Samba/OpenLDAP reliability issue: backend experience needed
Hi
this is more of an OpenLDAP issue, but since it is mostly used with Samba,
some experience would be helpful.
We have a SLES9 PDC, running samba-3.0.14a, openldap 2.2.6
Sometimes, the OpenLDAP gets corrupted, no ideas why. It's a bad thing.
We have 100+ computers, 300+ users, which shall get 350 computers and 800
users.
What would you suggest in order to be reliable ? Reliability is

Recover rpm DB corrupted by disk failure?
Over the weekend my workstation (still on CentOS 3) started showing
SMART errors, so we shut it down and moved everything onto a new
drive. On reboot, the RPM database reports as corrupted and "rpm
--rebuilddb" segmentation faults.
Is there any reasonable way to recover from this, short of a complete
reinstall? The machine is otherwise up though it''s quite likely some

Openldap for PDC
I have been testing with openldap_2.2.13-2 and have experience on 2
occasions lockups where the ldap server does not respond (slapcat will
just hang). I have upgraded to openldap_2.2.13-4.
Is there a recommended version of openldap for SambaPDC?
Does anyone have a system in production using openldap_2.2.13-2 or
openldap_2.2.13-4?
I'm currently using samba3-20b any recommendations for a

Samba LDAP PDC BDC quit working
We have had a Samba LDAP-PDC-BDC system setup for close to 3 months with
about 60 computers in the domain. Earlier we had a power outage and
about 30 computers no longer were able to log into the domain or
authenticate. Some were NT Workstations and some were W2k. But not all
NT or W2K workstations were affected.
If we went to network neighborhood we would see the error message

Hello,
I've a Debian 3.1 box with Samba 3.0.9 acting as a PDC with OpenLDAP

The problem is this:
Yesterday suddenly a user from a workstation already joined to the
domain could not log on any more.
The log message was:

Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
Dear Team,
The OpenLDAP stuff on this page:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html
is not the preferred backend, i.e. ldbm, it really, really needs to be bdb.
See:
http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=bdb%20ldbm&file=1085
"ldbm uses a neutral storage interface which in principle could wrap dbm,
ndbm, gdbm or sleepycat as underlying storage;

Dovecot killing OpenLDAP
Hi all,
For some reason, dovecot is holding a connection up, so we can't shutdown
our directory server.
OpenLDAP just sits there waiting for the thread to finish.
Our OpenLDAP logs show (binding example and shutdown):
connection_input: conn=1 deferring operation: binding
daemon: shutdown requested and initiated.
conn=1 fd=12 closed (slapd shutdown)

[OT] SVN: Anybody use BDB?
I''m moving my Subversion repository to a new server. The old server uses
Berkeley DB/Sleepycat and if memory serves, it was a lot of effort to
set that up -- so I think I''ll try FSFS. Does anybody use BDB and prefer
that over FSFS? Or had any problems with FSFS? (I never had any problems
with BDB, performance or otherwise, btw.)
Thanks,
Joe

Error: dict: Failed to initialize dictionary 'expire'
Hi!
Using dovecot-1.1.17, and BDB-4.6.21.
I'm having this error in every two weeks or so. I've running this in a
crontab:
/usr/local/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail \
ext /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/expire-tool
The expire plugin and tool is working fine, the configuration is ok, and
I'm using the BDB backend.
What happens in every ~two weeks is dovecot starts to give me this error

database got corrupted, users could not login
I'm running Samba with LDAP on SuSE. Users had trouble logging in - finally
I just ran db_recover & restarted ldap and samba. It looks like the LDAP
database got corrupted somehow because samba couldn't get the LDAP data.
Also I created accounts with smbldap-useradd -m -a -B 1 username. Some of
the users were just using the same password samba seemed to kick them out. I

List shared folders
Good morning!
I run an imap-only Ubuntu 8.04 mail server with dovecot 1.2 and
pam_ldap, so all my users are posix users. No virtual user or domain, no
sql so far. I am setting up shared folders with "namespace shared". I
got no errors upon restarting the service, but I get no shared folders
listing.
As per the wiki http://wiki.dovecot.org/SharedMailboxes/Shared I can use

Bash
I have installed Ruby and Rails on my Intel iMac according to the
instructions provided by Hivelogic. Everything works perfectly.
I have noticed that if I close Terminal and later come back and open it,
It seems like the paths set in bash_login are lost. If I open bash_login
the paths are still there however if i do ruby -v it says I am running
1.8.2 (mac default) when I have installed 1.8.4.

i used
http://hivelogic.com/articles/2005/12/01/ruby_rails_lighttpd_mysql_tiger
to install ruby on rails on my mac. everything works fine unless i close
the terminal application. after a while of pulling my hair out, i found
out that everytime i restart terminal, i have to run ". ~/.bash_login"
to make the paths work right. is that what i''m supposed to do everytme,
or did
