Performance checks
Hi all, I thought it was a good idea to get an overview of the developments since the release of 1.3.0, so here are a few graphs. The first was compiled with GCC 4.8, the second was compiled with MSVC 2013. Both were tested on a Kubuntu 14.04 machine, with an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (SSE support up to "version" 4.1), the MSVC compiles were run through wine, as I don't think

Wine on Ubuntu 8.10 64bit
Hello I have a complicated question, I'll try to state it in the simplest way I can. I currently have a laptop running Hardy Heron (pure Linux machine). and WINE. It has an AMD 64 bit core but an ATI graphics card. Wine will install PC games just fine, but when I try to run a game (like Tales of Pirates or Guild Wars for example) It will bring up the loading screen, load the game but just as

upgrading 7.5 ==> 7.6
hI ALL! There have been a large enough number of people posting here about difficulties when upgrading from 7. to 7.6 that I'm being somewhat paranoid about it. I have several machines to upgrade, but so far the only one I've dared to work on (least critical if it goes bad) is my new-to-me-but-used laptop. First I did a 'dd' backup of the whole drive onto an external USB drive

Real-world tests (commit 300d17c)
Hi all, I just finished running the scripts I used to write the lossless audio codec comparison that is on the FLAC website. The results are in the PDF linked below. As you can see, compression is exactly the same but decompression is about 15% faster. As expected, all results were lossless. http://www.icer.nl/misc_stuff/FLAC-1.3.0-results.pdf For more information on the used test corpus see

Host does not support virtualization type 'xen'
Hello Community, I successfully installed and run xen (xm list and xm info can output appropriately). However, while I was installing domU image by using virt-install -p at domU OS. I encountered an error information" Host does not support virtualization type ''xen'' ". I built xen from source. Some of my friends have the same issue, but if they use pre-build xen, the

[PATCH] VT-d: remove Xen and tboot range from dom0''s VT-d table
This a step forward to fix the security hole introduced by dom0''s 1:1 mapping VT-d table: remove the critical code and data from it. The more flexible solution is to update dom0''s VT-d table on demand as what will be done for other PV domains. However, there could bring a performance issue even with software optimization. Iotlb flush of some hardware is time-consuming.

VT-x or AMD-V capable machines
Does anyone know how to tell if a machine is VT-x or AMD-V capable before I buy it? I have read some mailing list stuff that even if the processor is capable, sometimes it is disabled in the BIOS, with no way to enable it. I think HP was/is doing this. Can anyone shed some light on the current situation wrt this? Regards, -- Tom Diehl tdiehl at rogueind.com Spamtrap address mtd123 at

Success: VT-d on ASUS P6T
Hi, I''ve successfully used VT-d on an ASUS P6T mainboard which is known to have really buggy RMRR tables. I tested passtrough with: - the onboard (fake-)raid-controller (no problems) - a pci card (no problems) - VGA cards (worked only partly - I''ll investigate that) I wrote a little patch to the code parsing the RMRR tables and enabled the following command line options:
