OT: Large corporate email systems - Exchange vs open source *nix based
Hello, There has been some whispers about considering migrating our mail systems to Exchange Server. I want to try to nip this in the bud. I would like to ask for some help with providing some kind of comparison of large(r) commercial companies use of email systems... specifically, those using Microsoft Exchange Server, vs those using open source Linux/Unix based systems, including even

Using puppet to change passwords on nix systems
Hi, I am new to this and I discovered a manifest in an old post that should change passwords. It runs fine, but the password does not change. I am wondering how this would work since it would need to change the shadow. Thanks define change_passwd($user,$passwd) { exec { "/usr/bin/puppet apply -v -e \''user { \"${user}\": password => \"${passwd}\"

[LLVMdev] IDE on *nix
Hi all, Is anyone using any flavour of Unix to develop LLVM? I suppose the Apple guys are using Mac, right? ;) I've seen some docs on the website to set-up Visual Studio but I haven't seen anything related to cross-platform IDEs (such as Eclipse) and how to attach the tests to them. So far I'm not doing any modifications to the LLVM and my project is still too small to become a

[LLVMdev] IDE on *nix
Hi Renato, I've been using LLVM with Eclipse for a while now. The way to do it is to build LLVM with CMake and tell CMake to generate an Eclipse project file, like so: cmake -G "Eclipse CDT4 - Unix Makefiles" -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE="Debug" -DBUILD_SHARED_LIBS=ON -DLLVM_TARGETS_TO_BUILD="X86;PowerPC;CBackend" /home/renato/llvm-sources You'll need to modify

browse ntfs files from *nix
I am not quite clear on how to browse windows files from FreeBSD. I have found two possibilities - sharity-lite and smbclient for Win32. However, I have no idea of how to use smbclient for Windows. My setup is FreeBSD 4.7 with Samba installed and working well. I can access kFBSD from WinXP & other machines with no problem. But how do I read files on Windows? Google wasn't much help...

Best way to manage file/dir permissions: samba or *nix perms
Hi all! I have samba 2.0.5a running on a RedHat 6.1 systems, everything works fine for me. I don't have experience in large user installations. By that I mean a server with many users, directories, groups, project directories, public directories, etc. Linux standard file permissions (owner, groups, other) can be a headache sometimes. With samba one have more permissions to worry about, but

Seeking entry level BSD/*nix position in DFW area
I am a Windows admin looking to make the switch to the BSD/*nix side of the house. I am currently working nights (Sun-Thu, 10PM-6AM) but am looking for an enty level BSD/*nix position during the day. I am able to work both jobs(already have done so for over 9 months), as long as there is no night or on-call responsibility. Goal is to get feet wet and prove myself and then make the switch to

Issue calling other PBX systems using VoIP with Polycom 501
I am having an issue using a Polycom 501 and VoIP for outgoing calls where if I call say my credit card company and try to follow their PBX menu, the key presses never register with their PBX. It's as if every key press I make absolutely nothing is being sent to them. Is there some setting in the phone or Asterisk that I need to change to fix this issue? Thanks for any help, Andrew

How to learn encrypted VoIP development for embedded systems
Hi list, A few times I have been asked if I could do encrypted VoIP development, for embedded systems, and in C++. And my answer has been in negative. Now I am thinking I should start learning how to do it, but I have no clue where to start from. I have been developing in Java for some time now, but haven't touched C++ in years. I haven't programmed for embedded systems. Even if I knew

Any reason to *not* use AEL? (Also, MixMonitor q)
I am building a new Asterisk server here at the office, and I'm wondering if there are any downsides to creating my dialplan with AEL. It seems more intuitive (to me), but I'm not sure if there are any pitfalls I need to be aware of first. We use this for internal extensions, 8 pots lines, and our answering service which gets about 500 incoming calls a day down our T1. Also, one more
