segfaults with 8 gig of ram
Hello All. I have five Centos 4.4 x86_64 (amd fx-62) boxes with 4 gig of Corsair dual channel ram running kernel 2.6.9-42.0.10.EL (smp). The sixth box is the same except for video card and ram. It is using 8gig of GSkill dual channel ram and has a very cheap ATI video card in it. This box will segfault on boot unless I use noapic acpi=off and nolapic. Even with these boot params, the box is not

unable to boot centos 5 on dell optiplex 320
Hello All. I have a dell optiplex 320 that I can install centos5 on using pci=nomsi. That seems to be the only way. After the install grub loads but thats about as far as it gets. It looks like a BIOS bug to me, but I just don't know. I left it sit for a few minutes and it just had the echoed boot params on the screen. I've tried booting with noapic nolapic apm=off acpi=off and noprobe

openmotif-devel 32 bit libs on x86_64
Hello All. I'm trying to compile some oracle stuff on Centos 4.4 x86_64 and I think I need 32-bit motif devels (getting some errors about incompatible libraries) Anyone know where I can get those? Found a lot of 32-bit SuSE stuff on google, but CentOS must call them something different? Thanks, Thomas -- Flambeau Inc. Technology Center - Baraboo, WI Email : tblader at flambeau.com

2.6 memory management question
Hello all. I have a centos 4.4 box (2.6.9-42.0.10.ELsmp) with 7gig of ram that doesn't seem to be using swap (also 7gig now). I say "seem" because I've noticed ram utilization run around 95% (with oracle and friends running) and then firing up a couple apps to use that last 5% will stop the machine dead in it's tracks. I ran across some reading[0] about

Multiple Services on one Server
Newbie question! We currently are running a product call TAS from Syntax Corporation and would like to move to Samba. I have review the documentation and cannot find how to set up muliple services on one server. I tried using the Netbios name = and the include statement to bring in another smb.conf file but I don't think I'm on the right track.

Retraction: Protocol stacking: gluster over NFS
Hi All, Well, it <http://goo.gl/hzxyw> was too good to be true. Under extreme, extended IO on a 48core node, some part of the the NFS stack collapses and leads to an IO lockup thru NFS. We've replicated it on 48core and 64 core nodes, but don't know yet whether it acts similarly on lower-core-count nodes. Tho I haven't had time to figure out exactly /how/ it collapses, I

Below are some compile times for 2.6.20 on an fx-62 running Centos64 with various 2 gig sticks of dual channel ram (See previous posts with subject of 'segfaults with 8gig of ram' for more details.) It seems dual channel will compile a kernel faster, but only gained around 30 seconds over 20 minutes. Below are the shortest/longest compile times of several compiles done over the

Samba on Debian with shares on nfs-filesystem
Hello, Actually I have some troubels concerning samba (3.0.24) on debian (4.0): I would like to have some samba-shares on a nfs-filesystem. NFS works fine for the Linux clients and the Linux server. The nfs filesystem is mounted from an other server on /home. The next step is to set up samba to have some shares on the nfs Filesystem (/home/$LOGIN, anonymized configuration attached).

NFS, acls, proto, and "kernel: svc: unknown version"
Hi all, 1) My NFS3 clients don't display or obey existing non-POSIX ACLs on files of NFS3-mounted exports. 2) setfacl on the client throws error and fails : # setfacl -m u:stowler:rw testfile.text setfacl: testfile.text: Operation not supported 3) at time of client mount the server's /var/log/messages shows "kernel: svc: unknown version (3)". Any thoughts greatly
