unable to boot centos 5 on dell optiplex 320
Hello All. I have a dell optiplex 320 that I can install centos5 on using pci=nomsi. That seems to be the only way. After the install grub loads but thats about as far as it gets. It looks like a BIOS bug to me, but I just don't know. I left it sit for a few minutes and it just had the echoed boot params on the screen. I've tried booting with noapic nolapic apm=off acpi=off and noprobe

R1000 Driver for RTL8110SC NIC on Biostar I945G-M7
Executive Summary: Realtek has an r1000 driver for the rtl8110sc NIC at http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads I've posted this in the forums but it looks like all the action for CentOS really happens here on the mailing list. Plus I hope this might help some other lost soul since google failed to connect this motherboard to *any* mention of the r1000. I thought I found a great little

OT: (a) Biostar or MSI mainboard? (b) all Celeron CPU's OK?
(a) Mark (mhr) suggested I buy a bare bones box, when I reported the problem with the mainboard in this Dell Dimension 2400 box. Possibly I can have the mainboard repaired (and the PSU, if it is also having problems), and if so, I will give this one to my Stepson and go the bare bones box route and have a more powerful box for myself. I looked at two (2) very low end Desktop mainboards in the

Boot problem with Debian Squeeza and Xen
Hi all, I just upgraded my Debian/Etch with Xen3.3 machine to Debian/Squeeze Xen4.0 and now have problems with starting the Dom0 kernel. I always get the error message: Kernel panic not syncing: the kernel parameter noapic is incompatible with xen. My grub.cfg is: menuentry ''Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-5-xen-686 and XEN 4.0-i386'' --cl$ insmod part_msdos

Boot/init problem with IBM Netfinity 4500
I hope the CentOS people don't mind me cross-posting for their input. I've just done a clean, text-mode minimal WBEL4 install on an IBM Netfinity 4500, essentially the same hardware as an xSeries 340. The install went fine but now the box will boot, run through the initrd init sequence, perform its switchroot then hang here... SELinux: Initializing. SELinux: Starting in permissive mode

Fast clock under VMWare
Hi everyone, I have been struggling with having the clock of Linux VM's (including CentOS 4.6 and 5.1) running very fast under VMWare, no matter what I have tried. My platform: - AMD Turion X2 TL-60 - AMD 690 chipset with integrated Radeon x1250 (probably doesn't concern in this case) - Windows Vista Ultimate x64, all Windows Update patches loaded (no SP1 yet) - 4GB RAM - VMWare

[PATCH] efi: leaving long mode in kernel_jump routine
Actually your Syslinux config is less relevant than the kernel config file. Indeed Syslinux infers the method to use from the kernel image itself. I assume the .config is public. I will take a look as soon as I can Thomas Le 04/08/2015 14:09, intrigeri via Syslinux a ?crit : > Thomas Letan via Syslinux wrote (04 Aug 2015 09:27:38 GMT) : >> Are you using EFI Handover Protocol? >

CentOS 6.4 kernel panic on boot after upgrading kernel to 2.6.32-431.29.2
I'm on a Supermicro server, X9DA7 motherboard, Intel C602 chipset, 2x 2.4GHz Intel Xeon E5-2665 8-core CPU, 96GB RAM, and I'm running CentOS 6.4. I just tried to use yum to upgrade the kernel from 2.6.32-358 to 2.6.32-431.29.2. However, I get a kernel panic on boot. The first kernel panic I got included stuff about acpi, so I tried adding noacpi noapic to the kernel boot parameters,

Kernel panic kickstarting to CentOS 4
I have an older server I am trying to update to CentOS 4.3 but I can't get to the installer screen because the machine kernel panics when booted from the install CD. The error message I get is: Kernel panic - not syncing: include/linux/smp_lock.h:25 spin_unlock(kernel/sched.c:c035) not locked The boot messages before this point are mainly to do with acpi including: acpi_ps_parse_anl

Slow clock on CentOS 4.4 in a VMware VM
I'm running a CentOS 4.4 VM on a Windows XP host with VMware Server, and have the problem that my clock runs too slow (it happens in VMware Workstation as well). It loses between 30 and 45 seconds every minute! This is a known problem and can be fixed by adding "nosmp noapic nolapic" to the boot command according to VMware tech note ID 1420. However, despite adding these

HVM questions: Max disk size?, Version?, APIC ..etc?
Hello, Is there a known issue using hard drives or images larger than approximately 20 to 100 GB? I''m running xen0-3.0.1-4 package from FC5 I have one HVM machine that uses a 20 GB disk and it works great, but the identical machine except with 100 GB disk gets ext3 kernel errors (didn''t write it down but pretty serious stuff because it basically destroys it''s
