live upgrade and xvm...
Hi,
I have an x86 box with two boot disks. Each disk contains a BE,
and I upgrade from one to the other. When trying to do a lumake
from 75 to 76, and again from 76 to 77 I have the following error
from lumake:
ERROR: The system must be rebooted after applying required patches.
Please reboot and try again.
ERROR: Cannot make the boot environment.
I only get this error if I''m

24-bit audio?
According to
http://flac.sourceforge.net/format.html#metadata_block_streaminfo :
"FLAC supports from 4 to 32 bits per sample. Currently the reference encoder
and decoders only support up to 24 bits per sample. "
This is why I'm confused. I though one of the benefits of FLAC was it's
ability to encode in word lengths longer than 16 bits.

the road to 1.0...
This is a fantastic selling point, and one that I've never really thought
of.
Back in the early days of etree (a whole three years ago ;) ), before we
learned the virtues of MD5 sums for SHN downloads, I downloaded a Hornsby
show from someone. Of course, an MD5 wasn't available, but when I
decompressed and Shoren didn't throw a sanity error my way, I figured all
was well. I burned

flac-1.0.3_beta released
Which plugins do you mean? I thought I remember Winamp, for instance,
being able to do word-length reduction on the fly. The only place I
can find this feature is in the Monkey's Audio codec plugin, though.
Anyway, great news Josh! Thanks for making 24-bit audio support in FLAC a
priority. :)

Startup errors
I just finished setting up a test Dovecot server (1.0-rc15, Solaris 10)
and noticed upon start of Dovecot (after rebooting the server) that the
imap-login and pop3-login processes spew errors as follows, which I can
only assume is due to the fact that dovecot-auth has not fully initialized
yet... it seems to me that these login processes are getting started too
early, or should at least be

First, thanks to everyone for putting in their time to make the first
truly "free" lossless audio codec. I'm co-founder of etree.org, the
largest online community of lossless audio traders (currently 12,000
active members). We have been living in the shadow of Shorten for almost
three years. Shorten, as most of you have come to realize, is extremely

Timed Out or Disconnect Errors on emails with attachments
Hello all,
I've migrated our Maildir system from Courier-IMAP-SSL to Dovecot with
SSL and now we're getting "Connection to <server> Timed Out" errors when
sending mail with attachments. The mail gets sent, however it doesn't
save the mail in the user's "Sent" folder.
Our IMAP and SMTP servers are different. So the client sends to the

Deleting deleted eMails
Hello 2gether,
I am using Dovecot 1.0.rc15 together with Outlook (I apologize) via IMAPS.
Now I discovered, that all the old eMails, I marked for deleting, are still
there, even the veeery old ones. Dovecot is marking the eMails (I am using
maildir configuration) files with an "ST" extension. Is there any switch to
turn on garbage collection and maybe a screw to tune the duration until

I'm moving this over to flac-users...
Anyway, are you using Mike Wren's installer? I'm not familiar
with that yet.

Moving maildir folders between different RC dovecot machines
Is it ever necessary to delete any of the dovecot files when moving between
machines from different RC versions?
I read all the RC notes from RC15 to 31 and didn't see any notes about
this, but wanted to be completely sure.
Have some domains that I need to move from a RC15 machine to a RC29 machine.
Also later this month we plan to ugprade from RC15 to Release 1.. when it is
out shortly.

the road to 1.0...
First of all, this is my first post so please go easy if I'm a little
off-topic. Just let me know nicely off-list. Thanks!
As Mike already knows, I am currently trying to develop a plug-in for
playing Shorten files over Audion on the Macintosh platform. When I
proposed this to him to get some information on contacting the right
people, he mentioned you guys and I need a little info.

Dovecot Cyrus query
Hi All,
I have a client that is currently using cyrus but wants to use dovecot
(1.0.rc15) sasl authentication.
Is it possible to have the sasl authentication without having the

new SEEKTABLE block
I've checked in code that supports a new metadata block called
SEEKTABLE. Basically, it is an optional, arbitrarily-long list
of seek points, by sample number and stream offset. I also added
command-line options to flac so you can specify seek points by
specific sample number and/or a specific number of evenly-spaced
seek points. The table cost about 18 bytes per seek point.
This seems to

24-bit audio?
Using the FLAC frontend with flac v1.0.2, I tried to encode a recently
recorded 24-bit mono wav to flac, but received the following error:
options: -P 0 -b 4608 -m -l 12 -e -q 0 -r 0,6 -R 0
gpt2002-06-01mono.wav: ERROR: unsupported bits per sample 24
So, I tried to encode a stereo 24-bit wave file... same error.
I'm using the .exe of flac v1.0.2 under Windows 2000. The wave files can be

flac-1.0.3_beta released
Awesome, I'm psyched for 1.0.3.... the ID3v1 winamp2 support will be a
neat addition, as is the faster decodes. Will 24-bit audio play nice with
the final public version of 1.0.3?

leaking file descriptors? imap-login: inotify_init() failed
Even though the system is configured to allow a large number of open
files, and tools such as lsof tell me dovecot is within that limit; I am
seeing errors like this pretty frequently.

dovecot + exim + verify recipient / reject bad recipient at SMTP time
hello,
I'm quite new to dovecot. My instalation is working good
Debian Etch
- exim: 4.63-17

I'm using virtual user setup, with LDA delivery method. There is no database backend at this

Is there any way to configure exim to reject non-existing user /asking dovecot lda/

dovecot-1.0.rc15 with quota-rewrite on FreeBSD
Hello,
I tried to compile dovecot rc15 from the sources with the quota-rewrite patch (http://dovecot.org/patches/1.0/quota-rewrite.diff) on FreeBSD 6.1, but the compilation stop with the following errors.
I am not very good in coding, so if you could fix the patch for FreeBSD it will be great.
