wine: /intended/PREFIXdirectory/not owned by you
I am attempting to create a folder for my wineprefixes on my external hard disk. The plan is to symlink to that location from inside my user folder (ie. ~/.wine/PREFIXES -> $iomega/.wineprefixes) For reference: $iomega=/media/Iomega_HDD This is a 400GB external drive with a single NTFS partition. The plan is to create folders for all my WINEPREFIXes at $iomega/.wineprefixes (Example:

Can't figure out how to put wineprefixes on an NTFS drive
Hi, I'm still a bit new to Linux and Wine, so please bear with me if this is a stupid question. I've been putting all my windows applications in their own wineprefixes, and now I thought I'd put some of them in my data partition, because there's always lots of free space there and many of my games take a lot of space. But when I try to create a new wineprefix on my data

Re: multiple wine versions
vitamin wrote: > Because it's wrong. WINEPREFIX is NOT where Wine is installed but where Wine will create it's fake "windows" configuration. Obviously you can't have source directory as the wineprefix. But, in this case I must to install gecko, fonts, dcom and other libs everywhere I use a different wine version, isn't it?

Regedit issues, not owned by root
Hello. I have been pretty satisfied with wine since I have become aware of its existance and am having a pretty good time with it. There are, however, a couple issues I can't wrap my head around. First of all, I cannot run regedit as root, it says: Code: wine: /home/mokuren/.wine is not owned by you I don't know how the root is supposed to "not own" something. This isn't

question about WINEPREFIX
I wanted to ask to the wine experts something about WINEPREFIX or the crossover bottles... how does the concept of "bottles" compares/differs with the concept of application virtualization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_Virtualization) used by VMware's Thinstall (http://www.thinstall.com/products/virtualization_suite.php) (aside for the .exe container*) and

Hi, I am quite new to Dovecot and I followed a tutorial on Linode to set up Dovecot, Postfix and MySql on the following site:- https://www.linode.com/docs/email/postfix/email-with-postfix-dovecot-and-mysql/ Everything seems to work fine(telnet etc) except dovecot does not create mailboxes. Highly appreciate if someone could check the error messages and the dovecot -n on the bottom and provide

Strange Behavior with Read Only files 3.0.20b
I haven't had a chance to look at the list very carefully for the past few weeks, so I apologize in advance if I'm asking a question that has recently been discussed. I seem to recall there has been some discussion about a similar situation to the one I am in. My situation is that I am having an issue with READ ONLY files -- and seeing very different behavior with Samba 3.0.20b

Wine and sudo
FAQ is strongly not recommending to run wine as a root, but why is that? What should I do if I want to use FAR Manager (http://www.farmanager.com/) for system administration?

Wine taking unacceptably long to start up (Fedora 14 x86_64)
Whenever I run any application with wine it takes upwards of five minutes to start, even apps included with wine like wine cmd. I have been googling this for hours and cannot find anything really applicable to my situation. I am running Fedora 14 x86_64. I don't have a network printer. As far as I am aware fc-cache-32 doesn't exist on Fedora. I am trying to get some other program to

Wine apps load from Ubuntu application munu but not from cli
Hey, I have just installed civilization IV and it's expansions in wine. After doing the required workarounds to make it run correctly it seems to work quite well. However, I have come to realize that I am only able to launch it when using the automatic added menu entry in the wine folder Ubuntu menu. I have reviewed the command being executed and tried the command copied from the launcher

Individual Wineprefixes
Hello, I am looking for a way to create an individual wine rpm of the actual src.rpm. My goal is a new winepfrefix, that is created when a user is logging in, that contains additional win-programs. But I did not find the path in the wine...tar.gz file, where the wineprefix is located. can someone help me? Is this even possible? Because that would be an easy way to supply a programm for all users

multiple users on LINUX - way to share a single .wine
Basically, I'd like to have just one .wine dir on my file system that multiple users on LINUX can share thus allowing me to keep a single install of my windows apps. The default is to install to /home/CURRENT_USER/.wine so I'm wondering, as long as the LINUX users are in the same group, can I relocate the .wine dir to say, /home/share/.wine and update the wineconfig? I just started using

Having Wine In A Different Directory?
I would like to have wine's user directories in '/home/wine' but when I try to set the command ?wine WINEPREFIX=/home/wine ... it fails. I've tried it with other variations too but to no success. The directory is already created at '/home/wine' with root/user permissions, and I'm a member of the user group. Most of the information on the internet is either old or
