Problems running programs compiled unter Centos 5 on Centos 4 machines
I know this is quite a handwaving, stupid question, but I don't know
where else to ask it and maybe somebody here can at least point me
into the right direction, because I'm stuck.
I have a program package that were using here (OpenFOAM for those who
know it). My problem is that when I compile and link this package on
CentOS 5, it won't run on CentOS 4.x-machines but stops with a

v3.0.0, AD, 2k3 mumbles
I'm running a Samba 3.0.0 server in production in security = ADS mode
against a W2k ADS server. Works just fine, thanks!
We're sort of under pressure to regrade to a 2003 AD server, which sent
me trying stuff out a bit. Meager results. The 3.0.0 I have (linked
with MIT krb5-1.2.8) refuses to verify incoming tickets:

INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox
Hi,
I was wondering whether anybody has managed to get Dovecot 1.0 to store
INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox.
I've tried something like
default_mail_env =
mbox:/folders/user/mail:INBOX=maildir:/inboxes/maildir/user:INDEX=/indexes/user
but it doesn't seem to work (treats INBOX as mbox).
I'm hoping to move some INBOXes from mbox on local disk to Maildir on
nicely-mirrored NetApp

debian and cran2deb name clashes
Dear all
Recently I noticed that there are name clashes between the packages
proposed in the Debian testing repos and cran2deb. For example,
Synaptic proposes to upgrade from xtable
1.5-6-1cran1 (cran2deb, up-to-date CRAN version) to
1.5.5-1 (testing, older version).
Is there anything that can be done about these clashes?

Dovecot 2.1 mbox + maildir
What syntax is needed to make this work?
The 2.0 wiki recomendations don't work - I can see the inboxes or the
folders but not both at once and there are lots of error messages about
prefix clashes if I simply use the existing 2.0.20 conf file on 2.1.6
The layout I have is:
Inboxes in mbox format - /var/spool/mail/%u
Folders in maildir format - /var/spool/imap/%u/Maildir/

trouble accessing mbox folders with simultaneous logins
Hi all!
I have setup dovecot (RPM) on a Fedora Core 2 machine using LDAP for
authentication. It all seems to work pretty well, except for
simultaneous logins. I am using mbox files to store the mail as follows
(from /etc/dovecot.conf):
default_mail_env = mbox:~/.mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u:INDEX=MEMORY
So the INBOX file is stored in /var/mail, other mailfolders are stored
in the users

creating namespaces outside packages
Hi
I would like to use namespaces outside packages, but I could not find
any references on how to do it (only a thread [1] which says "use a
package"). Using a package is not possible in my case, as I am passing
variables from org-mode / emacs to R and would like to avoid name
clashes. This is a dynamic process, and each time the code is evaluated,
the variable can be different.
I am

Samba 2.2.4 frequent mangled names clashes
Hi all,
while working with Netbench I've discovered that mangled directory names
clash rather frequently with Samba 2.2.4:
If I take an NT box, open the cmd prompt and make the following
directories on a Samba share, client100 and client121, both mangle to
CLIEN~GH.
If I create directories client100 through client130 I see 11 clashes
altogether:
CLIEN~GH: client100 client121

Enabling yum-repo on fly?
Dear all,
Is there any way to enable a particular yum-repo (like: yum --
enablerepo=<repo_name>), which is disabled as default, for a
particular package installation? For our system, we need to "dag" for
particular two packages but keeping it always enabled, clashes with
other packages, which we don''t want to install for dag at all. What''s
the option(s) I have to

Functions with the same name: best practices
Ok, here's another best practices question - let's say I'm writing a
package and I want to use a function name that is already claimed by a
function in the base R packages. For the sake of argument, let's
pretend this function is for profiling the performance of a function
(like Rprof for example), and so an obvious name that comes to mind is
profile. This, of course, clashes

newton.method
Hi,
Is this method broken in R? I am using it to find roots of the following
function:
f(x) = 2.5*exp(-0.5*(2*0.045 - x)) + 2.5*exp(-0.045) + 2.5*exp(-1.5*x) - 100
It is giving an answer of -38.4762403 which is not even close (f(x) =
2.903809e+25 for x=-38.4762403). The answer should be around 0.01-0.1. This
function should converge..
Even for a simple function like f(x) = exp(-x) * x, it gives

Using mbox INBOX with Maildirs?
Thanks for everybody's tips on the mbox to maildirs
converter. I was unaware that Maildirs was a common
format not specific to dovecot, so I was searching
using a dovecot keyword.
I'm having this problem now with inboxes. I want to
use maildirs, but my mail is delivered to an mbox. I
can't seem to get dovecot to recognize the inbox
location. Is something like:

How to pull /var/mail mbox leftovers to Maildirs?
I just got my preferred postfix+dovecot(-1.1.1) configuration working on
Ubuntu 8.04 server. Users and Maildirs migrated, etc.
I wasn't seeing inbound mail (in the email client) until I set:
sudo postconf -e 'home_mailbox = Maildir/'
Which I hadn't needed in the previous server's main.cf
I have a few hours worth of inbound mostly-spam in /var/mail/(username)
during the time

Increase transparency: suggestion on how to avoid namespaces and/or unnecessary overwrites of existing functions
aDear list,
I'm aware of the fact that I posted on something related a while ago,
but I just can't sweat this off and would like to ask your for an opinion:
The problem:
Namespaces are great, but they don't resolve certain conflicts regarding
name clashes. There are more and more people out there trying to come up
with their own R packages, which is great also! Yet, it becomes

[RFC] Change DEBUG() macro to LLVM_DEBUG()
Hi all,
We recently stumbled upon some issues with the DEBUG() macro being
redefined in some internal libraries and some external ones, such as
LLVM. After trying out a few ideas to avoid the problem we thought that
the simplest solution would be to prefix all generic macro names in
order to avoid clashes.
A quick search showed that Mesa had a similar issue with DEBUG being
used by LLVM and

[LLVMdev] test suite 'owner'
Hi,
I have found it necessary to make some changes to the test-suite for the XCore platform.
These changes include:
altering #includes, as supported by XCore;
using stdout or stderr to make the output diffs consistent (fixing expected output too);
(This work is still under review as best way to do it)
'fixing' symbol and type problems e.g name clashes & scope;

mbox, hierarchical folders/folders and IMAP
Hello,
I'm now dealing with funny problem. I try to use Dovecot (2.1.rc1,
actually) and mbox format to store old mailing, to keep logic of "one
folder = one file".
If I'd choose Maildir, I'd be able to create hierarchical folders (like
"OldMail -> Maillists -> Dovecot"), and in fact on disk such a folders
would be stored as real folders with dots in
