What is require ''digest/sha1''?
In http://www.aidanf.net/rails_user_authentication_tutorial there is a
string called require ''digest/sha1'' in the model. What does it do?
Everything else is well explained besides that.

Question on login generators, plugins
Not sure if I want to build my own or use something already built that''s out
there.
This is the first step in my project though and a major one, so some of my
requirements would be:
1-The ability for a user to register themselves
2-Email / link activation
3-Access levels (or ACL control - I think they are basically the same).
4-The ability to track users either through session or cookies

Newbie Q: "user" variable in every view?
Newbie to RoR -- as a long time Java Struts/etc. guy it is an awesome tool!
I have implemented some basic login/session stuff with the help of a great
tutorial, props to the author (
http://www.aidanf.net/rails_user_authentication_tutorial).
I have a trivial instance method in ApplicationController, which just grabs
the User object from the session.
def current_user
session[:user]

Rails and user authentification
I am a the point now where I have to add user authentification to my
application.
Anyone can point me toward an easy to use / secure library? I know about
ActiveRBAC and was wondering if there is anything else that I should
consider.
Thanks!

File manipulation
What are the possibilities of file manipulation in RoR? How do you
create a .html or .rhtml file with ruby to be placed in the public
folder, with custom content?
Btw, where is RoR root? Is that ''public''?

rails_upgrade maintenance
There was a thread a little earlier in the year about maintaining the official Rails plugins. It would seem that rails_upgrade has been left by the wayside, with pull requests dating back as early as September last year. It''s mentioned in the 3.0 release notes as a way of checking your application for changes between 2.3 and 3.0, but what''s the point if the official version of it

vmplayer on xen guest
Hi!
I need to install vmplayer on Xen guest with centos4.4.
When I run vmplayer-config.pl I have problems with inserting vmmon module in kernel. The dmesg shows this message
vmmon: Unknown symbol xen_features
I read on the forums that vmware is not running on Xen. What I am wondering is if this affirmation refers also to vmplayer and if not how can I skip this problem?
Thanks in advance!

Manually delete .glusterfs/changelogs directory ?
Hi Mabi,
If you will not use that geo-replication volume session again, I believe it
is safe to manually delete the files in the brick directory using rm -rf.
However, the gluster documentation specifies that if the session is to be
permanently deleted, this is the command to use:
gluster volume geo-replication gv1 snode1::gv2 delete reset-sync-time

Vorbis still glitching on metadata update?
Greetings,
I am trying to track down a bug with intermittant glitching in our
Vorbis streams.
I am running Icecast 2.3.2 on Ubuntu 9.04.
Several Vorbis clients seem to glitch on some (not all) metadata
updates. As we update metadata 3 to 4 times a minute, this is
something we are trying to fix, VLC gives the following output on
metadata update:
