Hello, new to the list
Hello Guys!
I have just joined the list as I needed some clarifications, help etc.
I am not sure what I want is possible and I have been unable to do it
myself,
read lots of dovecot wiki pages, debian lists, dovecot archives,
experimented
myself and so on.
I have a mail dir ~/Mail where all my mails get distributed to their
respective folders
through procmail filters. The heirarchy is as

Convert from mbox to Maildir
Hi Josef,
Just went through this one recently using CentOS with SendMail, Procmail
and IMAP conversion from mbox to Maildir - I needed to make sure I could
run both formats while I migrated users one-by-one.
Not sure if what I did helps, but I created a 'how-to' page on it on my
website rather than post an essay on the e-mail forum:

Getting duplicates despite trying hard to match lock styles
I'm attempting to replace (a) a very old setup that has POP (qpopper)
access to inboxes and a separate UW IMAP server that provides folders,
with (b) a shiny new mail setup with dovecot providing both inboxes
and IMAP support.
For the new mail server I created a virtual machine running a minimal
Fedora 16 installation and installed sendmail, MIMEDefang,
SpamAssassin, ClamAV, procmail, and

Well, I am fond of "old" hardware, which may still be on the wrong side of the
New/Old divide for some of you: DECSYSTEM-20s and VAX 11/780s were the first

newbie questions
Thanks in advance for your patience and assistance. Since a system
administrator's work is most successful when nobody knows you've done
anything....(ugly that...you get neither raises nor equipment funding as
a result), I prefer to learn from other's experiences rather than fail
in the same pits.
We are considering a switch from UW to Dovecot, since our users persist

dovecot Maildir issue
I'm working on switching a domain from a Cyrus+postfix+procmail to
Dovecot+postfix+procmail (using Maildir). It works great, except one
small problem.
I cannot figure out what the permissions for my Maildir directories
should be. Can anyone point me to a doc or just a few pointers on
what the permissions of the Maildirs should be? The only way I seem to
be able to make this config work is to

Dovecot 0.99.11 config
I am at wits end...So far it seems dovecot is light years ahead of UW-IMAP. Glad to have UW-IMAP behind me...well almost.
My setup = Sendmail 8.13.4 with Procmail delivery to /var/spool/mail/<userfile>
openssl 0.9.8
dovecot 0.99.11
I want to continue to use the standard mbox with all the user's mail stored in /var/spool/mail/<userfile>.

Help with complicated heirarchy exclude syntax
I want rsync to do this:
Backup all files under ~/, except in some cases.
When rsync gets to ~/News, which has an extensive, fluctuating and
deep heirarchy of directories under it. An example might be:
News/agent/nntp/news.gmane.org/gmane/comp/lang/perl/beginners/
I want to skip any files that have all numbers for names which would
be under the last directory above. However there are at

locking questions
I have Dovecot 1.0 in trial use by the IT staff, and have some locking
questions
Background, the mail server runs procmail, sendmail and NFS exports the
user homedir and mailbox to a) a login shell host and b) a mailing list
services host. It runs UWIMAP on the usual ports and dovecot on a
arbitrary port number. Because of concern with NFS and file access
contention. I have the following

Multiple mailbox formats, per-user mailbox format support
Hello,
I have a setup where each user has different mailbox
formats (some use only /var/spool/mail/user) mailbox format,
some is stored in mbx format ~/INBOX or ~/mbox and
some is stored in maildir format in ~/Mail/
I currently use UW-IMAP to read /var/spool/mail/... and the mbx format
mailboxes in ~/INBOX and mutt to read ~/Mail/... (the maildirs in ~/Mail/
are created by procmail rules)

Procmail patch for dovecot delivery
Hello!
As discussed in the previous thread about "Dovecot deliver logging
problem and procmail" I have made a small patch for procmail to deliver
through dovecot's deliver program (or any other delivery program).
So Procmail does not write the mailboxes directly any more. So delivery is
done through pipes and an external program which can deliver the files.
Since dovecot's

Can't disable chroot to 'empty' dir, but need to... how to do it?
Hello all...
I've installed dovecot on my ISP's shell server, and am using SSH tunnelling
so that I can retrieve my mbox-format mail from procmail-processed mailboxes
on that server (normally I just ssh there and read them locally with pine,
but now that I have a phone with an IMAP client, I wanted to be able to read
it more easily there).
The problem I'm having is, although it's

So I'm confused as to why you're piping back from procmail to dovecot
LDA, rather than having procmail be the final LDA.
Why not use:
:0 w
* ^List-ID:.*jenkinsci-dev.googlegroups.com
mailing-lists/jenkinsci-dev/
(The trailing slash tells procmail that jenkinssci-dev is a maildir,
not an mbox)
Also, procmail is way out of date, no longer maintained, and there are

Subscribe to root of Maildir namespace?
Our users currently make use of a single namespace, mbox format:
namespace private {
separator = /
prefix =
hidden = no
inbox = yes
location = mbox:~/:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u:INDEX=/var/spool/poptemp/dovecot/%u
}
I'd like to give them access to additional Maildir-format storage area,
so to the above I've added:
namespace private {
separator = /
prefix = archive/

writing an MDA, help me avoid corrupted indexes
Hello.
First, I want to thank those responsible for Dovecot IMAP as it was a
real treat to implement in comparison to my mostly-failed attempts with
Cyrus. The passwd-file authentication was exactly what I needed as I
really didn't want to have to deal with PAM or LDAP but where I am
setting up a server with virtual accounts.
I'm using Postfix as an MTA, and it quite handily passes

procmail --> deliver question
Hi there,
I use dovecot-1.1-rc4, got imap, imaps, pop3 & pop3s working fine with the mbox format.
I use sendmail-8.14.2 as an MTA, sendmail uses procmail as an LDA.
I migrated to maildir format now, and pipe all my mail to deliver right now to be able to make use of the indexing etc...
Problem is I run into some errors :
#My .procmailrc
PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin

Using procmail with virtual users...
Hello all,
I've a working dovecot installation on my machine, using exim3, virtual
users and maildirs.
I would like to add procmailrc rules for these (virtual) users, but i've not
succeeded with that.
The authentication is done with a passwd-file looking like this :
testuser:password:uid:gid::/home/mail/testuser::chroot:maildir:/home/mail/testuser/Maildir/
i've put .procmailrc files
