Bad password when using "map untrusted to domain"
Greetings samba list,
I'm running into an issue when attempting to use "map unknown to domain" on a samba servers bound to my AD domain. When a client maps a share and is not part of the domain, the domain is properly mapped for the user (according to the logs), but the domain controllers report that the password is wrong. I've copied my password out of notepad and pasted it

Dovecot rc23 and rc24 freeze after authentication
I had our production systems running on rc23, however we ran into
problems when the server was under heavy load. Eventually, the
server would begin to freeze all imap connection after authentication
(according to the logs). A user would connect, authentication would
succeed, and then the connection would sit until timing out. No
error logs were produced. Upgrading to rc24 did not

Make domain users/groups available locally through Winbind
Hi list,
trying to add a new DC on my samba AD domain, I noticed that wbinfo
-u/-g was working properly but getent, id and so on commands no.
The new DC is samba 4.1.7 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64.
After digging for a while (the other DC was working properly and the
difference was that was running on a 32 bit machine) I found that when
running `id` command with strace libnss_winbind.so.2 was not

Staged installation fail on some file systems
Thanks for the report.? According to my reading, this use of "mv" is ok
and the renameat2() call which the invocation of "mv" leads to is also
ok and allowed by POSIX in this context. It could only fail with EEXIST
if the target directory (path/pkg) was not empty. So far I've not been
able to reproduce but we could fall back to copy like on Windows.

mv error moving files from local partitiontoocfs2
Thanks. It works!
Besides disabling selinux, we updated to 1.2.5-1 today, since it plays nicer to oracle RAC (installed on the same 2 node cluster) by way of rebooting instead of panicing the kernel when one of the private nics is disconnetcted.
While I'm on that topic, do you know it there is any possibility of telling the ocfs2 daemon which node is the preferred one to kill in a

convert plugin fails - drops root privileges then tries to create file in /
Hi
I just tried to run the convert plugin as described at
http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Convert
(except with mail_location = maildir:~/Mail)
It fails with an error message:
Eopen(/.temp.falcon.endbracket.net.18618.8d5e0a038da6cf06) failed:
Permission denied
Error: imap dump-capability process returned 89
It looks like Dovecot execs /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap, which drops root
privileges

FW: Closing sessions and smbstatus
Perhaps I can ask a slightly different question? Is there some kind of
test I can do on a hung process so I can determine whether it's active
or not, in a script? The output of strace is below but it doesn't mean
much to me I'm afraid. Is there a straight forward difference between
strace for a "real" connection and one of my hung ones that I can use to
manually kill them?

dovecot won't launch
Hi,
I downloaded the latest dovecot (1.0 alpha 3) and tried numerous
installs which get me nothing. No errors, no crashes, no segfaults
and no running dovecot. It just seems to silently exit. I was trying
to build with mysql support but I've also tried a plain old install,
just configure, make install, etc. I get nada. strace doesn't show
anything, at least as far as I can tell.

getent passwd user no output, addc + dm
Hmm.
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnss_winbind.so.2
With samba 4.5
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=samba shows 4.5 in zesty.
Did you recompile?
Please post the output of : winbindd -V
apt-cache policy winbind
or if the 4.5. installed from source, if so, then you have a mixed setup of "source" and deb packages, and that wont work.
If its from source, check for leftovers in

Samba 3.0.4 and DOS 6.2.2 - MSDOS Copy problem
Hello, I am having a problem with Samba 3.0.4 and DOS clients. The
MSDOS COPY command will not work on mapped directories. When I try to
run the COPY command I get an "File not found" error message. This only
happens on DOS, all other OS's work fine.
I have noticed that someone else on this list has also run into this
problem, but no answer/work-around is posted.
Here is my
