Windows XP fixmbr from Centos?
I am still dead on my corporate system, and the XP boot CD I brought won't boot. And so far I have not found anyone here at the IETF meeting that happens to have one in their bag of tricks... So I found instructions on doing this in Ubuntu: http://www.arsgeek.com/2008/01/15/how-to-fix-your-windows-mbr-with-an-ubuntu-livecd/ I have my Centos install CD 1 of 6 that gets me into rescue.

Questions on custom LiveCD
I tried making my own LiveCD according to the instructions on the project site. First, applause, the basic procedure works like a charm. It's really easy to do and works right from the beginning (I'm building it inside a VM). I tried the minimal and the desktop version (with a few changes). I have encountered a few problems and have some questions. The German keyboard I set in the

Quation about CentOS 4 xenU kernel
I converted a physical maschine running CentOS 4.6 to a Xen VM on a CentOS 5 host. Almost everything was running when I decided to rsync /lib and /usr a while later in order to get updated files and get the one or two non-working programs to work. There are differences because of the xenU kernel I didn't think about. I forgot to exclude rpm database and /lib/modules. Because the synced

DHCP for Xen VMs
I created my first Xen VM that didn't use a static IP address. It grabs an IP from the 198.168.122.0 subnet (from I don't know where). I would rather want it to use my DHCP server. How can I achieve this? Kai -- Kai Sch?tzl, Berlin, Germany Get your web at Conactive Internet Services: http://www.conactive.com

Winamp 0% Buffering mp3 streams
I'm new to streaming or music hearing over the wire, I still prefer my old-fashioned stereo equipment :-) But a friend asked me to setup a shoutcast server for him, so I went out and installed it, played a bit with it and didn't like it. So I looked for an open source alternative and found Icecast. Installed fine, works fine. But there is one thing which puzzles me and I hope someone

Dovecot 1.0.something rpm for CentOS?
Is anyone using successfully a specific rpm of Dovecot 1.0.something? There's nothing on dag and a few on rpmfind (for Fedora Core), but I don't know if they'd work. The one coming with Centos 4 (0.99.11) has quite a few bugs and I'd like to put an upgrade on top of it. Reassemble software RAID
I have a machine on CentOS 5 with two disks in RAID1 using Linux software RAID. /dev/md0 is a small boot partition, /dev/md1 spans the rest of the disk(s). /dev/md1 is managed by LVM and holds the system partition and several other partitions. I had to take out disk sda from the RAID and low level format it with the tool provided by Samsung. Now I put it back and want to reassemble the array.

We are serving the mp3s with .nsv endings since that is what the oddcast plugin seems to send by default when mp3 is

Dell Poweredge R300
Hi all, Just found out that the Poweredge R300 cant even load the CentOS 5.2 64bit installer. Had to revert to Ubuntu. Seems its a driver problem. Pity, but does this kind of case apply to many other servers? --- OSCC MAMPU MyMeeting Version 2.0 Release http://knowledge.oscc.org.my/solution-areas/application/mymeeting

administering an MS Windows partition under Linux
Hi all, If I have a dual-boot machine (Linux and Windows) would I have any good tools under Linux that would allow me to look at the content of the Windows boot partition, administer it, clean up the registry, remove viruses if any, etc? The Windows installation seems to be so defective as to be quite useless so I am trying to think of a good strategy for dealing with the situation. Thanks in

php on command line problems
The installed php on CentOS/RHEL is the CGI version. This means I should be able to get command line arguments with $GLOBALS[''argv''] or $_SERVER[''argv'']. That''s how the php documentation tells and how it works f.i. on Suse. However, on CentOS I get them only when I use the -n switch to php (no php.ini). The problem with -n is that php cannot find

Windows Media Player
I'm having a problem with WMP and icecast 2.2.0. When people try to connect it buffers the feed really slow and people never go get audio. I've tried connecting over the LAN and it does the same thing. Open http:/scanner.weatherserver.net/live in media player and you will see what I am talking about. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Weather @

Yum Issue.. Installing Older Package Version
Hello fellow CentOS'ers- I'm trying to install a package from a not-to-be-named repository (privately operated for some proprietary software). They currently have a package I need but offer multiple versions. However, if I simply 'yum install packagename' it defaults to pulling down the most recent package. I would like to pull down the older version of the package but I'm

Upgrading PHP + MySQL on CentOS 3
Hi, I have a CentOS 3 server that I need to update to MySQL 5 + PHP4. I downloaded and installed the MySQL client and server RPM packages for Red Hat 3, including the Shared Compatibility Libraries which provide /usr/lib/libmysqlclient.so.10, .12, .14 and .15, which seems to be the recommended way of upgrading a MySQL 3 installation. I then went on to recompile PHP 4.4.7, which worked

Cannot start sm-client on CentOS
Starting up sendmail I get: Starting sm-client: can not chdir(/var/spool/clientmqueue/): Permission denied Program mode requires special privileges, e.g., root or TrustedUser. I assume the user used for sm-client is smmsp. However, that user has /var/spool/mqueue as homedir and I added him to the trusted users list. FYI, that user has disabled login (which should be okay) and the group has a

Somewhat OT:
Hi, I'm looking for a monitoring system that support snmp v3. I want to monitorize linux servers and network switches. Currently, I am trying to use zabbix, but sadly, it lack at present features that I need. Help on deleting partitions
Hi, I have this dual boot Vista-CentOS. I have one NTFS for Vista, and three for CentOS. I boot to both OS through grub. Unfortunately, I'm going to need the CentOS space for Vista :( :( :( So my question is: if I remove the CentOS partitions *from within Vista* with its tool for it, will I be able to still boot Vista ? Is grub going to disappear ? If so, will Vista replace it for its
