Problems with svg() exporting graphics with gradients
The R-help listserv deletes most attachments (as security risks) and your attachments (I assume) did not come through. Provide code for a minimal reprex or a site from which those interested in helping can get your plots instead if no one who already knows about this issue responds. You might also try posting on the Posit/ggplot Help site, as someone there may be able to help. Cheers, Bert

R-alpha: nlm and gradients
At present the documentation for nlm refers the reader to Dennis and Schnabel for details on the algorithms. It also states that the function is liable to change. Can anyone tell me if the current version of nlm uses only function values or if it can use gradients and Hessians when they are available? I would like to get an idea of how difficult it would be to port the development versions of

Colour gradients and colour fill between points
Hello, Can somebody help me on a colour question? I have a levelplot made with the following syntax: library(lattice) inp <- read.csv("hoenne1", header = TRUE) levelplot(z~x*y, data = inp, region = TRUE, pretty = TRUE, col.regions = terrain.colours) The file "hoenne1" contains the data. I'll give a short example: x,y,z 0,0,1 0,1,1 0,2,1 1,0,2 1,2,2 0,2,2 1,2,3 2,2,2

Gradients in optimx
Hi Reuben, I am puzzled to note that the gradient check in "optimx" does not work for you. Can you send me a reproducible example so that I can figure this out? John - I think the best solution for now is to issue a "warning" rather than an error message, when the numerical gradient is not sufficiently close to the user-specified gradient. Best, Ravi.

start values for nls() that don't yield singular gradients?
I'm trying to fit a Gompertz sigmoid as follows: x <- c(15, 16, 17, 18, 19) # arbitrary example data here; y <- c(0.1, 1.8, 2.2, 2.6, 2.9) # actual data is similar gm <- nls(y ~ a+b*exp(-exp(-c*(x-d))), start=c(a=?, b=?, c=?, d=?)) I have been unable to properly set the starting value '?'s. All of my guesses yield either a "singular gradient" error if they

creating rainbow gradients
Hi, how can I create a rainbow gradient in R? For example, let's say I have a plot of y = x...and I want the plot to go from red -> orange -> yellow -> green -> blue -> etc. Right now, I know how to do something like go from red to blue, using the plotrix library: library(plotrix) redToBlue <-

Gradients in bar charts XXXX
Hello, I have a graphics-related question: I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to create a bar chart that is colored with a three-part gradient that changes at fixed y-values. Each bar needs to fade green-to-yellow at Y=.10 and from yellow-to-red at Y=.20. Is there an option in a package somewhere that offers an easy way to do this? Attached is a chart I macgyvered together in Excel using a

dashed lines and SVG files devSVG("/folderul/unde/salvez/myplot.svg", width=10, height=10) plot(1:10, 1:10) dev.off()
Dear helpers, I have a question about the SVG device. It works fine, the SVG file is indeed produced, only the graphic differs from the R window. In the SVG file the dashed line is just a regular plain one. My toy example is: library(RSvgDevice) devSVG("myplot.svg", width=10, height=10) plot(1:10) abline(v=5, lty=?dashed?) dev.off() Is there anything more (or different) I should do?

Visio vsd/vdx vs. svg
Tom, I note that you use Visio for your network diagrams. Have you considered placing SVG source in CVS? I believe Visio can import/export SVG now. If you''re not using the newest version, I think the VDXtoSVG project can convert Visio 2002 VDX files to SVG. If you''re using a version older than that, I doubt an acceptable solution is achievable. VDX to SVG

Anyone using AJAX, SVG, and Rails?
I''m interested in the idea of using AJAX and SVG to create a simple diagram editor. It seems like Rails might be able to support this sort of thing, so I thought I''d ask if anyone is doing anything in this direction. -r -- Technical editing and writing, programming, and web development: http://www.cfcl.com/rdm/resume.html Contact information: rdm@cfcl.com, +1 650-873-7841

SVG export - RGB fill
Hello all, I have to export the graph to SVG format. I was able to do that. The problem is that I'm using this SVG file in a XML-FO processor that doesn't support percentages for the rgb color, only absolute numbers. Is there any way I can control it from the R code? Thanks! -- Igor. igorjrr@gmail.com [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Serving static svg images in the public folder
Hi! I am trying to use svg images and serve them from the public/images folder. When using the url_for method I have to use the complete file name including the extension. Can you explain why? I don''t need to use the extension for gifs/jpegs/pngs. Using the complete filename with url_for or writing a direct url to /public/images I can get the file, but the mime type is text/plain, so

FireFox builds with support for OGG Theora / SVG+Video
Although this is old news actually, for those who are interested there are precompiled builds of FireFox 3 with support for streaming OGG Theora in SVG SMIL. Good news for those who just want to see it work without having to patch and compile from GIT. http://www.double.co.nz/video_test/ And for those who just want to see it work without downloading anything:
