legacy database and finder_sql nightmare!
This is my first rails app with a legacy database and I''m having a terrible time getting the models set up correctly. I have an order table that has a primary field named order_number. I have a name table with a primary of item_number. These two tables are liked by the item_number and the order_number, but not as you might think. If the order_number is 2500, then each entry in

Help with mysql_adapter.rb?
Hello all! I''m a newbie to Rails and I''m trying to get things working on an old RH9 box. I was wondering if someone could help me troubleshoot a mysql_adapter.rb error? I set everything up and created a simple test app and then generated a scaffold for it. When I try to go to the main controller and list the data, I get the following error: ArgumentError... ''Series'' Pluralization
Howdy, I have a model I called ''content_series''. I created it and noticed that Rails called it ''Sery'', so I added ''series'' to the uncountable thing in the config, like this: Inflector.inflections do |inflect| # inflect.plural /^(ox)$/i, ''\1en'' # inflect.singular /^(ox)en/i, ''\1'' #

has_many.count not accepting options hash
has_many.count does not seem to support an options hash like ActiveRecord::Base.count does. Example: >> AcademicProgram.find(:first).course_requirements.count :conditions => "courses.name LIKE ''a%''", :include => :course => 40 >> ap.ap_requirements.count :conditions => "courses.name LIKE ''a%''", :include =>

Mongrel and Apache docs?
Any news on the Apache Best Practice Deployment instructions? I''m getting ready to set up a production server, and would prefer to use Apache and Mongrel/Cluster. Don''t think I''ll be able to get the latest Apache though. Do I have to proxy through Pound or something to handle multiple mongrel instances? Any pointers? Any help appreciated, Brett

Confused on URLs to my Rails App
I need a VERY SIMPLE solution to get to my rails app. We have a WHM/Cpanel linux server with numerous virtual servers on it. I have an existing website called www.mydomain.com that lives in /home/mydomain/public_html. I have written a rails app called "test" that is in /home/mydomain/test, and it''s rails "root" is therefore /home/mydomain/test/public. I am an

MySQL connection problems on Dreamhost
To all fellow Dreamhosters out there... Sometimes my app mysteriously loses its connection to the database, resulting in a big ugly "Application Error (Rails)" page. Usually refreshing the page makes it go away, but not today. :-( In production.log I see this: MysqlError (Lost connection to MySQL server during query): Any idea why this happens? It''s rather intermittent

Issue with upgrading to 2.0 on Leopard? Or something else?
Sorry if this has been covered, but I finally decided to upgrade to Rails 2.0 (running Leopard and previously at rails 1.2.6) so I could start using some of the great new features. I ran the usual "sudo gem install rails --include-dependencies" to upgrade and now my development environment is all out of whack. I suspected MySQL, but I''ve already made sure I was using the

MySQL error when running rake migrate
Running rails 1.1 and MySQL 5 on Kubuntu. I moved the same rails project from one machine to another. To set up the database I try to run `rake migrate` but I am greeted with the error/stack trace below. Any idea why this could be? It doesn''t seem to be a permissions problem--I can login to the database as my application just fine. I tried downgrading MySQL to v4.1 because that is

newbie: OSX Ruby/MySQL issue?
I''m three pages into the OnLamp RoR Tutorial [1] and am wrestling with what appears to be a MySQL connection problem. I''ve created a simple controller called "recipe" with a corresponding "recipes" mysql table. The recipe controller is just a simple scaffold. When I browse to "recipe/new", though, I get these errors: == NoMethodError in

I am not sure when it exactly occurred but I have 2 servers I am about to migrate to apache+mongrel from lighty+fastcgi oddly, both my servers seemed to have died at the same time everytime I restart within a 24 hr period ( I don''t know when, my logs don''t show it ). Can someone please point me in the direction of what I need to do to trace the cause of this. Or what you would

Newbie trying to set up rails with MySQL
Hello -- Please pardon my newness -- I''m just getting started with rails, and I''m having some difficulty getting it set up with MySQL. I am able to get the basic ruby server running (script\server). When I created a new page (using script/generate controller about index), I am not able to navigate to the new page, and Ruby either crashes or gives me an error: /!\ FAILSAFE /!\
