pre-1.0.rc6 / index file problems? try this
People who have had "duplicate header extension" and whatever other random index file corruption problems, please see if this fixes anything: http://dovecot.org/list/dovecot-cvs/2006-December/007315.html The change is also in the latest nightly snapshot (http://dovecot.org/ nightly/dovecot-latest.tar.gz). You could in general treat the latest snapshot as "pretty much the

How Can I Tell How Dovecot Was Installed?
I'm trying to help someone with Dovecot, and it looks like this one is a few versions behind. They say that they're not sure if it was installed Via an RPM or a source tarball. Dovecot is use MySQL. This is a RHEL5 server. There are RPMs listed as installed (rpm -qa) but I don't know how I can tell what was used to install the currently used set up. (also asking on the Postifix list)

RC16 is a lot slower that RC7
I tried RC16 from RC7 and like other releases since RC7 it is significantly slower. I'm still trying to figure out why. But I have again switched back. Do new version take up a lot more ram perhaps? I'm running with a gig of ram, and I'm running a few other apps. It's not a fast computer, just an old 754 pin semptron. But the point is that RC7 runs a lot faster than RC16.

1.0 beta1 released
As promised, here it is finally. v1.0 is getting nearer and I want people to start looking at Dovecot's sources. Getting some more help with development would be nice, but I'd also like to hear if there are any hidden bugs in the code. So, one week from now I'll start offering 1000 EUR for the first person to point out a remotely exploitable security hole in Dovecot. See

Something other than dotlock for uidlist locking?
If I read the code correctly, only dotlocks are supported for locking of dovecot-uidlist. And I don't see any settings in the config file for it. As it turns out, dotlocks are very slow on my system, due to their implementation via hardlinks. Would it be possible to support other locking mechanisms for locking of the uidlist file? -jdb

compiling dovecot-sieve
Our server is an CentOS4.4 box and we use the atrpms built RPMs for installing dovecot. I am wanting to use the sieve plug-in so I've followed the dovecot wiki instructions, downloaded the files from CVS, but I'm not sure what configure options to use. When I try without any options I get: dovecot-config not found from /usr/src/dovecot-sieve, use --with-dovecot=PATH to give path to

Corrupted index cache files
I see these errors more often than I'd like from Dovecot-1.1.2 on Mac OS X 10.5.4 (names and numbers elided): Corrupted index cache file %s: Corrupted virtual size for uid=%d: %d ! = %d Corrupted index cache file %s: Broken virtual size for mail UID %d Corrupted index cache file %s: used_file_size too large How bad are these? What should I look for to find out why they happen? Other

Error "make install" of dovecot 1.0b3
I just downloaded dovecot 1.0b3 and running "make install" gives me an error This seems like a fairly simple bug in the Makefile ... but I'm not sure if maybe its a symptom of something more complex. I've tried "make uninstall" , "make install" and removing the entire /usr/local/lib/dovecot tree and same thing. dovecot does run ... but for other reasons

OS X Mail Administration
I'd like to request some feed back from any OS X Mail Admins on the list, please. Currently running 10.4.9 here using postfix / dovecot and I'm about to take the plunge from mbox to maildir. I just migrated from uw-imap to dovecot. As you're aware, users inbox's are customarily stored in /var/mail/% username and personal folders under /Users/%username/Library/Mail/IMAP.

dovecot-auth file descriptor usage
In dovecot-auth (rc15) we experienced problems when the file descriptors reached 256 (due to a Solaris fdopen() call described previously). The issue was that there was one file descriptor being used for every imap-login and pop3-login process (in our environment of SSL-only that means one for every active IMAP and POP connection). Mods were made (and appear in rc16) to close out the descriptor

dovecot forward multipart problem
Hi, I experience problems everytime i forward a mail (basically, when forwarding an email containing an attachement). I'm using thunderbird (it does the same with outlook clients) with the forward parameter "as attachement" instead of "inline". (Using the inline parameters works fine). When i forward a mail with attachements (eg a jpeg file), the attachements file is

PostLogin Scripting issue
Trying out the post-login scripting Timo added recently. Wanting to run a SQL query, as detailed in the example on the Wiki. However, my "USER" env variable is set to "OK" instead of the username. DOVECOT_VERSION=1.0.rc16 RESTRICT_GID_FIRST=127 USER=OK All the other variables (MAIL, HOME, etc) are fine with the correct username. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks, -c

mountpoint_get broke the quota plugin
Looks like the new mountpoint_get code broke the quota plugin. I am getting this error when trying to start dovecot, using last night's CVS on Red Hat ES3: # service dovecot start Starting Dovecot Imap: Edlopen(/usr/lib/dovecot/imap/lib01_quota_plugin.so) failed: /usr/lib/dovecot/imap/lib01_quota_plugin.so: undefined symbol: mountpoint_get Error: imap dump-capability process returned 22784
