[Bridge] My hotmail login issue is fixed!!
Hi All, Today is a great day. My hotmail login error is fixed. Following Peter's advice, I used e1000 card, don't change any MTU , the hotmail login error went away! It is MTU issue, for VLAN tag traffice going through the bridge, the NICs in the bridge need support VLAN tag, e100/e1000 card can. Thanks to Peter, Stephen Hemminger, and All ! So far I know Intel e100/e1000 card can

[Bridge] bridge slow in allowing connection
Hi, I recently upgraded the kernel in my Debian server from 2.4.22 to 2.6.9. This server acts as router and has an ethernet bridge (br0) that combines eth1 and eth2. Each of these two network cards is connected to one Windows PC. Since I booted kernel 2.6.9 it takes more than one minute for a client pc to receive its IP address when that one starts up. I noticed that the kernel messages (shown

[Bridge] Problem Bridging VLANs
Hi bridge list: Bart de Schuymer suggested that this question might be better placed on this list rather than in the ebtables area. So here it is : ================================================================= Hi listers: I am a relative Penquin Newcomer, and I am (therefore?) encountering problems trying to setup a simple bridge/firewall between two vlans sharing portions of the same

Slow Transfers from DOS/LANMAN (again)
A detailed description of our status and dilemma is given below... This week I've been on samba.org and searched the MARC mailing list archives for discussions pertinent to our situation. My search for "slow DOS client" produced over 100 hits dating back to the last millennium, some of which were really about something else. Many of the rest were descriptions of problems VERY

[Bridge] Problem with startup script
I put a bridging firewall together last winter (with some help) and have it= in production in front of a couple windows web and mail servers for going = on 6 months now. I used Fedora C1 with 2.4.22 kernel and 0.9.6 bridge-utils= . The bridge has solved a lot of security headaches. I use a modified start= up script written by David Whitmarsh that has worked really well. http://ww=

[Bridge] slow network performance when using bridged interfaces in 2.6.13 compared to 2.6.12.
(originally filed as a bug in Fedora's bugzilla, see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=171933) Greetings, Using Fedora Core 4 on a Dell PE 420sc. Malfunctioning kernel is smp-2.6.13-1.1532_FC4. Properly functioning kernels included smp-2.6.12-1.1456_FC4. Network performance is extremely poor when using bridged network interfaces. When not using brctl, the interface

I compiled the latest 2.6.19 kernel and tested it with two 3COM 3c905c fast ethernet interfaces which work fine with vlan 802.1q tagging, but when I have added the eth0 and eth1

Slow rsync
Hi, I use rsync (2.4.6) to mirror some directories from two servers to an another server. The mirroring server is RedHat 6.2 with 2.2.15 kernel. The mirrored servers are: RedHat 6.2 with 2.2.14 kernel / RedHat 6.1 with 2.2.14 (smp). All servers are connected to the same switch and the network is 100Mbit/s. All servers have 3Com 905 nics. [Bridge] bug(?) in br_device_event causes kernel panic for 2.6.14
Hi there- I think I have a bug to report :-( I'm trying to setup up a bridge for use with OpenVPN on my Gentoo box- resulting in a lot of fiddling and creating/destroying bridges (mostly to do with me getting things right in gentoos network config scripts.) What I've noticed is that when I create br0, and try and add eth0, it says it's already part of a bridge (it isn't - no

[Bridge] problem with Honeynet Project's rc.firewall script
Hi all, I'm new to the world of bridging and the mailing list but I am hopeful my initial problems are fairly trivial. I am running the Honeynet Project's rc.firewall script at boot time (on my Sparc running Aurora) but the script is having trouble establishing the bridge. In my logs, I have found the following error: tSIOCSIFADDR : No such device eth1: unknown interface: No such
