Dovecot and NFS with file locking
Greetings all,
I'm trying to get an understanding of a problem we are facing here.
We're currently running dovecot 1.0-beta3 and have a long standing issue
of system crashes on our mail server (Debian Linux 2.4.27-2-k7-smp).
Here's what is happening:
The machine hangs and the system load climbs as high as 80.0+. Yet, the
system response is not effected. Command line is still

read permission on rotated logs
When logs (e.g. /var/log/maillog) are rotated (e.g. to
/var/log/maillog-YYYYMDD) is there a way via systemd or whatever to
assign read permission to a specific group?
Right now, for example -
ls -l maillog*
-rw------- 1 root root 3105240 Mar 13 22:04 maillog
-rw------- 1 root root 1079031 Feb 24 04:39 maillog-20190224

Unkown namespace / sieve
Hello,
I use dovecot + dspam and a very simple global sieve script :
require "fileinto";
if header :contains "X-DSPAM-Result" "Spam" {
fileinto "SPAM";
stop;
}
with dovecot 1.0 all run fine, but moving to 1.1 I experience this in
maillog :

Are you sure about maillog? I mean:
doveadm log find
gives you that file?

sendmail maillog rotation on centos 4
Hi,
I'm trying to figure out which process is rotating my maillog every
Sunday at 4:03 am. This happens on all of my centos 4 boxes.
AFAICT, logrotate is not running. This is from a fairly minimal
install, so I'm assuming this is a default process.

Namespace subscription issue
I'm a little confused about how public namespaces work with
subscriptions. If I set subscriptions=no and subscribe to the folders,
the subscription entries go into the user's private subscription file
and that's fine. However, I am unable to pull their status with the
LIST-EXTENDED extension.
Normal listing works OK:

namespace subscription problem
Hi all,
my problem seems to be a cosmetic one (again).
According to the docs:
subscriptions: "yes" (default) if this namespace should handle its own
subscriptions. If "no", then the first parent namespace with
subscriptions=yes will handle it.
Therefore is no way to create the following scenario:
three namespaces (private, shared, public)
the private namespace has to

The current documentation makes mention of a "special" subscription
namespace. The example given:

}
namespace inbox {

results in a startup error as both namespaces have the same prefix. Was

permission problem when using public namespace and "subscription = yes"
I have configured an public namespace "Test" for a group of users:

Using each users own subscription file for a public mailbox doesn't
make sense when the mailbox is heavily used. Every directory operation

Non-Existent Log File
My /var/log/maillog was getting pretty big because of lots of testing
and re-configuring I've been doing lately with both Dovecot and
Postfix. I figured just remove /var/log/maillog and it would be
re-created. It wasn't--not by Dovecot, not by Postfix. I had to
manually create a new one, put one character in it, save it, properly
secure it with chmod, and then Dovecot (and postfix)

what this message means?

I just ran these tests on my network and came up with these results.
I found it interesting and thought I would share.

I'm confused about my namespace parms
Hi,
I'm new to the list and to dovecot. I'm having a strange situation that provides
no errors, so I'm having a little problem diagnosing what's going on.
I've been running a Centos 3 mail server with sendmail for our company for quite
a few years. I finally got approval for new servers this year and put Centos 6.2
on it. I'm sticking with sendmail, but that's not

dovecot dictionary attacks
Hi, I been using dovecot for awhile and its been solid, however I been
having some issues with dictionary attacks.
I installed fail2ban and for the most part is working fine. However today I
got another spammer relaying through my server.
Looking at the logs I see the following dictonary attack from 94.242.206.37

dovecot logs to audit.log not to maillog
Hello,
I have a curious phenomenon.
Dovecot logs normally to /var/log/maillog.
If I restart my server, dovecot loggs to /var/log/audit/audit.log.
If I restart dovecot, dovecot loggs to /var/log/maillog again.
And I think, wenn logrotate is restarting, dovecot logs to audit.log.
But I don't know why.
Any Ideas?
greetings Ralf

Dbox lost messages
Hello,
no sieve SCRIPT.
in the maillog say "Stored to INBOX".
I don't have the maillog plugin, I install it now to track future
problems.
But If I backup the inbox all email (also that I cannot see) is in the
mbox file.

Public Namespace & ACL & Virtual Users
Background:
I am wanting to create shared folders (public namespace) with access
control lists on the sub directories.
Our implementation of dovecot (v1.0b7) uses many virtual users and
domains and 1 actual user (vmail), all using maildir. So far I have
successfully created the public namespace (Public_Folders) which every
user can access but I'm having difficulty restricting access using

test emails did not arrive at SMTP server : after dovecot installation
Just set up postfix & it's running on my RHES 4.2 box.
Immediately after postfix is up, I test sending emails from a permitted

which permits Tcp25 from those few sending domains' SMTP servers) using

dictonary attacks
Hi hoping someone can help me a little with this one.
I have 2 mail servers, the incoming mail server runs dovecot and the
outgoing mail server runs postfix with sasl.
Lately I noticed a lot of spammers are running dictionary attacks on my
incoming server and then using that user/password for sasl on the outgoing
server.
The weird thing is I never see on the logs the guessed
