combining kickstart and DVD on a USB thumbdrive
Hi all, I am trying to find information on taking a DVD of centos 5.2 x86_64 and putting it AND my kickstart file on a USB8G thumbdrive. Note - I am not INSTALLING linux on the USB disk just trying to make installation media for it. I am not taking just the bootdisk.img file to make the USB bootable but the entire DVD content on the USB and my kickstart files. I'd like to just be able to

install from USB thumdrive
Hi all Is there a procedure to use an 8GIG thumbdrive to copy the centos 5.2 dvd contents to the thumbdrive then run isolinux (or something like it) and be able to use the thumbdrive as the install media? Seems like it should work, however my machine only has syslinux not isolinux. yum provides isolinux does not return anything. Anyway I was trying to get to a point where I can just stick a

Kickstart problem.
I am trying to use kickstart for automated builds from a DVD. Some of the machines have DVD's drives and some have CDRom drives only. With the CDRom only machines I would like to plug in an external DVD drive via USB and use this to kickstart. The DVD only machines work correctly with a isolinux.cfg as label test kernel vmlinuz append initrd=initrd.img ramdisk_size=8192

CentOS 5 & USB Kickstart?
Is anybody else having problems with CentOS 5 not loading the usb drivers for kickstart installations? I'm passing "linux ks=hd:sdb1:/ks.cfg," but I get a message saying it can't find the ks.cfg file and I should enter another path. I use the exact same boot options with CentOS 4 without any problems. What am I missing with CentOS 5? Thanks for any tips. -- Jiann-Ming Su

Making custom USB install media
Almost. I've read that, and I can get it to work. I guess I could phrase my question as "Given that the default image for 6.6 and 7.0 do this, how do I make custom media that does it to?" When I make custom media, it only works off an actual DVD. I need help making custom media that has that USB/EFI magic in it.

Kickstart from FTP or USB
Hey Everyone, I was wondering if anyone has managed to do a network install where the kickstart file is located either on an FTP site (which is also where the packages are stored) or on a USB flash drive. I've tried starting the installer with "linux ks=/dev/sda/ks.cfg" or "linux ks=/dev/sda1/ks.cfg" or "linux ks=ftp://what.ever.Ip.address/pub/ks.cfg" but

kickstart from cd
Howdy, Was wondering if anyone on the list has successfully created a kickstart cd. I get the thing burnt, looks good, I can browse all the files, but when I actually boot from it I can't get it to admit the ks.cfg exists. I *have* been successful with kickstart over http; just can't seem to make it happen from the cd. Pointers appreciated, I've been mostly looking at the

kickstart install using url location
Hi, I am working on a kickstart install method and it works fine with cdrom as installation media. I would like change this media to an online resource. I saw option as - 'url --url http://<server>/<dir>'. I am not sure what should be the directory contents? Should we put all ISOs in that directory or what? Any insights? Thanks, CS.

unattended install via nfs
Hello, Does anyone have a guide for setting up an nfs server for unattended deployment of centos5? Basically what i want to do is boot a system from CD media, pass a boot parameter nfs, and ks= options then walk away, the box goes out to the nfs server, finds the kickstart file, reads, and does it. I've got several machines and i'd rather not do manual installs. Thanks. Dave.
