Help! Uidlist files are gone and won't come back; imap keeps coredumping!
Folks -
Some time ago as I migrated to dovecot 1.0, I ran into all sorts of problems with file locks, and I tried various solutions. Apparently, in the process, I got a bit careless and removed all my dovecot-uidlist files. They're gone.
My understanding, however, is that they should come back, but this doesn't happen.
I've been forced to run with index=MEMORY in 1.0 for

Dovecot index issues (Solaris/Thunderbird)
Folks -
My setup is that my mail is filed (by procmail) in ~/.mail/Maildir, an NFS filesystem. But I'm running Dovecot (1.0alpha5) on my local machine (as myself on port 2143), just to serve this mail to my browser (Thunderbird 1.0.2).
The NFS data is on a netapp which seems to be creating .nfs files LIKE CRAZY. I expect these are the remnants of lock files, so I'm trying to move my

Subfolders of Inbox with LAYOUT=fs
We've just converted to LAYOUT=fs. Some users had subfolders under Inbox,
and for those users some MUAs no longer show those folders.
The directory structure is that the cur, tmp and new folders are in the
'location' directory, but the subfolders are in
$location/INBOX/$foldername.
I am suspicious of this:

Sorry, quick messages without clue.
Here we use roaming profiles, with quota, and thunderbird.
Thunderbird put IMAP Cache and global search index (ImapMail and
global-messages-db.sqlite) in 'roaming' folder, while they are cache,
so can be put in 'local' folder, out of roaming part.

OT: Migration from Evolution to Thunderbird (Thunderbird mbox files)
Background is that I have been using Evolution for my MUA for a number
of years. Migrated to Evolution from Mozilla Mail. I only use Evolution
for email and contacts. Getting bored with the issues (frequently not
being able to exit and needing to kill it; Bug Buddy popping up in
GNOME, etc) that Mark (MHR) and I and I'm sure others have experienced.
About 24 hours ago, I installed

Dovecot strange behaviors on Solaris
Folks -
I've been using Dovecot for some time now, but have only recently upgraded
to 1.0alpha4. I'm struggling to get my configuration right and I'm seeing
some truly bizarre issues.
My Setup: Solaris 2.8 / Thunderbird / Procmail / Dovecot 1.0alpha4
My mail setup is only for me, so Dovecot runs at an odd port and under my
userID. All my mail is in my home directory, which

Folder layout after Cyrus to Dovecot migration
# dovecot --version
1.2.15
We're trying to migrate a server from Cyrus to Dovecot, and we're mostly
there.
On Cyrus, the folder layout in the MUA is:
INBOX
subfolder
subfolder
...
Sent
Drafts
Queue
Trash
Users cannot create sibling folders to the Inbox, only subfolders (and
sub-subfolders, etc). We've replicated that with:

selecting files from different subdirectories
Hi
I would need to synschronize some Netscape stuff to a server ("roaming
profiles" are not included anymore in the recent versions of Netscape).
In particular I'd like to synchronize bookmarks, address book and mail
filters.
So I need to synchronize ONLY the following three files (that are in the
mozilla directory work/mozilla) to the remote server (in the directory

wine creates weird pref file for mac program
i recently installed wine and now find that with a regular mac program (a
music program called sing&see) it somehow gloms onto it and screws it up so
it opens but won't do anything--and there is a "wine" menu item next to the
regular sing&see menu. i've uninstalled wine as per the directions in the
wiki. but it keeps somehow still recreating a pref file in the library

more on Re: wine creates weird pref file for mac program
just to follow up, i should say i haven't the faintest idea how this
works. i was prompted to install wine while downloading a minor program
form the web and just clicked "ok." i now see on the forum that it's all
very complicated and there's all sorts of setup to properly install wine.
which of course i didn't do. i dont' really need it and just want it gone,
but

Loud pop at the end of messages causing level problems
Hi everyone, I've set up a little Asterisk system with a Digium TDM400P and
everything works splendidly except for the messages callers leave. Every
message that a caller leaves is very faint. I've already set volgain=6.0 in
voicemail.conf, and that seems better, but to be at a good volume I estimate
I may need to go up to 40.0. Is that reasonable?
One interesting artifact is that at
