problems with migrations in sql server
Is anyone using migrations with a SQL Server database who might be able to
lend me a hand? I''ve used migrations with MySql in the past and haven''t
run into any issues so forgive When I run rake migrate nothing is actually
getting updated in my database. I created a migration using
./script/generate migration AddFooTable and updated the migration to look as
follows:

migrations schema_info table, Rails Recipes Bug?
I have the rails recipes book and i was going through the migrations
recipe. Everything seemed to work except for the last part in trying to do
a rake migrate with a migration file version 1 and the schema_info version
set to 0. Without the force attribute, the rake migration fails, as
expected.
So the recipe says to run this:

Book Review: Ruby for Rails
Hi all
I''ve posted a review of David Black''s book _Ruby for Rails_ on my blog:
http://www.robsanheim.com/2006/10/04/ruby-for-rails-by-david-a-black-book-review/
The quick summary: "A fantastic guide to Ruby for programmers of all
skill levels - up there with the PickAxe and may even surpasses it".
Thought some might find it useful.

better way to include helpers into application controller/test_helper?
Right now, I have the following in my application controller - and a
simliar version is duplicated in test_helper. There must be a better
way to include common functionality like this that gets used across
layers? Maybe at the very least a way to include it at the class
level and instance level with one line?
# provide access to text helper at class level

problems testing helpers - link_to and url_for don''t work...
So I''ve used the helper test plugin, and also tried some things from
Rails Recipes, and basically neither seems to work for cases where a
helper does anything related to link_to/url_for, and this includes
calling named_routes. This is obviously an issue, as a common use for
helpers is to refactoring something like this:
<%= link_to "text that changes slightly", :id => id

adding color to autotest output
I was wondering if anyone had a quick an easy way to add color to the
autotest output. I just want a nice green splash somewhere on
success, and red on failure - I miss the Eclipse xUnit plugin''s easy
feedback where I didn''t have to read log output. =)

question on gem update rails effect on fcgi/mysql bindings
Would upgrading rails and all dependancies break the installation of
the fcgi/mysql bindings? I know I had all this stuff working a month
ago or so, but since then I''ve updated a few times...

Migration DB Question
Just going through ''agile web development with rails'' 2nd ed.
I accidentally created an empty migration source file with the wrong
name,
ruby script/generate migration add_test_date
and then straight after that created the one I wanted to use
ruby script/generate migration add_test_data
and populated the second one - when I ran
rake db:migrate
a few times it did not seem

now that I have migrations working (I think I do anyway)
Do I now define database changes directly in
db/migration/0001_add_a_new_table
file ?
Obviously the point is not to make the changes directly in postgresql db
anymore right?
Thanks

rake migrate the first time - uses more than schema_info?
All,
I have two migration files, file 1 and file 2.
For reasons that I don''t want to go into unless I must, I want to only
run file 2 on my production database (file 1 contains a bunch of table
creation stuff for already existing tables).
I figured if I created a schema_info table and set the version in it to
1, then I could just run rake db:migrate RAILS_ENV=production and just

Switchtower not working due to openssl not found
I''m struggling to get switchtower working, and from other posts about
it I know it has something to do with ruby binding to open ssl. I''m
just not sure what I should recompile/reinstall to get things to work.

Problem with migrations, postgresql, AWDwR
Hi all,
Rails 1.1.4
Rake 0.7.1
PostgreSQL 8.1.4
Windows XP Pro
I checked for errata on pragmaticprogrammer.com, but didn''t see any
explicit mention of this issue.
I''m going over the depot example in AWDwR, 2nd ed, and I can''t get the
migration to work on p. 82. Specifically, the AddTestData example (with
reduced description text to save my fingers some typing):

Plugin w/ Migrations and/or Fixtures?
I''m working on a plugin which needs to add both schema and data to the app
database, and I''m trying to figure out the best way to do it. I''d like to use a
db migration to modify the schema and load the data from a YAML fixture, but
Rails doesn''t seem to support migrations for plugins. To do so, the schema_info
table would need to change to include a

Better way to import initial migration?
On a rails app that I''m developing I converted a regular old .sql file
into a rails migration. Since I generated the migration in my
development environment, it created the schema_info table for me.
However, when I updated my production environment and tried running
rake migrate it complained that schema_info doesn''t exist. Is there a
rake task for getting around this yet, or
