AppDB Voting System Wierdness
Hi, I'm a newbie. I was looking at the AppDB and I think the voting is a great idea to prioritise what people want and will use. However, I was looking at my favorite game that I want to get fully working on wine - "Company of Heroes (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4506)". I can't understand why there isn't a global voting for this like

[Ubuntu 11.10] Unable to run (java?) games
Hello everyone Wine is great. I've managed to (through PlayOnLinux) get Steam installed and I'm able to play a load of my games in the comfort of Ubuntu. Currently I have all my Half Life and Half Life 2 mods working for the most part. My issue is: Some games come with a browser or launcher that checks if the game is up to date. All of these launchers tend to contain some Java, Flash

Gamemaker 5.3 under wine on OSX?
I'm very new to wine, so please excuse my noobness. I'm going to be teaching a course on Game Design for non-programmers in the fall. The school is an all-mac operation, but I'd like to use YoYo Game's Gamemaker to teach the course. YoYo has a mac version in beta, but it is unclear if it will reach release in time for my class to begin. I know that the current version of

Process to get games working better?
For example, I checked Painkiller on AppDB and it works fine, I don't get any keyboard or mouse issues anymore (avoid Compiz), so I decided to try that game first. It loads all fine but in game a lot of objects are missing like monsters. The game is pretty unplayable if you can't see what you are shooting at. Invisible or unloaded objects in games is a common problem for me. So what

Anybody have any luck with games on Sandy Bridge?
I have been trying for the past several weeks to install my various windows games on my new Sandy Bridge desktop (Ubuntu 11.10, integrated Sandy Bridge graphics, Wine 1.3) with little to no success. While the games install just fine as the appdb says they should, I have yet to get any game to run and I have come to the conclusion that it is because of the graphics. The most progress I have made is

Switching to 16-bit colour depth (from 24) - is it possible?
Hello. I'm having a bit of trouble running some old games, like Planescape Torment (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=22660&iTestingId=61130) (the GOG.com version). When I try to start the game, it complains about the desktop bit depth (I have 24 as default, and it requires 16-bit). The game suggests I should either run it in fullscreen (which I am), or to

AppdB and Bugzilla suggestion
Video acceleration is an essential aspect of personal computers now, and it's becoming more important every day. Not only for games, but also for most modern OS interfaces, video decoding and all kinds of applications are depending on it now. So, I think both AppDB and Bugzilla should have 2 aditional dropboxes when reporting test data and bugs : one for the video card manufacturer (Nividia,

2460x1440 video card recommendation
Can someone recommend a video card that's capable of driving a monitor at 2560x1600 or 2560x1440 and just works with Centos 7 without requiring any outside video drivers? I would prefer to stay with the built-in video drivers that are included with Centos 7 if possible; I don't play games and such, so I'm not looking for high performance 3D -- I just want a high resolution desktop.

Singularity game has slow video
I am posting this here because the other posters in AppDB say the game works fine. For me, the video is slow and jerky, not playable at all. System: Dell XPS630 q9550 dual core-2, 8gm RAM, 2x NVIDIA 9800GT, lots of disk space (meets all system requirements) kUbuntu-10.04, all current updates, nvidia 195.36.24 driver. Have tried kde, gnome, and lxde desktops (compositing disabled), same problem in

games through wine not detecting video card consistently
When trying to play games through wine my video card is not being detected correctly and/or consistently. In Star trek Online I get a box after game launch telling me that I have failed a systems check because I am using an unsupported video card. The box gives me the choice of trying the default settings or lowest settings or quitting the game. In World of Warcraft the video options in game

Sins of Solar Empire: crash
Hi all, I guess I am getting annoying, but I am really experiencing some problems with this game. I am trying to find the reason for these slow-downs in the game (there are already reports about this in the appdb). This time I managed to crash the game with this trace: > fixme:d3d:CreateVBO Failed to create a vertex buffer object. Continuing, but performance issues can occur >

Updated list of games with both Gamerankings.com and Appdb.winehq.org scores
Ever wish you could see which *good* games work on Wine? Here's my try at making a simple page which lets you see that at a glance. http://kegel.com/wine/games.html lists the top 50 or so games from each of the last dozen years. http://kegel.com/wine/games-2010.html is the same thing, but just for the first half of 2010. Clicking on a column sorts by that column. Changes since when I first

new wine appdb-ish site, games.ibeentoubuntu.com
I just noticed http://games.ibeentoubuntu.com It kind of duplicates (in a small way) wine's appdb, but it has gameplay videos, which is kind of cool.

Lord of the Rings Online > Volume III, Book 3
Hello. I installed the game and started the Pylotro Launcher without problems. Unfortunately the game freezes at the start. Since I am using Ubuntu 11.10 64bit, I think the problem is this: Quote from the installation found here: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=23486 > > Ensure that your system have installed the OpenGL 32bit compatibility drivers, or

Crysis first level load crash.
Hi I more or less followed the AppDB how to (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=10107&iTestingId=59999) for Crysis. Copying in the DLLs failed to solve the problem, so I rather installed directX9 from the latest winetricks as suggested in the other Crysis version

Random software that no one has, and is not in the appdb.
I have a bunch of children's games and other random software that came in cereal boxes :). Obviously 80% of these programs aren't even in the appdb, and half of them don't work for one reason or another. For the symptoms that each show when being run under wine; what can I search for to see if it's a known bug (tm) or has a workaround or if I can just expect them to hit the
