how do I access an LV on a xen dom0?
Hi, I have a machine running several domU's. It has an LV that is currently mounted on dom0, that I would like to access from one of the domU's. If I umount the LV and remove it from the fstab on the dom0, is there a way I can mount it in one of the domU's? If there is a doc that describes how to do this, a pointer would be appreciated. I have tried google but so far no joy.

self signed ssl cert on C5
Hi, Does anyone have a pointer to correct documantation for generating and installing a self signed ssl cert for use on httpd on a C-5 machine? The docs say to use genkey but AFAIK upstream rm'd crypto-utils from the distro and as such it is not available. I tried generating the cert on a C-4 machine using genkey and installing on the C-5 machine but I get the following error when I try to

wbinfo problem
Hi all, I am trying to setup a samba pdc using the "making users happy" example from Samba-by-Example. Everything seems to check out fine except that I cannot get wbinfo -u to work. When I do wbinfo -g I get a list of the groups. If I do wbinfo -u I get the following: (pocono pts4) # wbinfo -u Error looking up domain users (pocono pts4) # I tried turning up the logging for samba but

hardware raid vs fake raid
Hi, Does anyone know how I can find out if an ibm serveraid 8k sas storage controller (zero channel RAID) is a real hardware RAID controller and supported in the standard CentOs kernel or is it a fake raid controller. I am trying to decide if I should get the serveraid controller or go get a 3ware controller. Regards, -- Tom Diehl tdiehl at rogueind.com Spamtrap address mtd123 at

centos and apache DOS question
Hi, I have a centos 4.4 box running Apache serving up web pages. One of my customers has a marketing firm that once a week pulls all of the content so that they can do their thing. When they do this the box stops serving web pages. The load goes to 0.0 and top shows almost no memory free. The box does not swap nor do I get OOM to kick in. Normally the box has about 20-30 httpd processes running

Quota question.
Hi, I am trying to get quota working properly on dovecot 1.2.3 with postfix admin, amavisd-new, mysql, and postfix. So far I can see the db getting updated when messages are added and deleted from the mailbox. The problem I am having is that I have imported a bunch of messages from the old mail server that was running uw-imap and mbox to the doevcot machine using maildir++. As a result the

CentOS 4.4 on mini-itx
Hi, I have a EPIA mini-itx board that I have been running Fedora 4 on. I want to install CentOS 4.4 on it since FC4 is no longer supported. The install goes fine but when I reboot the machine after the install I get errors like the following: hda:<4>hda: dma_timer_Expiry : dma status == 0x21 There are other errors about not being able to access the disk and eventually the kernel panics.

Centos-release srpm
Hi, Does anyone know where I can get centos-release-5-4.el5.centos.1.src.rpm? I have looked on several mirrors and that one seems to be MIA. Even Google does not seem to know where it is. I need it so I can rebuild it with my local yum repos in it. Regards, -- Tom Diehl tdiehl at rogueind.com Spamtrap address mtd123 at rogueind.com

SSl Certificate problem
Hi, I have a c4 server that I am trying to migrate an ssl site over to a new C5 machine with all of the updates. The certificate is an equifax cert and works as advertised on the C4 server. When I move it over to the C5 machine I get error in firefox that says error code -12227 which http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/ref/ssl/sslerr.html says is an

Network issue after new kernel install
Hello CentOS list, On all of my CentOS 5 VMWare ESX3 virtual machines (about 15), after installing a new kernel and rebooting the machine, the Network script tries to run dhclient and can't determine the IP info (since I don't run a dhcpd server... it's a static IP only lan). This also backs up my ifcfg-eth0 file to ifcfg-eth0.bak and writes a new ifcfg-eth0 that has dhcpd with

CentOS 5.0 ifcfg-eth0 gets renamed on boot
Hello, I created a CentOS 5.0 x86_64 guest under Debian Etch with Xen 3.0.3 and it boots fine except for one re-occuring problem - whenever it boots the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 script gets renamed to .bak and doesn''t configure the ethernet device. Here is the content of this file: TYPE=Ethernet DEVICE=eth0 BOOTPROTO=static ONBOOT=yes IPADDR=192.168.0.247

Why Kudzu, Why?
So I have a CentOS 5 machine, which I recently did a 'yum update' on. Everything went fine, but I rebooted as a precaution (just to confront any problems which might arise the first time after an update). And sure enough, when the machine came back up, the network didn't work. Luckilly, someone said (and I quote) 'mv /etc/sysconfig/networking-scripts/ifcfg-eth0.bak

Dovecot 1.2.5 segfaults.
Hi, I just updated to dovecot 1.2.5 on centos5. 1.2.4 did not show this problem. I am going to roll back for the time being but I am willing to do whatever I need to to fix this. This is an x86_64 system. filesystem is ext3. I am now seeing the following in the logs: Sep 22 17:31:06 vfoggy kernel: imap[18644]: segfault at 0000000000000000 rip 0000000000000000 rsp 00007fff83e31c88 error 14 Sep

Dovecot stops talking to the auth server.
Hi, I have an RHEL4 machine running dovecot-1.0.3 + postfix-2.3.2 + postfixadmin + mysql-4.1.20-2.RHEL4.1 + amavisd-new-2.5.2-1. The machine only has a gig of memory in it, I am trying to keep it running until I get new hardware to replace it in a couple of weeks. For the most part it works as advertised but every once in a while it stops talking to the auth server. I think I have tracked this

Routing/NAT question
Hi all, I have a strange setup I am trying to get working. Initally I thought I could set it up by just setting up the correct routes. However after thinking about it I have convinced myself (maybe incorrectly) that I most likely need some sort of advanced NAT/routing setup. Below is a description of the networks involved: Local net (192.168.101.0/24) | | Linux machine eth1

MAC address changes after cloning
Hi, I have x86 system and have used clonezilla to clone the entire hardisk of system A and restored it on another x86 system, system B. After the cloning process, i notice that the MAC address of the system B in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 is changed and is having the MAC address of system A. The interesting part is that if i do an ifconfig from the bash prompt, the MAC

Is there a way to save the routing table permanently?
I'm adding the default gateway to the route through "route add default gw 10.10.10.10" which is also shown in "route -n" but the problem is that as soon as I restart the network through /etc/init.d/network restart; the route sets to default one...! SO, my question is there any way to save the modified route permanently by hardcoding the changes? Thanks. -------------- next

VT-x or AMD-V capable machines
Does anyone know how to tell if a machine is VT-x or AMD-V capable before I buy it? I have read some mailing list stuff that even if the processor is capable, sometimes it is disabled in the BIOS, with no way to enable it. I think HP was/is doing this. Can anyone shed some light on the current situation wrt this? Regards, -- Tom Diehl tdiehl at rogueind.com Spamtrap address mtd123 at

Resize iscsi partitions?
Hi, I have a c5 machine with a 3ware controller in it that I am using for iscsi targets. The iscsi target is built on lvm. The client then sees it as /dev/sdb1. If I put a gpt partition on it and try to shrink it I loose the partition table. If I expand it gparted complains with the following warning: "Not all of the space available to /dev/sda appears to be used, you can fix the GPT to use

NTLM auth fails after upgrade to centos 5.6
Hi, I upgraded a working centos5.5 with squid using ntlm auth to centos 5.6 today. After doing so squid failed to authenticate. Downgrading samba3x to samba3x-3.3.8-0.52.el5_5.2 got things working again. In the squid config I have, auth_param ntlm program /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-ntlmssp in the squid config and this was working until the upgrade. testparm shows no errors
