Windows DirectDraw?
I just tried to install an ancient detective-type RPG ( I am not up with the
classifications.)
(a) It offered to install DirectX. Since Wine has its own DirectX, I
ignored that.
(b) The game failed to run because (according to the message box) it
couldn't find DirectDraw. This showed as a Fixme in the terminal, while
the error message was to do with the display settings - there was no mode

DirectDraw error and mouse stuck in the corner
Hello all,
I was installing Thomas the Tank Engine (for my son, not me) and ran into 2 problems:
- Unless I added "Desktop"="1024x768" to [Software\\Wine\\X11 Driver] in user.reg, the program would give a DirectDraw error. Is there a better way to fix this error?
- The mouse works, but it keeps returning to the bottom right corner. I applied a patch (settings.c.diff), which

rsync/cygwin - strange behavior with VFAT-formatted USB-disk
Hi,
we do a nightly backup using rsync (v2.5.6 as server on RedHat 7.3 and rsync
2.5.5 on Windows 2000/Cygwin). The backup media connected to the
Windows-Client is a VFAT-formatted Maxtor USB-Disk.
Everytime I run rsync from the windows-client, the following error occurs:

DirectDraw problem
Hello all,
I am trying to install an application done in Java, but in a kind of
very Windows-Centric Java. The installer is InstallAnywhere. There's
obviously a problem with calls to DirectDraw, both with the installer,
and with the application itself if I try to run a version installed on
Windows.
When I try with the builtin ddraw.dll, the messages are :

Directdraw and Wine Compilation
Hi, I am trying to compile wine in an AMD64 Ubuntu machine, taking the
precautions needed shown in the winehq's wiki to do it. The
compilation finishes fine, but for some reason there is no support for
some things that used to have in the i386 pre-compiled package.
One of them is ALSA sound. I use ALSA because for some reason OSS
sometimes ruins the sound making it look like a loud scratch

Good luck with that. It never really worked. Ever, not counting a special kind of DDraw games (haven't seen a single one yet, but the code is there...).
AJ stated that until Wine will be stable enough it should never completely grab mouse/keyboard input. You'll need to reboot/power

Starcraft and Diablo II use a lot of CPU power
Hello,
I am running Wine 1.0 under Fedora 9 x86_64. The problem is that the two mentioned games use a lot of CPU power about 50 % on a 2 Ghz Core 2 Duo. At first I thought this is caused by GDI DirectDraw renderer, but changing to opengl did not help. Also, it is just the same when you configure Diablo to use Direct3D renderer. Does anybody has any idea where can I look for the source of this

Problems with Directx
Ever since 1.1.27, I've been having problems with what I think is directx. I updated to 1.1.29 (I skipped .28) and I still get the same errors. I've tried using winetricks to install Directx9, but it doesn't do much to alleviate the problem. I've completely deleted my .wine folder and reinstalled 1.1.29 from scratch, but I still get the problem. I have the latest nVidia drivers

Purpose of DIB Engine?
Hello again.
Today I got following question:
What is the purpose of DIB Engine? Is it to speed up DirectDraw apps, or is
it to add missing functionality for DirectDraw ?emulation?? I'm asking this
because I recently tested few DDraw apps (Fallout2 and Happyland Adventures)
with DIB enabled and... well for HA there was now significant speed
difference, and Fallout2 slowed down even more :( .

Dogfood Challenge : Ableton Live 7.07 demo
As soon as the application starts, a window pops up that (normally under windows) would say "this is a trial version demo, click okay to start the trial", or something along those lines. The window is blank and clicking randomly on it (to find the "ok") does not work either. The following output from wine during this test is as follows :

Starcraft / DirectDrawRenderer = opengl
I'm having a problem with the directdraw opengl renderer and StarCraft
on wine 0.9.49.
When I run starcraft with the opengl renderer, only 1x1 pixel is
displayed stretched to full screen size.
The other settings have no effect, (Other than RenderTargetLockMode =
readtext, if I leave this at default StarCraft crashes, but this is
known about).
I've updated my graphics drivers to the

DirectX in Wine
I've tried to install the game "Caesar 3" on my Linux-box. It worked fine
during the installation. The problem appeared when I wanted to play it.
Caesar 3 needed the file DDRAW.DLL
I found out that it was one of DirectX's .dll-files. Isn't Wine supposed
to work with DirectX without installing it? Doesn't Wine have its own
"DirectX-clone"?
What should I

NeverHood won't run [Unable to initialize DirectDraw]
I just installed the old game The Neverhood into WINE, and it won't run. On start up it pops up the following dialogue boxes:
DDERR_UNSUPPORTED
and
Unable to initialize DirectDraw.
I have it set to run in Windows 98 (like the how-to from the AppDB), and I've tried it with both Vertex Shader and pixel shader on and off. I installed the DirectX that came with it.
I keep getting the same
