[RFC/PATCH 01/15] preparation: provide hook to enable pgstes in user pagetable
From: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky at de.ibm.com> The SIE instruction on s390 uses the 2nd half of the page table page to virtualize the storage keys of a guest. This patch offers the s390_enable_sie function, which reorganizes the page tables of a single-threaded process to reserve space in the page table: s390_enable_sie makes sure that the process is single threaded and then uses

Bug#646987: /usr/bin/xinit: xinit fails with xkbcomp could not be invoked
The function that returns ENOMEM is actually copy_mm. It returns ENOMEM when dup_mm returns 0. copy_mm receives clone_flags and task_struct * tsk. I think tsk is pointing to the new task (the process being forked). copy_mm assigns some values into *tsk, then: tsk->mm = NULL; tsk->active_mm = NULL; then we check if current process has ->mm; if not, return 0 (effectively

Crash in CentOS 7 kernel-3.10.0-514.16.1.el7.x86_64 in Xen PV mode
I experienced a bug that is likely the same as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1350373 . Commit b7dd0e350e0bd4c0fddcc9b8958342700b00b168 , which is supposed to fix it, doesn't appear in this kernel and doesn't apply cleanly either. Is there any point in trying to backport the patch? The backtrace is as follows: [ 32.304666] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [

[PATCH v2] x86/paravirt: merge activate_mm and dup_mmap callbacks
The two paravirt callbacks .mmu.activate_mm and .mmu.dup_mmap are sharing the same implementations in all cases: for Xen PV guests they are pinning the PGD of the new mm_struct, and for all other cases they are a NOP. In the end both callbacks are meant to register an address space with the underlying hypervisor, so there needs to be only a single callback for that purpose. So merge them to a

[PATCH 2/6] Paravirt CPU hypercall batching mode
The VMI ROM has a mode where hypercalls can be queued and batched. This turns out to be a significant win during context switch, but must be done at a specific point before side effects to CPU state are visible to subsequent instructions. This is similar to the MMU batching hooks already provided. The same hooks could be used by the Xen backend to implement a context switch multicall. To

[PATCHv3 1/2] mm: move use_mm/unuse_mm from aio.c to mm/
Anyone who wants to do copy to/from user from a kernel thread, needs use_mm (like what fs/aio has). Move that into mm/, to make reusing and exporting easier down the line, and make aio use it. [PATCH 1/3] Rename icat command in download_inode
The "icat" name comes from the employed command line tool which might be replaced at any time with a different implementation. The command name is a bit confusing because it's similar to "cat" but act as "donwload". download_inode is more clear and descriptive.
