PlayOnline Viewer fails to complete installation
Hi there, folks. I've been trying to install the Vista/Windows 7 PlayOnline Viwer for FFXI and I've run into a problem; it fails to complete its install. It gets beyond the point where it extracts the POL/TetraMaster msi's however, it fails on the step right after. Here's the list of fixmes that it spits out when it bombs:

PlayOnline Viewer Update to Version 1.17.01 Won't Display Font.
Hello,
I'm having a problem in which some of the fonts won't display while running
the PlayOnline Viewer for Final Fantasy XI. This occurred when I updated
today to version 1.17.01. I'm using wine-0.9.12 and before I updated, all
fonts would display. Anyone have any suggestions?

Diablo 2 LOD not patching or playable
I'm on Ubuntu 10.04 and using wine 1.1.42 via playonlinux. I have tried installing Diablo 2 LOD straight from the cds several times now and each time it would not let me auto patch so I figured I would try to play it unpatched and when I try to it freezes between the blizzard north and main screen...if I alt tab a few times it will eventually show the main screen but I can't click on

Problems with Final Fantasy XI Online - Japanese
Hello all,
I've been trying (and thus far failing) to get the Japanese version of FFXI working under wine. I have been playing FFXI here in Japan since the release, so I have the original Japanese 4-disc CD set, plus the extra CDs/DVDs for each different expansion.
I originally started with wine-1.3.8, and for the most part, the CD installs and POL/FFXI updates worked fine -- I was actually

dll files
I'm a recent convert to the Linux lifestyle, and I would like to get to a point where I rarely, if ever, have to boot into Windows on my machine. While I'm not a huge gamer, I do enjoy Final Fantasy XI. I would like to get it to run under Linux/Wine. According to the information from the AppDB, the only way to get FFXI working under Wine is to have a copy of the dxdiagn.dll from Windows

Errors using WINE with certain programs
So far I have tried using 4 programs with WINE so far and I have not been able to get any of them to work right. An Emulator program kept blinking, a small desktop application called "catwalk" also was blinking. It took me a while to get those programs closed because of the blinking.
I also tried installing the Windows Version of TrueCrypt. It had an error on install. Files were

FFXI on Debian Etch 4.0-r6 AMD64
I followed the instructions for setting up FFXI on Wine (including copying the .dll from the Windows XP system) but when I launch pol.exe, it just comes up with a black screen. I can hear music for a few minutes but then it crashes. Anyone have any ideas?
Code:
nate at tux:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/PlayOnline/SquareEnix/PlayOnlineViewer$ wine pol.exe

How do I get WINE to see a mounted disc image as a CD?
I prefer to run games that require CDs from image files, since it is faster and protects the life of my CDs. In windows, I would just mount the disc image and I could then play. But using Wine and Ubuntu, it appears to work differently.
When installing a Windows CD using WINE under Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, how should I go about mounting a disc image so it is seen by games running under WINE as a CD?

Why isn't patch code written into releases??
This has kind of annoyed me lately. The FFXI patch code has been around for ages now, but it still isn't included in development releases (currently 1.1.17). Nor priobably more usefully is the Fallout 3 patch which benifits others games with the VideoDriver ability?? Is there actually any reason why they are not included??

Re: Problems with Final Fantasy XI Online - Japanese
Resurrecting this old thread after more than a year in the hope that maybe someone will have some kind of idea or suggestion...
I'm now using wine-1.4-rc1, and still am unable to get past the FFXI character selection screen. I still cannot install the Altana expansion DVD yet either.
Unfortunately borrowing the English version to test is not possible for me, as I live in Japan. Buying it

Darwine: Running an SDL game
Hi all
I'm trying to play the game "BOH" (http://www.bohthegame.com/) on OS X using Darwine. I downloaded 1.1.19 and dragged the Darwine folder to /Applications. Then I opened the BOH installer using WineHelper and installed the game. For some reason it put the installed files inside the WineHelper application bundle. When I tried to open the game's executable using WineHelper,

FFXI Ultimate Collection: Abyssea Edition Install
I know the HowTo deals with installing FFXI from a DVD but I'm having problems installing this from an .exe downloaded from the Square Enix Store. Basically the installer runs, and I'm able to continue in the installer, then select the components to install (POL, FFXI and all 4 expansions). However, when I click Next, the Installer skips to the Install Completion window. Note that this

Question about running SecuROM under WINE
I am new to WINE, and Unix-based systems in General. I have up until recently been using Windows XP Home, but after installing Spore, SecuROM was also installed onto Ring 0 of the Kernel and has pretty much fried my computer. Apparently, because of where it installed itself, it interfered with other programs and now I can't get anything to work right.
So I switched to Ubuntu 8.10 for 64-bit

Making wine use the correct OpenGL libraries
I am trying to compile Wine under Snow Leopard and I finally managed to fix the issue where it could find the OpenGL development headers, but... having done that, it finds the wrong OpenGL libraries by default, in other words, running ./configure with:
./configure CPPFLAGS='-I/usr/X11/include'
Results in:
checking for GL/gl.h... yes
checking for GL/glx.h... yes
checking for GL/glu.h... yes

[Ubuntu 11.10] Unable to run (java?) games
Hello everyone
Wine is great. I've managed to (through PlayOnLinux) get Steam installed and I'm able to play a load of my games in the comfort of Ubuntu.
Currently I have all my Half Life and Half Life 2 mods working for the most part.
My issue is:
Some games come with a browser or launcher that checks if the game is up to date. All of these launchers tend to contain some Java, Flash
