mysterious weekly shutdown
I have a Centos 5.4 machine that has, for the past two weeks, apparently been shut off over the weekend. It's just sitting there turned off on Monday morning and when someone hits the power switch it comes right back on and everything works again. This happened last weekend, and again over this past weekend. Here is /var/log/messages from shortly before it apparently shut down this weekend.

Xen guest and samba
Hello, I am new to this list, but having been using CentOS for sometime. I recently installed CentOS 5 on a test server to check out Xen. The installation was smooth had so far I have everything working except I cannot get samba to join our AD domain from the xen guest, using para-virtualization, I setup. I am out of ideas, and cannot find anyone having similar problems. I have tested my

fc6 guest x server / vnc problems
I''ve succesfully installed FC6 domU under RHEL5-beta2 dom0 with virt-manager. I could open a graphical vnc console from virt-manager with no probs and use domU''s gnome desktop. After few days of running the guest I''ve updated it with yum and been using it mostly via xm console. Now I tried to use the graphical console, but all virt-manager was telling me was: "The

X just died then restarted
Just had a weird thing happen that I've never encountered before. Running Centos 5.x (updated) on 32-bit (Athlon XP). Was going along in Firefox when suddenly my screen went black and the hard drive light came on mostly steady for several seconds. After a little bit I got back the X login screen. It normally comes up on F7, but F7 was dead (with some text I'll paste in below in case it

ntlm_auth = NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS: No logon servers (0xc000005e)
I had to downgrade samba on a rh5.5 instance due to ntlm_auth not working properly: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?format=multiple&id=561325 Now, when I add the computer to the domain ('net ads join ?U Administrator') it seems to work, is visible on the AD interface, but the logs show an error: Nov 11 16:03:22 rhclient winbindd[4483]: [2010/11/11 16:03:22, 0]

New server is not discovering USB drive attachment
Just built a Centos 5 system last night that will be a NAS server. I have a bunch of notebook drives with information I want to populate the NAS with. I am logged in as root. I plug in the USB notebook drive device and nothing. My notebook has no trouble with this device. Obliviously I missed something in the install. autofs is reported as running, so not that.

Centos 5 card reader automount
To this point, whenever I've plugged a storage device (flash drive, mp3 player) into a USB plug, it's magically mounted and I get an icon on my desktop. I've just got a card reader and it doesn't automount. I can mount it manually with "mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/temp" and that works fine. I would prefer to have it automount and give me the desktop icon. Unfortunately, I

pcscd
Anyone working with/using it? One thing that's driving me nuts is that it keeps spitting garbage into the logs (card absent or mute!!!). I just tried editing /etc/init.d/pcscd - there's *no* way to pass parms from the config file - and set the logging level to --error, and it's still doing it. Clues for the poor, to shut it up? mark

system-config-network crash
I have been trying to get a EVDO modem to work with Centos 5 and earlier this evening I used system-config-network to add it to the system. Now when I try to run system-config-network again it crashes with the following error. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this? CentOS 6, firefox, PIV cards
Hi, folks, Up until a few weeks ago, it worked as it has been for years: firefox, security device is libcoolkey, and pcscd. Today, I go to use it (I have done updates sine I last used it), and try preferences->advanced->certificates, and it hangs. My most recent try was for over 20 min. If you move something over the window, then move it away, it's a blank window. Pull out the

smart card auth
I updated my work desktop to kernel-3.10.0-1062.4.1.el7.x86_64 yesterday as I was leaving. This morning booted into that new kernel I was unable to login using my common access card.? Rebooted in the previous kernel (3.10.0-1062.1.2.el7.x86_64) and smart card login works fine. Anyone else seeing any similar problems?? I haven't had time to dig deeply into the logs yet but I did a bunch of

6.3: service not starting?
Before I roll it out to users for their workstations, I updated my own system to 6.3, just did an update a few minutes ago, then rebooted. Came up... but when I went to use my PIV card for credentials to certain other machines, it didn't read the card. I found that pcscd was not running - when I did a service restart, it said "failed" on shutdown, then ok on startup. chkconfig --list
