mail archive
I'd like to download a complete mail archive so that I can browse
for problems concerning Mulberry. Is this possible, or can I only
get them in monthly gulps?
Cheers,
Terry.

dovecot-shared tries to fchown index+control files but fails
I have some public mailboxes setup in 1.0.0,
location =
maildir:/egr/mail/shared/org:CONTROL=%h/Maildir/dovecot/public/control/org:INDEX=%h/Maildir/dovecot/public/indexes/org
I also have a dovecot-shared file in the maildir folders so messages that are added
to the inbox get a decent set of default permissions. However, I think dovecot is also trying
to fchown the index files (stored in a user

Always 'new mail' false notifications?
Hi,
I just yesterday played around and installed dovecot. I like it a lot
(except for the lack of mysql support), but I have one issue I can't
seem to fix.
I am using mutt as my mailclient and mutt will alert me whenever new
mail has arrived in any mailfolder I have configured.
The thing is, that mutt continously signals me of new mail in all my
folders, when in reality nothing has entered

open-folder limit
Is there a way to limit the number of folders a user can
have open simultaneously? I seem to remember a config option
which would only permit one imap process per user, and would
share this between his folders, but I cant find anything
relevant in the docs now. Am I talking nonsense here?
I'm new to Dovecot.
Cheers,
Terry.

Bug report: "doveadm rename" encodes special characters wrongly in mUTF-7 (in fs)
Hello there,
I'm pretty sure I found a bug in latest Dovecot 2.2.5.5 (EE) when playing with the doveadm command.
Naturally renaming a users mail folder should be done via "doveadm es consistent.
So when using "doveadm rename" trying to rename a folder with special characters e.g. german umlauts like "??" it seems to create the folder wrongly in the filesystem.

question: dovecot lda running as special user (vmail) or normal user (marcel)?
Dear Mailing List,
(version and dovecot -n at the bottom)
(Sorry for the bad English in this mail :) )
I'm new to dovecot and wanted to build my own mailserver using
dovecot+postfix.
I currently have a Problem with Permissions with my mailfolder.
I could solve it easily if i set it with chmod to 777. but thats no real
solution.
While reading my log files i see a lot messages like:

imap + unmounted home disk
dovecot 0.99 still (RHEL4), I'm sorry to say.
The config is for mbox's to live on the user's home disk.
If the user tries to make an imap connection when
his home disk is unmounted, various permission denied
messages are logged, as expected, but then the imap
process seems to hang around instead of aborting.
The result is that eventually the imap process
limit is reached, and even

support for UW-style mbox
Hi,
The dovecot docs say that support for the automatic appending
of /var/spool/mail to a ~user/mbox (as is done by UW-IMAP) may
be implemented in the near future. Is this still the case?
And if so, is it far off?
Cheers,
Terry.

ext3 usage guidance
Is there a document anywhere offering guidance on the optimum
use of ext3 filesystems? Googling shows nothing useful and the
Linux ext3 FAQ is not very forthcoming.
I'm particularly interested in:
1. The effect on performance of large numbers of (generally) small files
One of my ext3 filesystems has 750K files on a 36GB disk, and
backup with tar takes forever. Even 'find /fs -type

shared folder
The dovecot wiki says:
The only way to implement shared folders with Dovecot 0.99.x is to
create a "shared userid" which all of the users log in to read mail.
Does this mean that folders owned by that shared uid can be
*simultaneously* manipulated by multiple users logged in to
that shared uid?
This doesnt seem to be the case on my dovecot-0.99.11-4.EL4
system, and before

Dovecot Version 1.2.12 Slow IMAP LIST Question
We are using Dovecot 1.2.12, FreeBSD 8.1 Stable, & SquirrelMail 1.4.21
Our problem is that SquirrelMail works fine inside our Network, but from the
outside SquirrelMail times out before it can display the inbox contents.
SquirrelMail times out for everyone, all of the time.
In troubleshooting we have observed the following:

quota-warning: possible to have size also?
Hi,
I'am using a Maildir++ based quota setting which creates a maildirsize file in every Maildir. The first two lines of this file are the maximum quota in bytes then the actual consumption in bytes and number of messages, like so :
1073741824S
379317999 5169
This means this user has a quota of 1Gb and he is using ~ 379 Mb (you have to divide by 1024 to be more precise)

quota-warning: possible to have size also?
Hello Community,
My dovecot setup works fine with quotas and quota-warning.
I have a questions though: when running the warning script, the example
foundis it possible to pass the *quota size *as argument also? This
would be useful with per-user quota.
e.g. /some/script xx% username *xxxbytes* (order is not relevant of course)
Thank you for your help.
Cheers

BUG: cannot move messages to root mailfolder in namespace "There can be only one namespace with inbox=yes"
Hi Martin,
Thanks for the reply. I got the error below, but when I changed the
prefix in 4archives to Archive/ I am getting indeed something that is
looking ok, I still have to test with a few clients. Why did you call
the namespace 4archives? Because it would load before inbox? Or does
this not matter at all.

BUG: cannot move messages to root mailfolder in namespace "There can be only one namespace with inbox=yes"
Hi,
this setting might work. The default namespace "inbox" is managing
INBOX and defines Special-Use folders on the same hierarchic level as
INBOX. There is an extra namespace "4archives" which defines Archive as
a mailbox on the same level as INBOX but stored on a different
location. Set mailbox attribute auto to your liking.
