Server hangs after installing KVM
Hi,
I just received a Supermicro server back from factory repair.
Installed CentOS 6.3 x86_64 fresh from DVD (tried with 6.4, same
result). Everything goes fine until i install Virtualization* yum
groups. Virtualization is enabled in BIOS. Server boots, CentOS loads
and i have even a login prompt. If i'm fast enough to enter login name
and password, shell works for about 10 sec.

tzdata, Greenwich zone: URGENT!
Hi!
It appears that there have been some changes to tzdata recently. We
run an application that needs the server to stay at GMT. Previously, we
used the Casablanca timezone but now there seems to be a 1 hour
difference to GMT. I checked the London zone and they seem to change
time too.
I tried to change the zone to GMT with system-config-date (i'm using
command line remotely) but

Missing dependencies
Hi!
I have a new shiny CentOS 5.2 server freshly installed. I wanted to
install VMWare Server but the installer wants to compile a module.
I thought, no problem: Let's install compiler and libraries. So i did:
yum groupinstall "Development Libraries" "Development Tools"
But i end up with:

CentOS 5.6 - Samba server + Windows error 233
Hi!
I have upgraded my servers yesterday to CentOS 5.6 via yum update.
Everything went smoothly except that i have client workstations not part
of the domain that are not able to access the samba server anymore. The
samba server is part of the domain. We recently added Windows 2008 R2
DC. Everything was working smoothly until the CentOS update.
I had a Win7 Workstation that i

Programming ressources
Hi!
It may be a little OT but i'm searching for a c/c++ programmer for the
development of a remote controlled multimedia player that would run
under CentOS with Aja OEM card. We'd use this player in our fully
automatic TV broadcast system.
We currently have a player (developed in house) that works mostly ok on
Winblows but it lacks many features like remote monitoring (SNMP or

Sluggish server with big array
Hi!
I am experiencing strange behavior with my new CentOS 6.3
installation (system up to date). I have a big 11 TB EXT4 array mounted
on /home/data. The server is a Tyan 2U (TA26-B3992-E) with Dual Opteron
2216, one cpu has 4 Gigs RAM and the other has 8 Gigs (so 12 Gigs
total). The server uses 8 x Seagate 2TB SAS hard disks (7200 RPM) and
all the disks are grouped together to form 1

FTPS setup problem
Hi!
I'm trying to figure out what's going wrong with a "simple" FTPS setup
and VSFTPD.
I saw references on Google and tried, and tried, and tried... without
success.
I'll start by explaining my situation: I have a WEB development server
behind a firewall. It's currently only for the intranet. We now have
an external company that will have to do a new website

filename_convert_internal: checkname failed NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER
Dear All
I have a PCBSD machine with /media shared using samba.
Any microsoft clients can successfully connect to /media and browse directories I have created there.
When I plug in a usb device, I mount it into /media eg: one labelled "PENDRIVE" becomes /media/PENDRIVE
Some clients can successfully read /media/PENDRIVE, others cannot. Although the clients that cannot view the

Automount of USB drives
Hi,
I am using 5.1, Until yesterday morning when we had a power cut
for 9 hours [no proper UPS], the automount of USB drives worked
properly.
Now when I connect any USB drive [hard drives & USB sticks], they
show up in dmesg, and they are being properly recognized, but I
have to mount them by hand.
Any suggestion?

Samba, ADS & Winbind Separator on CentOS 5.4
Hi!
I have a little problem with Samba. I have an ADS integrated CentOS
5.4 server. I had frequent access problem when M$ users create
directories and files. So i thought to force users' persmissions by way
of the "force user" parameter in smb.conf.
First problem is that the forced users i want to apply are ADS users
and named like "MYDOMAIN#Joe" in passwd

Centos 5 card reader automount
To this point, whenever I've plugged a storage device (flash drive, mp3 player)
into a USB plug, it's magically mounted and I get an icon on my desktop.
I've just got a card reader and it doesn't automount. I can mount it
manually with "mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/temp" and that works fine.
I would prefer to have it automount and give me the desktop icon.
Unfortunately, I

Coping music from tapes
OS: CentOS 5.0 x86.
Hi, I have some old music tapes and a walkman, and want to move the
music to mp3 format. So far I am thinking to use Audacity to record the
music to wavs, and then do not know, somehow I will compress the wavs to
mp3s as vbr 192 Kbps with something.
Has anyone done this? What app did you use for recording the music from
the tapes and what app did you use to make it mp3?

USB bootable (using syslinux)
Hello!
I just started using Linux and I like the possibilities it offers.
I'm using Suse Linux (no MS Windows installed at all).
I also discovered that syslinux is capable of making a USB pendrive bootable (with graphic menus).
This is very nice.
Since I'm a Windows user (up until now), I have some questions:
1 - I already downloaded syslinux 3.82
How do I install it on my pen drive
