Macs deleting files off RHEL8 server.
I?ve got a situation with my Macs connecting to a Linux server via SMB
where files/folders are randomly getting deleted from the server. The
server logs are showing that a Mac is deleting them, but I know for a fact
that it?s not human error, as my users are very vigilant in that regard,
and the files/folders have no correlation to each other. Is there anyway of
finding out how/why my Macs are

"username map" parameter not working after upgrade to SAMBA 3
I have been using the "username map" parameter for some time on various
versions of Samba 2, and it has worked nicely. Last week I upgraded to
Samba 3 and integrated with Active Directory. Since I am using Solaris
8, and "nsswitch.conf" doesn't support winbindd, I am using the "add
user script" parameter to add users. What is happening is that users in

Steps Taken:
-Setup the samba configuration (smb.conf) using swat. [SEE BELOW]
-Created User Linux accounts, (default group:100, shell:/bin/false),

Cannot access HOME folder after upgrading to 4.8 from 4.6
Hello-
I upgraded Samba from 4.6 to 4.8 on a FreeBSD 11.2 server. After the upgrade, users cannot access the HOME folder share but they can access other shares just fine.
I am using the RID backend on this member server that connects to Windows-based domain controllers. I apologize for the lengthy smb4.conf but here it is:

Files missing (not hidden)
Hi there,
I have a samba install on centos 5 with the latest version of samba (samba-3.0.33-3.28). There were two files that just disappeared. The users description is as below:
I had worked on them ? both were excel files that linked to each other. I saved it as a different name than the original I worked from (which I found to be very ?buggy?) ? the originals are still in their respective

DFS questions...
Hello Rowland,
If someone wants full_audit, will adding 'vfs objects = full_audit' on a DC also have dfs_samba4 and acl_xattr enabled just because running on a DC, or would this cause both defaults to be turned off?
Thanks,
Joachim

DOS style 8.3 filename mangling issues??!
Okay, I've run through all of the tests in the DIAGNOSE, which my 1.9.18p1 SAMBA
server (and NT4SP3/W95 clients) pass with flying colours.
server box: Linux 2.0.33, gcc 2.7.2.2, libc 5.4.33, shadow, quota on (usr+grp),
and my smb.conf is summarised (by testparm output) below:
Problem is this: with respect to programs not long filename-aware/compliant,
users cannot "double-click" on

Actually no, as I don't have *one* smb.conf.
I'll add three of them (the last three were I had this problem) at the
end of this email.
As you can see they are not exactly identical.

4.1.0 auditing : can't get only wanted vfs operations to log
HI all,
So I'd like to log the user's operations on some shares.
As I need to know who made what when.
I'd read a previous answer from Andrew about auditing, so I can see
loggued operations.
Modified smb.conf :
