OSLEC not being loaded on Ubuntu Intrepid
I wonder if anyone has any ideas on this. I have recently migrated my server from a custom built Linux with Asterisk, Zaptel and Oslec running fine, to Ubuntu Server 8.10. I have Asterisk installed via synaptic at it works fine. I have built and installed the zaptel package by doing the following commands: sudo m-a -t build zaptel cd /usr/src sudo dpkg -i zaptel-modules-{version}.deb sudo

Wine installed - but it's not there
Hey guys, I just installed the newest Wine version (1.1.24) through the Synaptic Package Manager, but it's nowhere to be found. There is no entry in my "applications" menu, and there's no Wine folder in my home directory. I'm on 64 bit Jaunty, and I've been having trouble with Wine since I first used it (on Intrepid in March). Through constantly uninstalling and

Is there a key-combination to close a WINE program?
I have a significant problem running WINE with some programs. WINE will appear to run them just fine, but there will be this "Blinking" when I try to access the menus which make it hard to close. In one case, it also changed resolution so when I used alt-tab I had ALLOT of trouble getting back into it. I know I can use the terminal to type Code: $ wine taskmgr But when I program is

Errors using WINE with certain programs
So far I have tried using 4 programs with WINE so far and I have not been able to get any of them to work right. An Emulator program kept blinking, a small desktop application called "catwalk" also was blinking. It took me a while to get those programs closed because of the blinking. I also tried installing the Windows Version of TrueCrypt. It had an error on install. Files were

cran ubuntu repository and ubuntu 12.10
Since upgrading to quantal, I find that synaptic and apt-get cannot read the sources.list file if it includes the previously standard line deb http://lib.stat.cmu.edu/R/CRAN/bin/linux/ubuntu/ quantal This line makes apt-get or synaptic give an error message identifying this line as having a syntax error. If "multiverse" is added at the end of the line, the line is parsed, but then

R 2.14.0 for Ubuntu arriving soon: things to watch out for
Ubuntu R users: The process of sending the newest builds of R 2.14.0 to the CRAN servers has begun. I would expect to see updates coming to your machines over the next 24 hours. A couple of items to be aware of/watch out for. From the latest "R News: All packages must have a namespace, and one is created on installation if not supplied in the sources. This means that

Updating R for Linux
Colleagues, Please forgive my ignorance of this topic. I am experienced with the installation/use of R in OSX and Windows, much less so with Linux. I just created a virtual machine of Ubuntu 9.0.4. Using the Synaptic Package Manager, I installed R 2.8.1. I would like to obtain 2.9.x and I am having trouble doing so using the tools available within Ubuntu. I tried apt-get install

Wine doesn't work on FC9
I recently upgraded from Fedora 8 to Fedora 9. Wine-0.9.58 was included. When I tried to run an already installed app, nothing happened. Wine configuration didn't run either. I examined the shell scripts in /usr/bin and found that winecfg, wineconsole, winedbg, winefile, and winemine all contained the same scripts, starting with "Wrapper script to start a Winelib application once it

Updating to a Development Version breaks 'wine-dev'
Hi, I am relatively new to Linux but know what I'm doing. I have installed Ubuntu and WinE (through synaptic package manager so it took the latest stable version, 1.0.1) Warcraft III worked perfectly in this version. But GGClient (also known as Garena, a program used to play low-latency games with others on the internet through a VPN) does not work in this version of WinE. So I looked it up,

How to revert to wine 1.5.4 on Ubuntu 12.04 using Synaptic?
I am using: http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu as an additional repository in Synaptic so I can use the latest (released) version of wine, 1.5. Today, with the wine 1.5.5 update, I can no longer run World of Warcraft, so I'd like to revert to the 1.5.4 version until the latest released version works. Unfortunately, I can't force Synaptic to use 1.5.4 (perhaps because the

I simply cannot install R on Ubuntu. I don't know why.
I don't mind using sudo apt-get update/upgrade/install buit I get into crazy loops (hours) that clearly can't be trusted. But when I use Synaptic (reload/mark for install R-base) every time I get some list of things things it want to install as well and syas "Mark" which it does not do and when I go forward with the Synaptic install of R-base I get this (and abort) every time:
