rake db:migrate debacle
Hi there - I''m a ruby newbie and am stuck on the Getting Started with Rails app. See output below. Problem arose when I ran the rake db:migrate command. I also tried the ''rake db:migrate RAILS_ENV=development'' command which may be obvious. Any ideas on how to fix this? Many thanks!! $ ruby -v ruby 1.9.3p392 (2013-02-22 revision 39386) [x86_64-darwin10.8.0]

How to supress field name in error message?
Hi How do I supress the reporting of a field name in the full error message? I want the error to be associated with the field so that the .fieldWithErrors class is applied to the field but I don''t want it to add the field name to the actual error message. For example: errors.add("occurs_on", "The date can''t be today!") unless occurs_on != Date.today I

create production tables? use "rake db:migrate"?
Hi, What is the normal mechanism for creating the tables in the (a) test and (b) production databases. For example the following didn''t work for creating the production tables: a) change environment.rb to include "ENV[''RAILS_ENV''] ||= ''production''" b) run "rake db:migrate" However this seemed to still work against DEV not

rake migrate the first time - uses more than schema_info?
All, I have two migration files, file 1 and file 2. For reasons that I don''t want to go into unless I must, I want to only run file 2 on my production database (file 1 contains a bunch of table creation stuff for already existing tables). I figured if I created a schema_info table and set the version in it to 1, then I could just run rake db:migrate RAILS_ENV=production and just

rake migrate -- which db affected?
Dumb question, but when you do ''rake migrate'', which database is affected (e.g. test, development, or production)? Is there a way to target a specific one? [Rails3] How to define RAILS_ENV for rake?
With Rails3, it is no longer possible (well soon to be deprecated) to do: $ RAILS_ENV=test rake db:migrate So what''s the new way of doing it? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. Migration commands -- create a SQL Server production DB?
Hallo -- could anyone tell me how I use Migrations (which my existing development schema is implemented with) to create the production database for deployment? The target DB is a SQL Server database -- I don''t know if that''s an issue -- I seem to remember reading that SQL Server is supported now. Oh, yeah -- SQL Server was *not* my choice! But what I seem totally unable to

Rails cronjob?
I want to be able to write a script in Ruby which regularly consumes an XML feed from a fixed source, re-formats it, produces a large file for web delivery, and updates a database with the contained information. It''s simple - just running a script from a cron job, and some basic data manipulation... But I''d prefer to use the Rails database mapping constructs than roll my

[TIP] Ensure your test data is valid
Recently I wanted to check that my test data was valid. Seems like a reasonable thing to want to do so I thought I''d share the rake task. Add this code to a rake file in lib/tasks and run with rake db:fixtures:validate. It will print out the class, record id and error messages for any model objects that fail validation. Enjoy! -Jonathan. -- namespace :db do namespace :fixtures do

Rails Authentication Tutorial
Does anyone know a good authentication tutorial they can suggest? I''ve tried several restful authentication ones and an authlogic one on RailsCast. But with each one I try, something seems to be missing in the tutorial and I can''t get it to work. I''m new to Rails so it''s possible user error on my part. I''m on Mac OS X 10.5 and I generate all my apps in

Capistrano only runs migration against production env?
All, Just read in the Capistrano manual about the Capistrano "migrate" task. There it says that: "By default, all this task does is change to the directory of your current release (as indicated by the current symlink), and run rake RAILS_ENV=production migrate. You can specify that it should run against the latest release (regardless of what the current release is) by setting
