'service' command not present
I just did an install of CentOS 5 on one of my machines. However, when I try to use the 'service' command (such as 'service httpd start') I get an error that the service command is not found. Why would that be? Where does this command come from? I can launch the services just fine using the respective /etc/init.d/ entries. -- Cheers, Trey ---- Dieters live life in the

Server Build Example
I'm coming from the Fedora arena and I want to build, what I would call, a production server. I'm to the point where I don't want to upgrade every 6-months. I'm running Oracle DB 11g, a Tomcat/JBoss hybrid application server, and several other server type functions. Is there an example of building a server that boots into init3? Thanks, Gene Poole -------------- next part

/dev/random problem after moving to zfs boot:
I have one thing happening now at boot which must have happened during the migration to zfs boot. I get an error message about /dev/random: "No randomness provider enabled for /dev/random. Use cryptoadm to provide one." Does anyone know how to fix this? Another thing: Is it possible to upgrade to a higher build when using zfs boot? Is this what LiveUpgrade does? And is there a step by

Installing glusterfs ver 2.* on fedora7 i386 ?
I succeeded in installing 2.0.6 src rpm on my fedora7 i386 hosts, but it does not work at all. Everytime I try to write files in the mounted folder, the operation fails with error messages like ".... invalid argument". I think there's difference between fc7 and glusterfs ver 2.* in the file attribute format. Does anyone know how to fix this? The former version 1.3.* is not

[PULL 0/8] MultiFS suppport for BIOS and EFI
So last week I was wondering if XFS was still working -- even with its last on-disk structure changes -- and it _suprisingly_ worked as expected. Right, now I can finally get rid of GRUB and use Syslinux to boot my Linux on EFI from a rootfs with xfs. Shit, I have two partitions (the first one being the required ESP) so there is no way to access the other partitions since because Syslinux does not

I'm using a combination of url based install with a kickstart script pasted to a gist in order to bootstrap the entire thing. It **used** to work (fedora16), but recently stopped. ------- Note : Right now Im not using the os-variant switch because fedora17+
