[PATCH] xen: drop anti-dependency on X86_VISWS
This seems to have been added in f0f32fccbffa to avoid a conflict arising from the long deceased ARCH_SETUP() macro and subsequently pushed down to the XEN option. As far as I can tell the conflict is no longer present and by dropping the dependency I was able to build a kernel which has both CONFIG_XEN and CONFIG_X86_VISWS enabled and boot it on Xen. I didn't try it on the VISWS platform.

Eicon Diva - problems building new v3 melware driver
Hi Armin! I have problems on debian sarge with standard 2.6.8-2-386 kernel. I've installed the packages: kernel-headers-2.6.8-2 kernel-headers-2.6.8-2-386 kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386 kernel-kbuild-2.6-3 kernel-source-2.6.8 Then I unpacked the kernel sources into /usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.8 and made a symlink from /usr/src/linux --> kernel-source-2.6.8 Then I entered

Problem compiling a custom kernel for xen-3.0
Hello, I am trying to run xen-3.0 in some of my dell servers. I have tried the binary distribution of xen, but it doesn''t boot in my test system (a dell poweredge 750) because a module driver problem (I get an error message during booting saying it doesn''t load a NFS root filesystem). So I am trying to compile a custom kernel. So I have downloaded linux source 2.6.12. I am

[LLVMdev] Linux Kernel Compile for Sparc v8 Arch
Does anyone succeed at compiling Linux kernel for Sparc v8 architecture? I am currently trying to expand the regime of LLVM to Sparc kernel codes. The following is the initial error messages. Any comment is welcomed. #1. Inline Assembly Code: register struct thread_info *current_thread_info_reg asm("g6"); Error Message: include/asm/thread_info.h:77: error:

[PATCH 2/5] Interrupts subarch cleanup.patch
A brave attempt to be rid of an unnecessary subarch hook and clean things up a bit. First, all subarches use IRQ-2 as a cascade IRQ. So do that in the common code. Second, there is no need for a pre_intr_init_hook. We can set up the interrupt gates at any time, as this doesn't touch any real hardware, just the processor gates. Now the subarch code still needs to setup the appropriate irq

[RFC, PATCH 2/24] i386 Vmi config
Introduce the basic VMI sub-arch configuration dependencies. VMI kernels only are designed to run on modern hardware platforms. As such, they require a working APIC, and do not support some legacy functionality, including APM BIOS, ISA and MCA bus systems, PCI BIOS interfaces, or PnP BIOS (by implication of dropping ISA support). They also require a P6 series CPU. Signed-off-by: Zachary Amsden

[PATCH 0/7] x86 paravirtualization infrastructure
The following patches introduce the core infrastructure needed to paravirtualize the 32-bit x86 Linux kernel. This is done by moving virtualization sensitive insn's or code paths to a function table, paravirt_ops. This structure can be populated with hypervisor specific calls or native stubs and currently support running on bare metal, VMI, Xen, or Lhype. These patches apply to

[PATCH 1/3] Virtualization config cleanup: Select CONFIG_PARAVIRT when required
(Unless there are complaints, I'll push this as part of the lguest patches for 2.6.24, since there are lguest config changes there too). Andi points out that PARAVIRT is an option best selected when needed. We introduce PARAVIRT_GUEST for the menu itself, and select PARAVIRT if the user turns on anything which needs it.
