Problems extracting python-3.1.3.amd64.msi under wine's msiexec (works on WinXP)
I was attempting to extract the contents of python-3.1.3.amd64.msi
under wine 1.3.17 32bit, using the following command:
wget http://python.org/ftp/python/3.1.3/python-3.1.3.amd64.msi
msiexec /a python-3.1.3.amd64.msi /qb TARGETDIR=out #tried c:\\out as well
and it exits immediately with the following (which I believe is a red
herring, 32bit also says this)

msiexec hangs during XML setup (used to work)
Hello all
Previously, it used to work.
But now, on a clean Wine install (including .wine directory suppression), the msiexec /i msxml3.msi "hangs" after the welcome dialog box. I Waited a few hours to be sure but nothing happens, and I have to kill the process.
Using wine 1.1.1 on Ubuntu Hardy Heron...
Is there anything more to "clean" when you want to restart a wine

Installing .msiexec file
Hi. Newbie here. Read that Wine 1.2 will run .msiexec files and the
way to install it is as user in terminal window: cd Desktop, then type
msiexec /i filename. Is that right or should I do something else?
Thanks. Bob

failed autoexecutable msi installer
Hi all,
I'm trying to install a piece of software that seems to be an
autoexecutable MSI installer (if that's the correct term). When I run it
a small 'Setup' window pops up for about 30 seconds but the content
never gets painted. Then the installer quits and I get the msiexec usage
message.
The installer runs OK on native Windows and the previous version of the
same software

Ragnarok Online - Can't update the client (details inside)
Hello. This is my first post here, as until now I wasn't missing any Windows program. As at the moment I can spare some free time I wanted to do a brief come back to Ragnarok Online.
The problem that I found is that the installer crashes every single time I start the game (image link) (http://ompldr.org/vNXpheg), and then it becomes irresponsible (image link) (http://ompldr.org/vNXpiOA).

wineprefixcreate: msiexec.exe -- "Failed to open the service control manager"
When ~/.wine does not exist, or more specifically the system.reg does
not yet exist, wineprefixcreate delivers the message "Failed to open the
service control manager." I have tracked this down to the fact that
HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services does not yet exist when the msiexec.exe
is registered and hence OpenSCManager fails.
What is the proper way to register this key. In

Problem With Wine and .MSI program
Hi folks. I am new to the forums and have only minimal experience with wine. I am trying to convert completely to Ubuntu but have been unable to get a few programs to work. One is a program for downloading audio books from my local library. It is an .msi file. I tried installing it using both the "wine msiexec /i program.msi" command and the "wine start program.msi"

Can't Install MSWORD
I could not get Wine to install Microsoft Word 2000
OS: Debian Testing
Wine version 0.9.24
The Word .exe file never showed up in the Office subdirectory
I captured the errors; it appeared that Wine crashed at some point.
The question is: can Office 2000 or parts of it be installed under this wine
version, and if not, which version will install it? I have lost track.
Here is the file contents:
