[PATCH] x86_64 paravirt_ops port
Hi all, I've been working on a port of paravirt_ops for the x86_64 architectures for a couple of days. Here's the result so far. I'm posting it soon for early cooments. The more, the better. It's obviously based on the previous work for i386, with the needed modifications. By now, I'm able to boot a bare metal kernel, but there are still some known issues, that are in my TODO

[PATCH 11/13] x86/paravirt: Add paravirt alternatives infrastructure
With CONFIG_PARAVIRT, the kernel .text is littered with a bunch of calls to pv_irq_ops function pointers, like: callq *0xffffffff81e3a400 (pv_irq_ops.save_fl) In non-Xen paravirt environments -- including native, KVM, Hyper-V, and VMware -- the above code gets patched by native_patch() to look like this instead: pushfq pop %rax nopl 0x0(%rax,%rax,1) So in most scenarios,

[PATCH v6 48/76] x86/entry/64: Add entry code for #VC handler
From: Joerg Roedel <jroedel at suse.de> The #VC handler needs special entry code because: 1. It runs on an IST stack 2. It needs to be able to handle nested #VC exceptions To make this work the entry code is implemented to pretend it doesn't use an IST stack. When entered from user-mode or early SYSCALL entry path it switches to the task stack, if entered from kernel-mode it tries

[PATCH] linux-2.6.18/x86: improve CR0 read/write handling
With the only bit in CR0 permitted to be changed by PV guests being TS, optimize the handling towards that: Keep a cached value in a per-CPU variable, and issue HYPERVISOR_fpu_taskswitch hypercalls for updates in all but the unusual case should something in the system still try to modify another bit (the attempt of which would then be logged by the hypervisor). This removes the need to have the

[PATCH] x86-64: syscall/sysenter support for 32-bit apps
.. for both 32-bit apps in 64-bit pv guests and 32on64. This patch depends on more than just guest_context saved/restored as guest state during save/restore/migrate (namely the new fields holding callback addresses). Since the 32-bit kernel doesn''t make use of syscall (it would be possible to do so now, when running on a 64-bit hv), the compat mode guest code path for syscall

[PATCH] lguest: clean up some l"references .init.text" warnings
Thanks to Andrew for pointing these out. This patch moves the parvirtprobe section into .init.data: it's only used in very very early boot, and for similar reasons, puts lguest_maybe_init and lguest_memory_setup in init.text. As well as fixing some warnings, this frees up a tiny bit more memory. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au> diff -r ecec388180b2

[PATCH v4] x86/xen: Use __pa_symbol instead of __pa on C visible symbols
This change updates a few of the functions to use __pa_symbol when translating C visible symbols instead of __pa. By using __pa_symbol we are able to drop a few extra lines of code as don't have to test to see if the virtual pointer is a part of the kernel text or just standard virtual memory.
