Indexing smb Linux share from Mac
Hi,
More information is needed. What?s in Samba logs? What?s in fscrawler logs? Are you able to see the indexed data with Kibana?
I?d start with making sure fscrawler is able to add data to elasticsearch and that it?s visible and searchable with Kibana. If that works then on to Samba.

Spotlight configuration trouble
Hi Louis,
I used your excellent packages but also tried building from source. I?m trying to get Tracker working. Elasticsearch was simpler to get going but it doesn?t really suite the use case due to limitations in fscrawler.
I actually created the mdssvc user but also tried directly under root once the dedicated user didn?t work. The problem might be somewhere in D-Bus configuration but I

Spotlight configuration trouble
I?m trying to setup Spotlight with Tracker (2.3 from Ubuntu repo) backend in Ubuntu 20.04 and Samba 4.12.7. I?ve followed the wiki closely but every time I try to search I get this in the logs:

Samba vs Windows - File sharing in a domain setting
Hi Louis,
The idea I had with this thread is to just get an honest comparison
between Windows and Samba when it comes to file sharing needs in the
Windows world, the missing Windows Search capability was just an example
to get the discussion going.
If I understand your reference correctly, there is a solution,
compatible with Apple's Spotlight, to index files on a Samba server
using

Samba vs Windows - File sharing in a domain setting
Hai Viktor,
I dont know or can't tell if this setup can use the windows indexing, i havent looked in to that.
I dont use windows indexer.
But i do know if you setup as shown and you add a webpage to the server,
that makes is also usable for Windows users to search.
There was some work done in the area

Spotlight with Elasticsearch
Hi,
Is anyone using Spotlight with Elasticsearch in production and what kind of tweaking have you had to do? Certain search types seem to work out of the box, but others not. Perhaps fscrawler and Elasticsearch need some customization that the wiki doesn?t mention. There also seems to be a difference in using the main search box in the Finder window or the more granular options below, even if

Spotlight indexing with fscrawler for multiple shares
Hey Kees,
fs2es-indexer is designed to be a lightweight alternative to FSCrawler.
So no ... it doesnt do any content indexing or saves much of the metadata.
As far as I understand it the OCR and other stuff makes FScrawler that
big. And we dont need any of that - we just want to search for file names.
BUT Im open for merge requests ;-)
I currently getting away with a lot less complexity

Samba vs Windows - File sharing in a domain setting
I've been working with Samba in an AD domain setting for several years now.
Small potatoes, nothing fancy. A few months ago, I came across the
limitation of Samba, in comparison to file sharing from a Windows server,
that, at the current moment, it doesn't offer an indexing service that is
compatible with Windows Search. So, no matter how much I like Samba, if I
need this feature, I have

Hi Noel,
As we discussed on the list, I busy getting the bits and pieces in place
to be able to test your windows search work.
I am running all my stuff on Debian Bullseye, with Samba code in 3
lxc-containers. Two are for the DCs, one is the fileserver. Everything
is managed by Ansible code, I try to avoid manual changes to my
environment(s) as much as possible. Generally manual changes are

Spotlight indexing with fscrawler for multiple shares
Hi Team,
Did anybody solve the issue of FScrawler crawling over multiple shares,
preferably from a single job or from a single service?
Setting up a service for FScrawler per share does not scale very nice...

Referencing a variable from one class in another
I have one module, kibana, that defines a file snippet for the apache
module to fulfill (e.g., /etc/https/conf.d/kibana.conf). The apache::params
class defines a variable of the path of where this snippet should be
placed, $config_d. The snippet uses this variable in its definition.
However, it seems that the snippet never resolves the
$apache::params::config_d variable, and I''m

Hello,
yes sadly update 8.9 of elasticsearch broke the samba integration. Seems
like 8.10 is still broken. Stay on 8.8 until this is fixed. Ive emailed
Ralph B?hme of Sernet already, but hes got no time for it atm.
Im not sure about the second part of your bug report though:

How to implement Spotlight support using ElasticSearch
Samba 4.12 release notes
<https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.12.0.html> mention "New
Spotlight backend for Elasticsearch" and specify some new parameters for
smb.conf, but there appear to be zero guides or further instructions for
getting this to work.
I'm not even clear how filesystem indexing is supposed to work.
ElasticSearch appears to be simply a searchable

syslog-ng or rsyslog?
Hi All.
I've used syslog-ng for some time. I like it. I have a project in which I
need to choose a central logging solution. What are your experiences with
rsyslog? Is it more complex to setup than syslog-ng? Or maybe does it have
some additional features?
I am also thinking about using some gui tools for log parsing and graphing.
May be proprietary/paid. Any suggestions?
Best regards,

CentOS 7 rsyslog and ELK
I asked a similar question about a year ago and didn't get any answers.
So I thought I'd try again.
What do people do to get their syslog messages on CentOS 7 into a
remote ELK stack. I've tried lots of things involving rsyslog,
filebeat, redis, logstash and so on in lots of different configurations
but nothing really works.
I can get rsyslog to talk directly to logstash (acting as

vfs_fruit & resource forks on macOS
From version 4.10.6 onwards folder icons are not working anymore on macOS. I can see the "._Icon?? file written on disk but seems like Samba isn?t reading it back and presenting it to the client. Is there a change or new setting that is needed on more recent versions, or have I hit a bug? I noticed 4.10.6 had some work done regarding AppleDouble and resource forks.
In the client log I?m
