nfe driver 6.2 stable
Hi I installed the following driver. http://www.f.csce.kyushu-u.ac.jp/~shigeaki//software/freebsd-nfe.html Before I had the nve driver which was unstable on this server and on a prior server in both cases causing either spontaneous reboot or just a crash when under load. So far touchwood the nfe driver has stayed up and running at almost 3 days uptime and has had some stress. I know the driver

FreeBSD 6.3-stable and if_re - stability problems?
Hello! Is anybody having stability problems with if_re under FreeBSD 6.3-stable? I know about PR kern/118719[1] but it doesn't look like the problem I'm having - at least my machine doesn't panic. My machine[2] runs FreeBSD 6.3-stable / amd64: root@kg-vm# uname -a FreeBSD kg-vm.kg4.no 6.3-STABLE FreeBSD 6.3-STABLE #1: Sun Jan 27 02:10:15 CET 2008

FreeBSD 9.0 - GPT boot problems?
Hi, I just installed FreeBSD 9.0-release / amd64 on a new machine (Acer Aspire X1470). I installed from a usb memory stick (the default amd64 image), which I booted by pressing "F12" and selecting it from the boot menu on the machine. I installed on a SSD (which replaced the hard drive originally in the machine), using the default scheme for 9.0 (GPT). The installation was painless (many

7.0 issues fixed? upgrade timing?
1. I have a realtek network card and am using a cable modem router. Does anyone know if fixes for problems with these (see below) have been backported from HEAD to RELENG_7? 2. Is this a good time to upgrade to RELENG_7? 3. I read a post last week that advised that 7.1 is a long way off. Appreciate any advice on use of ULE 3.0 and ZFS prior to 7.1 and a comment on what is holding up 7.1. Thanks

packet loss with re(4)
With FreeBSD 6.3-RELEASE, I'm finding significant packet loss (sometimes 85%). If I insert an Intel nic (fxp), there is nil packet loss with similar tests (ping -c 100). re0: <RealTek 8168/8111B PCIe Gigabit Ethernet> port 0xc800-0xc8ff mem 0xf9fff000-0xf9ffffff irq 17 at device 0.0 on pci1 I have seen a thread on current mentioning similar problems:

Reconstruct disklabel for UFS and GELI volumes
Hi, Somehow[TM] an installation of 4.11 to ad0s3 managed to wipe out my existing disklabel for 7.0 on ad0s4. I now need to recover the disklabel to get my system to boot! There were three labels - ad0s4a: UFS, exact size unknown. Is it possible to infer this from the UFS partition size? I can mount this already, as I simply wrote an 'a' label of maximum size to the disklabel - ad0s4b:

floppy disk controller broken
Hello, when testing FreeBSD-7.1-BETA i discovered that the floppy disk controller doesn't work correctly. Trying to format a floppy (perhaps with bad blocks) i get: Processing fdformat: ioctl(FD_FORM): Device not configured instead of the normal E letter. I then checked the same problem is present on FreeBSD-6.3 and it has been reported by Beech Rintoul (*) in 2006! Of course the floppy disk

DTrace MFC broke kldstat(2) on RELENG_7
Hi, I recently noticed that kldstat(8) started to dump core for me on RELENG_7. I traced the problem down to kldstat(2). r182231 (DTrace MFC) introduced a new version of kld_file_stat struct and added some code to support the old version of the structure in kldstat(). In the new code the old structure is known as kld_file_stat_1. Unfortunately there's a bug in this code: kldstat() copies

CC messed up in RELENG_7 build
The sources were csupped ~3 hours ago. My CC is defined as follows: env CCACHE_PREFIX=/usr/local/bin/distcc /usr/local/bin/ccache cc I have done many buildworld, buildkernel and port builds with this setting and it never caused any problems. However today buildworld fails the following way: env CCACHE_PREFIX=/usr/local/bin/distcc /usr/local/bin/ccache env CCACHE_PREFIX=/usr/local/bin/distcc

Suggest changing dirhash defaults for FreeBSD 9.2.
I have been experimenting with dirhash settings, and have scoured the internet for other peoples' experience with it. (I found the performance improvement in compiling has forestalled the need to add an SSD drive. ;-) I believe that increasing the following values by 10 would benefit most FreeBSD users without disadvantage. vfs.ufs.dirhash_maxmem: 2097152 to 20971520
