How to save the user_id in a separate column when using ActiveRecord::SessionStore?
Hi! I''m converting my Rails 3.1 app from cookie sessions to database sessions. I''ve added an extra column on the sessions table to save the user_id. I read the documentation in http://apidock.com/rails/v3.1.0/ActiveRecord/SessionStore and googled but can''t seem to find a way to set the session''s user_id that works. Can someone help? invalidating a session on multiple login
How do I do the following: if a user is logged in, then opens another browser tab and logs in again (either as himself or as someone else), I want to invalidate the session in the first tab and throw up a "logged in from another browser window" screen. RIght now, user1''s session silently becomes a duplicate user2 session instead (from what I understand, sessions are bound to

Replacing ActiveRecordStore::Session with a custom model
Has anyone managed to replace ActiveRecordStore::Session with their own model? In the source (http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/trunk/actionpack/lib/ action_controller/session/active_record_store.rb) it says you can override the default by setting CGI::Session::ActiveRecordStore.session_class = MySessionClass I have tried doing this in a number of ways but I get all kinds of weird errors, as

Agh, this is annoying. Why is this happening?
My problem: Mock ''Task_1005'' received unexpected message :user_id= with (1) No matter what I do to try to stub that out it will still fail out and give me that message. Here is my spec describe TasksController, "handling POST /tasks" do before(:each) do @task = mock_model(Task, :to_param => "1", :save => true)

ActiveRecord-2.2.2, association preloading, joins and order parameter weirdness
Hello RoR Groupies, I''m seeing some weird ActiveRecord-2.2.2 SQL generation when doing eager association/preloading and using joins and ordering by said join table. Here''s an example: class Photo < ActiveRecord::Base end class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :headshot, :class_name => "Photo" end class Mail < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end

Newbie - ActiveRecord relationships
So I''ve worked through Agile Web Development with Rails and I''m now trying my first little app to get into the swing of things. Its a task tracking app where people can create tasks and assign them to others, and also log time against the tasks. I''m having trouble working out the model relationships. This is what I''ve got so far, but its not right as

adding a method to an ActiveRecord Object
I''ve already pulled my object from the database. Now I want to add a method. What I''m doing is adding the username to the activerecord object so I''ll have the name and user_id. How can I do this. The code below fails in the view. It appears it''s overwriting the rest of my object def self.find_with_author(id) @article = Article.find(id)

LoginSystem : make @session available to models
Hello. LoginSystem is cool, it populates the @session instance variable of controllers with many useful info. The fact is : it would be cool to let models know about the session, too. For instance, after_update and after_create callbacks could store *who* did *what* on *what. Aim : having ActiveRecord::Base::session defined, returning the @session of the controller which manipulates the

Session not working in testing mode
Hi, I''m having a problem with my sessions. I recently switched from storing sessions on disk to storing them in MySQL. I ran rake create_sessions_table to create the sessions table. But instead of just using the standard table, I wanted something fancier. I would like to know who is currently logged in, so I added the field user_id to the sessions table. In the Rails wiki

direct sql "delete from"
I was thinking, if I don''t manage to figure out the problem with acts_as_taggable, that I could untag objects via a direct SQL DELETE on the tag join table (something like "where tag_id = tag_to_delete and user_id = current_user"). Are there any dangers to this approach? martin

activerecord connections with xmlrpc
Hi folks, Im trying to use an xmlrpc server and have it serve data using activerecord, but every request seems to eat up a mysql database connection, until I run out with "Too many connections".
