Time synchronization problem. Chrony, ntp
My tests:
-Boot a backed up ?new? VM with chrony 4.3 and samba 4.19 installed, joined a new Win 10 machine, time syncs OK with Type: NT5DS.
-Updated DC samba to 4.21.3 without removing the Windows machine from domain. Time syncs OK with NT5DS.
-Leave domain, try to w32tm /monitor -> error can?t reach DCs (expected)
-Join domain again: time syncs OK with NT5DS.
I can?t reproduce.
Can we make

Unix Password Sync
Does unix password sync still work in Samba 4.1.6?
I'm trying to debug setting passwords on a system... I have this in smb.conf
passdb backend = samba_dsdb
passwd program = /usr/local/sbin/passtest.sh %u
passwd chat = *password* %n\n
passwd chat debug = Yes
unix password sync = Yes
My passtest.sh script is very simple...
#!/bin/bash
set -e

samba4 adding an index to sam.ldb
I have a large installation >20k users. We're using samba4 for AD Authentication, and also email address validation. I'm trying to edit the @INDEXLIST in sam.ldb to add an index on otherMailbox to speed up searches (0.05 sec for indexed, vs 2.5 sec for non-indexed searches) I'm finding that when I use ldbedit to do this, it appears to add the additional @IDXATTR. However, when I

Managing Samba4 shares from Windows "Security Tab Missing"
When I try to manage samba shares from windows, I cannot reliably get the Security Tab to show up. I have tried many reprovisions, sometimes it works, sometimes not. I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong.
How the domain is provisioned...
samba-tool domain provision \

--host-name=fs.avails.com \

Cross Router Browsing
Hi, I'm running 2.04b on two RH 5.2 boxes (A + B). The boxes are control
separate domains and have a router in between them. I would like for the
domain controlled by A to show up in browse list on B.
I've tried using remote announce on A to broadcast on the other side of the
router, but domain A does not show up.... It seems to me that WINS (nmbd)
should be able to hold

Cross Domain Browsing (More Details...)
List,
I'm trying to figure out how to get access to remote shares.... I have two RH
5.2 boxes running 2.04b separated by routers (pecan the VIRCIO lmb and shipe
the COMMUNITY lmb)... I turned on remote browse sync to get the browselist
from COMMUNITY onto VIRCIO. The COMMUNITY domain shows up on VIRCIO, but it
is empty...
I don't know, but I think that this could be security

time server = yes
I want my XP clients to update their clocks from my samba server. I
have time server = yes in smb.conf, and running ntpd on the server, but
my clients aren't updating their clocks. I tried running the command
manually logged in as a domain user:
net time /setsntp:10.8.2.3
but it just says "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied".
Any ideas?

Patch to ignore exluded files.
I came up with a patch to fix the problem of IO Errors caused by
excluded files as did Eugene V. Chupriyanov below.
Is there a chance that this change will show up in a future version of
rsync?
Is there a reason that we should not ignore IO errors when copy_links is
off? Just want to make sure that I'm not missing something here that
may corrupt my syncs....
Here's the version that

More on Changing Windows Passwords
Hi yall,
I am having problems using unix password sync. I am able to change the
smbpassword successfully if unix password sync is turned off. However, when I
turn unix password sync on, I get:

on the Windows98 client.
I am using samba 2.0.3 from the samba-2.0.3-19990228 rpm on RedHat 5.2. We

Best Ferrups (bestfcom patch)
Hello,
I have a Best Ferrups 3.1KVA and I noticed that the percent battery voltage reported from upsc never gets above 69.9%. I believe there is a mistake in the driver. The battery percentage is calculated based on the High Battery Alarm Setpoint (59.6V) instead of the Ideal Voltage which is about 54V (4 batteries x 13.6V). I examined the source code and found that the variable fc.fullvolts is

Solution for: "Samba server does not show up in Windows Network Places"
I may have a solution to this problem but would like any advice on the downside of doing this. Essentially, I remove role check in nmbd.c as follows:

using w32tm (WinXP) w/samba3 as DC: can't get DC List
I have a winXP client connecting to Samba 3.09 running as a PDC.
The client machine is joined to the domain and the login box
shows the domain name as the entity I'm logging into.
I don't know if I don't have something set "right" or not, but I
noticed my local clock had drifted about 50 seconds off of the
PDC. I have the windows time daemon running and I've seen it

NTP doesnt work for Win2000 clients + Samba 4.0.4 (see tcpdump)
Hi all,
I am using Samba 4.0.4 as AD DC on my test environment and realized that all my W2k clients (default installation, no special setups made on the clients) cannot receive the correct time of my samba 4.0.4 AD domain controller. Windows XP and 7 work fine though. The problem occurs at three W2k test clients I tried with. The default behavior of Windows clients is to use the update type
