Hibernating a laptop with the power button (Thinkpax X31) under CentOS 5.4
I am having a weird problem trying to get hibernation to work when I
press the power button on my Thinkpad X31 under CentOS 5.4.
I've modified /etc/acpi/events/power.conf to contain:
# ACPID config to power down machine if powerbutton is pressed, but only if
# no gnome-power-manager is running
event=button/power.*
action=/bin/ps awwux | /bin/grep gnome-power-manager | /bin/grep -qv grep ||

Bug#450660: logcheck: acpid rules do not filter enough
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.63
Severity: minor
Tags: patch
Hi,
There was recently a modification to filter acpid stuffs.
But there are still things not filtered by logcheck.
When I unplugg, then plug back my battery, I get following notifications:

Suspend and/or Hibernate
I asked about ACPI several weeks ago but received no responses. Are
suspend and hibernate features not supported in CentOS yet? I noticed
there is a daemon for acpi:
[scarolan at kalki ~]$ chkconfig --list | grep acpi
acpid 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
But how do I use this feature? Normally I'm accustomed to this being
a menu option when I log out (eg,

Bug#569843: logcheck-database: acpid filter misses trailing white space
Package: logcheck-database
Version: 1.2.69
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
The syslog messages for acpid when a window client connects
or disconnect all have a trailing single space at each line.
Therefore the existing two patterns in
  /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/acpid
fail to filter out the events. Furthermore, the disconnect
message includes a PID-numbered client, which is not present

advice on removing these daemons from server - rpc.statd rpc.idmapd acpid
greetings,
is there any reason i would want any of these daemons active in memory on a
simple DNS server if i do not use NFS and... of course, the unit is not
being used as a workstation.

Installing on partitionable RAID arrays
Hello
Since linux 2.6, the md layer has a feature called partitionable arrays. So instead of having two disks, creating an identical partition table on both and then putting those partitions in RAID 1, you take those two disks and put them in one partitionable RAID 1 array (in mdadm terms, "mdp") and create a partition table on the new RAID device. The advantages are quite clear
