asterisk box gets internet service via a wireless antenna. 1 Mbit of up/down bandwith Comments: So far, this means that I will need licenses for the 729. asterisk only supports 20ms

change sector size in EXT3
Hello all. I'm having some trouble with a big RAID disk formatted with ext3 under RHEL3. The size of the partition is 1.5 Tb and the sector size is 32Mb. The partition was intended to store very large files (1 or 2 Gb each one) but the reality is that there are also a lot of TXT files (less than 1Kb). As every TXT is taking 32Mb and there are a lot I'm loosing around 300 Gb of space. I

XP printing problem fixed
Here's the story so far. I had a problem serving a printer from samba 2.2.3-6 (the -6 is specific to Debian I think) to a Windows XP client and found reports of Signal 11 in samba's logfile, so I filed a bug report (Debian Bug#135115) and also sent the log etc to samba@samba.org. The problem is now cured and I can print again, following changes I made to both the client and server.

OT: HOWTO: Create a 90mbit bonded link 600 metre s away with Cat 3 or telco wire [long]
I was given the challenge recently of creating a LAN-LAN bridge between two buildings several hundred metres from each other, using only existing Cat 3 wiring and without having to resort to an expensive and finicky 5 Ghz wireless link. I was able to create a 90 megabit link for about $3,000 Cdn with new PC's, CentOS 4.1, and the newly avaliable Black Box VDSL Ethernet Extender, which

icecast with midi/video
Hi, I am evaluating icecast for a project that requires video and/or midi data with the stream. I am bandwidth limited upto 20Mb/s so icecast would provide a good base to work from for low bitrate audio streaming. Ideally I would like to be able to serve data to 20 client devices. I am considering the tradeoff between streaming video content and triggering video data with midi events. Do you

Using opus on ATMEL 32-bit RISC microcontroller
Hi Jean-Marc, thanks a lot for your reply. > Well, the first question is whether you want encoding, decoding, or > both. If there's one you don't need then you can remove that > (unfortunately, there's no easy way right now). You're right! I forgot to say that I need only the encoder side (and only for voice). bandwith issues, ISP hosting services, etc
I am looking into supporting around 20 SIP clients (ATAs, IP softphones, etc) distributed in around 10 different end points (in South America). For the most part they all have narrow band connections 64kpbs, 128 at most and I?d like to use g729 all around (don?t have too many alternatives) To start with, I will have one * with no gateway to the PSTN and eventually a few * boxes with termination

Amazing, great protocol IAX
Hi; I've just had a couple of discoveries in the learning process that are really making me impressed with this software. 1) IAX transfer - I'm running Asterisk boxes A, B, and C. B is in the middle and has a dialplan that points to extensions on C. When a client on A in the proper context on B tries dialling a client of C, B is smart enough to release itself somehow from playing

Using opus on ATMEL 32-bit RISC microcontroller
Hello Daniele It would be worthwhile to attach an external serial flash or USB thumb drive, if the intent is store data. Ingress qdisc functional?
Hello all! I''ve just subscribed to the list after looking around on Google and checking out the TC source code a bit. Here''s my situation: I have a megabit DSL line that I''d like to set up some shaping on. I only have access to the linux router on my (client) end. Because of that, I was looking to do some shaping using the ''ingress'' qdisc. However,

disabling roaming profiles for some networks only
Hey everyone. We have two offices accessing the same Samba server, which is a PDC and file server. The server is located in one of the offices, but the other office is only connected by a relatively slow link (1.5 megabit/s). I'm looking for a way to turn off roaming profiles only for those users which are at the remote site. (It's a tad inconvenient when it takes an hour or two to

Simply IMQ
I''ve followed this list for quite a long time and have even posted a couple of times. I used the early versions of IMQ from Devik (I think that was his name), and it worked well. I only ever got the chance to implement it in my test environment. I now need to implement it in my production environment. My Linux core router has nine interfaces and has a 27 megabit connection to the
