Not updating the updated_at field
This is for Rails 3.1.1 I have a field called last_seen in a model. This field will be updated when the something about the record is seen in the real world (don''t worry about this part) So I go x.update_attribute(:last_seen, Time.now) and the following happens is UPDATE "blah" SET "last_seen" = ''2012-10-23 08:57:46.179288'', "updated_at"

ActiveRecord::Persistence.increment! requires a row lock to ensure isolated updates
The method is here: https://github.com/rails/rails/blob/master/activerecord/lib/active_record/persistence.rb#L288. The method takes the in-memory attribute value and increments it by the specified amount. A safer approach (from an isolation standpoint) would be to let the database determine the value. Instead of telling the database what value to persist in the database, the SQL can written

ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: Mysql::Error: Lock wait timeout exceeded
Hi all, Ive been getting this error on one particular query repeatedly for the past few days. ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: Mysql::Error: Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction: UPDATE `posts` SET `updated_at` = ''2010-03-17 05:35:00'', `view_count` = 54 WHERE `id` = 158 Googling around, I found that this is basically because the transaction times out after

update_all not changing updated_at
Hi everyone- Model.update_all works and changes the records, but it''s not changing the updated_at field. Am I doing something wrong or is this by design? when does 'updated_at' column get updated?
Using centos 6 with puppet-2.6.17 with thin_storeconfigs with mysql and nagios exported resources. Every time an agent connects to the master, the updated_at column in the hosts table is updated. However, the updated_at column in the other tables is not updated even when I alter a nagios resource attribute like retry_check_interval. What are the conditions by which the updated_at column is

Rails 2.3 Model.touch(:column) always also updates :updated_at???
Hi, Am I the only one (i.e. something I do is wrong), or does the touch- method always update updated_at, even though giving it a column to use INSTEAD is meant to update just that column??? Thanks, Michael

created_at, updated_at and MSSQL
Hello, I am running into a little issue. There is a considerable time difference between the time that the console is giving me and the time I am seeing in the created_at and updated_at column in the DB. The difference is about 5 hours. I don''t think the problem is in the DB, but I could be wrong. Am I missing something obvious? Any clues? -- You received this message because you are

Action when database changes
Hello, Is it possible to trigger an action in a controller when a table from database changes? I thought about using an utility like cron (railscron) to check every, e.g. 2 s, if the table changed, but I am wondering if there is a solution a bit more ''elegant'': to trigger an action exactly when the change is made. Best regards, -- Kuba Nowak

How to supress field name in error message?
Hi How do I supress the reporting of a field name in the full error message? I want the error to be associated with the field so that the .fieldWithErrors class is applied to the field but I don''t want it to add the field name to the actual error message. For example: errors.add("occurs_on", "The date can''t be today!") unless occurs_on != Date.today I

Can't build termstrc package from source
Hi, I'm trying to build the termstrc 1.1 package from its source on R 2.7.2 on Windows XP. However instead of building the package it just zips the entire source into a .tar.gz file. This is the first time I'm trying to build an R package from source. I installed the R toolset for Windows and set RTools as well as Perl & MinGW directories in the path. Anybody tried this out? simple-rss caching
The index page of my rails app grabs an rss feed from a neighboring news site. Unfortunately, the process of grabbing that feed seems to be slowing down the initial load time of my site to the point where it takes about 10-12 seconds to respond and render. I''d like to speed that up somehow (for 8-10 seconds it looks like my server is not responding at all..) Any suggestions? I

fields_for and Conflicting types for parameter containers. Expected an instance of Hash but found an instance of Array.
I''m trying to use ''fields_for'' in a form. I want the same form to support both the creation of new obejcts as well as the editing of old ones. So - in my controller, sometimes I will pass to the form an object that already exists in my database and has an id and other times I will pass it a newly created instance of an object that does not yet exist in the database and
