Read only nfsroot and diskless booting CentOS 6?
Does anyone have any good how-to's or documentation on setting up read only root NFS for pxe booting diskless computers? A few months ago I stumbled upon an official Redhat doc through a google search(not hosted by redhat and I cannot find it anywhere on the Redhat site) written by Dave Kline named "Configuring diskless clients with Red Hat Enterprise Linux" from 2011. It seemed to

centos Installation on Multiple machines
Hi, I want to install customized centos on multiple systems. Can PXE boot do that ? Apart from this is there any other way of doing image copy of centos OS and installing it on several client machines through network. I used clonezilla, but after image cloning, i will again have to use the clonezilla LIVE CD on client machine to do a image restore. I want to make a clone of centos OS and

[OT] PXE Boot / image server for non-profit's computers
This is the best collection of minds I can think of on this topic, that's why it is on this list. I think it is too subjective for stackoverflow. So here is the problem: The community center has multiple computers for the children (and adult students) to use. These computer are always donated and the hardware is all different. Currently the systems are running Windows (but this may change).

booting clonezilla *.iso via PXE fails
Hallo, I'm just trying to boot a Clonezilla *.iso (live-20100521-lucid) via PXE; Label clonezilla kernel memdisk append iso raw initrd iso/clonezilla.iso The first step is ok - I see the boot menu of the *.iso. When I choose "Clonezilla live" the system fails with Isolinux: Disk error 02, AX = 4224, drive E0 when I choose "freedos" it fails with

clonezilla and xen problem.
In the past I have used clonzilla under xen to backup windows domains. I just tried it and it will not work. this is xen 4.1.2 and clonzilla-live 1.2.10-14 the disk line is: disk = [ ''phy:/dev/xvg0/nfdlts-c,hda,w'', ''file:/extra/isoimages/clonzilla.iso,hdc:cdrom,r'' ] It boots cd OK. The problem is devices are xvda not hda and clonzilla is not happy with

Acronis True Image or Clonezilla
I want to clone a small (80GB) disk on my CentOS server to a large (1.5TB) disk, as smart has been giving me warnings of unreadable sectors. Both disks are Western Digital, and WD has a WD version of Acronis True Image. I'm not sure whether to use this or Clonezilla. My worry with Acronis is that I want to keep the original disk, and I'm not sure from the documentation if True Image

clonezilla
The clonezilla live project is a really nice way to do image-copies of machines: http://clonezilla.sourceforge.net/clonezilla-live/ but it's based on a Debian live OS which has some unfamiliar quirks. Has anyone built something like this on a Centos base? For anyone who hasn't seen it, it can do whole disk or partition copies of windows and most Linux filesystems and it knows enough to

How to copy a system?
Is there a standard way of copying a working system from one machine to another with different partitions? I have two CentOS-5.6 machines, say A and B, and I thought I would copy / on sdb10 on machine A to an unused partition sda7 on machine B with rsync. I made the appropriate changes to /etc/fstab and grub.conf , as well as /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts , but found that there were innumerable

Question about dd (fill a hard disks' unused space with blanks)
Hi, I'm currently experimenting with G4U (Ghost for Unix), a small cloning application sending disk images to an FTP server. The application reads the whole disk bit by bit, compresses it and then stores it remotely. Due to this approach, it's more or less filesystem-independent. The drawback is that it sometimes results in huge image files. Now I'm currently following a hint

** Newbie - HELP **
Using VM's was a suggestion I put forward but some of our staff didn't like the idea! We can't virtualise Windows as we run many CAD and Media app's that require high end graphics card utilisation. The Linux image is mainly used for coding type activities and so virtualising that would seem sensible - unfortunately that is not my call.. Regards Darren Williams -----Original

Mass installs of desktop systems on identical machines
Hi, I'm running a small Linux consulting business here in a group of small villages in the South of France (http://www.microlinux.fr). I'm using CentOS for everything, servers as well as desktops. The desktop installs are usually highly customized. My approach is to list the client's needs, find the corresponding applications and then install these, to avoid the bloat and

Three Identical systems - short cut to setting up the drives?
I am building three identical systems. Well they will have different host names, and with time the software setups will drift. But at install time they are identical. Is there some way, (with dd I might guess) to do a hardare level copy? All three drives are Hitachi DK23DA-40F (40Gb). Supposedly factory reconditioned (they are in sealed bags with a drive sticker stating: "Refurbished

best practice: how to setup a central "network installation server"?
Hi, I want to setup a central installation server, but haven't done this before, so I want to find out what would be best practices for this? The server I have already runs as a central repo, which is updated from one or our local centos mirrors, and the other CentOS servers (both i386 & x64), as well as CentOS VPS's get their updates from this server. But, now I want to allow a

pxelinux efi64 boot woes on hyper-v gen 2
Gene, As it happened I started working on this again just as you mailed me. It appears that PXE-E99 may also be related to MTFTP part of the PXE spec. IBM also says it has something to do with jumbo frames. I tried setting PXE.mtcp-ip to 0.0.0.0 to disable it but still no joy. The bootfile size shows up as zero because that relates to "option boot-size" in dhcp and doesn't seem to
