esata
I am trying to get esata working. my lspci is below.
When I plug in the disk an turn it on - dmesg reports nothing.
Is it supposed to report anything like a usb disk does?
Is there a module to load?
My motherboard is GA-MA78GM-US2H.

External eSata ZFS raid possible?
Is this possible?
I want an external case with 4 HD in, each having an individual eSata cable. I plug in this case only when needed (each HD plugs into my PC separately), and do something like ">import ZFS pool" and use my ZFS raid. When done, I unplug it with ">export ZFS pool" or something similar command. This way I save energy, less noise, etc. I want it only as a

When I insert a USB thumbdrive its detected with dmesg, I mount it and
start to copy files.
Then I start getting errors:

how do export a block device via eSATA?
Does any one know how to, if at all possible currently, to export a
block device via eSATA? i.e. how do I do something like iSCSI, but
over eSATA?
I have a cheat ($15 probably?) media player at home (Egreat EG-M31B
Network Media Tank - awesome little machine) that runs some flavor of
Debian and can be connected to any PC via eSATA as an external HDD's.
i.e. it exports the built-in HDD as a

eSATA drive enclosure of a full PC?
HI All,
I have a dilemma and I would appreciate advice
1. Get a good size case, mobo, processor, etc and put 8 hard drives it in and RAID them. (yes an 8 port SATA mobo). Running CentOS.
or
2. Get an eSATA enclosure that has room for 8 or 10 drives and just connect it to box?
I know that RAID is not a full proof backup, but I am looking for a solution to store all of my data, projects, music,

Cheap ZFS homeserver.
So after toying around with some stuff a few months back I got bogged down and set this project aside for a while. Time to revisit. <BR><BR>
Looking around there still is not a good "these cards/motherboards" work list. the HCL is hardly ever updated, and its far more geared towards business use than hobbyist/home use. So bearing all of that in mind I will need the

USB-3.0 on C6.5 ??
Just wondering if there are any known issues with USB 3.0 storage devices
in Centos 6.5??
I just got one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817332028
it does either esata or USB 3.0. My new motherboard (ASUS M5A99X EVO
R2.0) supports both, so I've tried both (of course, can't have a feature
without at least giving it a whirl! :)). esata seems to work fine,

Any experience with eSATA and port multiplier...?
Hey,
just bought an eSATA/USB dual drive docking station and my CentOS 5 can only see one drive at a time...
Any one knows if there are specific parameters to set somewhere?
Or do I need a more recent kernel (like upgrading to CentOS 6?)
The docking is a Sharkoon Quickport Duo v2 + 2 drives + 1 eSATA cable...

External SATA drive enclosures + ZFS?
Hi all,
Space is starting to get a bit tight here, so I''m looking at adding
a couple of TB to my home server. I''m considering external USB or
FireWire attached drive enclosures. Cost is a real issue, but I also
want the data to be managed by ZFS--so enclosures without a JBOD option
have been disgarded (i.e., I don''t want to use any internal HW RAID
controllers).

HotPlug, eSATA, and /media
Ok, got a quickie.
I have an eSATA drive, a 750GB Seagate in an eSATA external enclosure, and a
Silicon Image sil3132 ExpressCard controller for my laptop. The disk and
controller work great in CentOS 5 (or F7, for that matter), if I specifically
mount it.
This is not how I want to have to use this drive, however. I want to hotplug
it; that is, plug the controller into the laptop, and then

Can you be more specific about the changes?
Key variables:
* USB controller information (old and new hardware)
* Kernel versions, for both working and non-working setups

Assign external esata drive to KVM
Hello Everyone,
I have a CentOS 6.3 host running a few KVMs. One of them is a CentOS
6.3 KVM that I want to use for making backups with BackupPC. What I'm
having a problem with is assigning the KVM an external drive.
I used to run BackupPC on an Ubuntu box. The backups went to an external
eSATA 1.5TB, ext4 format, single partition drive (regular 3.5" in an
enclosure). I want to now

NUT Quit Working
Hello.
I have had NUT working for several years on my servers. Recently I
made changes to the main server, where the UPS is local, and now upsd
won't properly load there, which essentially disables the entire UPS
shutdown system. I made a number of hardware and software changes,
including an upgrade to the latest software versions for that distro
(Debian Wheezy), although I did not

eSATA
Has anyone ever triend to hang a eSATA drive chasis off oc a centos box?
Not specifically this box, but something like this....
http://www.compsource.com/ttechnote.asp?part_no=DS1220&src=F
I have used internal SATA drives on 3ware cards before without an issue.
Didn't know if this was in the same arena.
Thanks!

libata and PMP (Port Multiplier) support in CentOS
I'm looking at buying a NORCO DS-1220 and it comes with a NORCO 4618
PCI-X card (4 port eSATA, with a port multiplier on the card or the
chassis). I've been trying to pin down whether or not CentOS will see
all 12 drives, and I haven't seen anything that is definitive. I see
that the kernel module sata_sil24 supports the SiI3124 chip on the NORCO
4618 card, but I haven't found

rsync to my external eSATA HD is crashing/freezing my system...
Hello list
I've been running the following command, first in fc20 and then now
(since the beginning of March) in fc26:
now=$(date +"%Y%m%d-%H%M"); sudo rsync -ahuAESX -vi /home/
/run/media/readlegal/Backup/home >
/run/media/readlegal/Backup/rsync-changes_$now
Since the move to fc26, this command has caused the complete
freeze/crash of the system. I tried it under multi-user

OT: headless fanless silent 2 HDs micro server/pc...
Hey,
A bit out of topic but I am looking for a micro server/pc if anyone knows a descent one...
I found many nice NAS but I would like to have full access to the OS (install CentOS, etc).
Dream one would be
- Very quiet (fanless) since it will sit in my bedroom.
- Headless
- Small.
- 2/3 HDs (2.5" are ok) for RAID1 (hardware RAID would be nice, and with BBC even more).- 1 or 2 GB NICs

CentOS 6, mini-SAS and eSATA
We've got this Dell server. In it, we've got two LSI HBAs. Mini-SAS to one
RAID box. The other, cheapo RAID box, has eSATA. We got a
mini-SAS-to-eSATA cable - actually, it's one mini-SAS to three eSATA. The
systems sees not those disks.
Will this just not work, with the HBA, or is there a driver that will let
the what, mpt2SAS driver see the eSATA drives?

Question on server speed
Hi all,
I have a customer server with 32 cores, 128G ram i7960X. So nice box...
Why is it that "all" I am really doing at the moment is copying things to
an external SSD disk USB3 connected and the machine "freezes"... Why is
that?
clearly plenty of CPU RAM everything...
I can see "blocking" to write data to the external disk - but there are 31
other cores and
