dovecotpw missing (2.0.8)
Hello, I just installed dovecot version 2.0.8 from the source tarball. After doing ./configure, make, and make install, I don't have the dovecotpw binary anywhere. It is not in /usr/local/bin or /usr/local/sbin where the other binaries are; I also did a find / for it and don't see it. Is there some configuration flag I'm missing? I read the flags in ./configure --help and nothing

memory limit
Hi, I get an error saying " Cannot allocate vector of size 71289kb". So I tried to increase memory by memory.limit(size=3000000000), I also tried other numbers. Each time I get the message NULL and then I still get the same error as above. I'm using Windows 2000. The system has 1G RAM, and 1.6GHz processor. I was only running R, and was trying to do use a BioConductor package. I

Permission denied
Hello all, I'm a new user of dovecot and I've got a permission denied problem. I've read the VarMailDotLock wiki paper but there is still a security problem. If I enter : chmod a+rwxt /var/spool/mail it works but I think it's very dangerous to have thaht rights. So I've tried to edit the dovecot.conf file and to change the mail_extra_groups = mail and to change the rights :

dsync: assert panic on mbox // no INBOX sync on hybrid mbox/maildir
Hi, replying to my own issue: The dsync crash seems to be triggered when there are emails to copy in both directions, and it's fairly clear from comments in the code that it should be releasing a read lock before trying to grab a write lock. A work-around for the crash was doing a one-way sync manually. This allowed the process to complete and my setup is now replicating properly. I guess

Newbie Q: Setting up under linux: Spool directory.
I am trying to set up dovecot under linux. (RH9 if it matters). I'm having trouble having it find the mail that is already delivered. What I would like is that mail is delivered by fetch mail to /var/spool/mail/mclay (that me) then have dovecot find it. I'm sure that I have not set the dovecot.conf file correctly. The documentation is unclear as to what "mbox" is and

dovecot newbie question about "invalid key" problem
Hello list, I've trying to migrate a small uw-imap server to dovecot. It works somewhat, and speed seems greatly improved, so thats great. However, I get an "invalid key/Internal Error" problem when connectiong to my INBOX with thunderbird. According to google this is a well known problem with mozilla mailers. Dovecot is not lenient with this bug in thunderbird. Is there some

Public namespace permissions documentation/questions
Hello Timo, In my trials to setup a shared namespace with dovecot-1.1.8/LDAP passdb/userdb (prefetch)/Maildir, I found out that : 1) ACL are mandatory (at least if the acl plugin is triggered in dovecot.conf) Am I correct ? I'm still not sure if we can do without ACL at all (only with unix permissions and system_user userdb extra field). 2) the system_user userdb extra field is

Upgrading from 1.4.21.2 to 1.6.0.5 breaks sql queries with backslashes?
Hi, all. I've been searching google, bug reports and forums and have looked in all the asterisk-users list archives back to 2003 but haven't seen an answer to this, so thought I'd post here. The problem seems to be that Asterisk 1.6.0.5 is sending backslashes (needed to escape commas and so forth in 1.4.21.2) as *literal* backslashes to Mysql, so that Mysql gives a syntax error

dsync: assert panic on mbox // no INBOX sync on hybrid mbox/maildir
Hi, This (hopefully!) might be a case of user error, as I'm new to dovecot... Alternatively it might be some confusion in an index, since I've been mucking about trying different things in my configuration files and had frequent crashes. I'm trying to sync 2 (LAN) hosts, ideally to have full automatic replication happening. They both have hybrid mbox INBOX and maildir++ folders,

problem copying directory from local machine to server
Hello, I'm trying to populate a directory on a server from a local directory, but I'm running into the problem that rsync doesn't find any files to transfer. I think maybe I'm missing something about how rsync works. The command I'm using is: rsync -vr --numeric-ids --dry-run / rsync.host.com::lvs_server_v1 (where rsync.host.com would be the real hostname of my rsync

stability?
Hi, I'm having trouble figuring this out from any of the documentation or website pages: is dovecot v1.0 considered to be stable, or is it still testing/beta? If the latter, is there any timeline for a "stable" release? Thanks, Kristina

How to compile glibc with clang/llvm?
Hi. Actually from reading the README, it seems to imply that it can be built with Clang 6.0.0 and above now, though it does incorporate a lot of patches not specific to Clang building so you will end up with them as well: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BUILDING GRTE WITH CLANG GRTE v5 and later can also be built with clang and (optionally) lld. Dovecot migration via dsync : mail_location problem (INBOX) ?
Hello, I'm trying to migrate mail accounts from an old dovecot 1.0.15 to a new dovecot 2.2.26. I've set up a master-user on old dovecot, and I run dsync on new server, like this : # doveadm -D -o mail_fsync=never sync -R -u user at domain.tld imapc: my user at domain.tld looks like this (on the new server): # doveadm user user at domain.tld field value uid 2000 gid 2000 home
