v1.1 plans
I think I won't do any actual releases until it's mostly feature
complete. Then maybe v1.1.alpha1 or v1.1.beta1. So if you want to test
it before then, use CVS or the nightly snapshots.
I'm planning on keeping v1.1 almost completely compatible with v1.0.
There could be some minor configuration file changes, but for most
people v1.0's dovecot.conf should work with v1.1.
I want to

v1.0.0 released
http://dovecot.org/releases/dovecot-1.0.0.tar.gz
http://dovecot.org/releases/dovecot-1.0.0.tar.gz.sig
It took almost 5 years, but it's finally ready. I'm not expecting to
release v1.0.1 anytime soon, unless someone's been sitting on a major
bug just waiting for v1.0 to be released. :)
People wanting new features should start testing the upcoming v1.1.

dovecot-stable branch
To confuse Dovecot versioning even more, I've added "dovecot-stable"
module into CVS. This is a version of Dovecot before the recent keyword
changes but with several bugfixes backported to it. It's thought to be
mostly stable.
I intend to keep it updated with important bugfixes and with other
simple bugfixes. Although I'm not sure if I'll make a large code base
upgrade

Maildir configuration vs ZFS and snapshots...
I have a little tricky issue around here. First some background:
Every user is assigned their own ZFS filesystem, and it's mounted as
/home/USER with a Maildir inside it. The there is a filesystem snapshot
(read-only) taken automatically every day by the system. The idea is
to allow users easy access to backup copies of their mail so that they
can restore things themself..
For example this

Debian revisions and policy comments [signed]
I've just been trying to catch up with the posts already so figured
I'd just start another thread as it seemed I would address things from
multiple emails. I really need to get my sieve filter script updated to
move the list emails into the proper folder now I guess :)
We can play with the revision of the packaging during testing. One
idea would be to use 3.0.1-0.YYYYMMDD for

v1.0 plans, rc11 tomorrow
As you can probably guess from my today's burst of activity, I'm no
longer extremely busy. Actually it looks like for the next 3-4 weeks I
don't have anything especially time consuming to do. So it's time to get
Dovecot v1.0 released :)
I've now read all the mails from this list again, and it looks like
pretty much the only problems with rc10 was the mbox assert crash, which

My view on 1.0 release and version numbering
Just throwing out some thoughts here. I know Timo has high standards and
is trying to make 1.0 bug free before calling it 1.0. But I want to
argue for an earlier less perfect 1.0.
Dovecot is already way past the quality of most 1.0 releases. So it is
good enough by common standards. No one really expects a 1.0 release to
be perfect. But - some people don't consider a product ripe until it

Dovecot development status v1.0
Timo,
Regarding:
http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2005-January/006144.html
I would like an estimate of where you are on the path to a
released (dovecot-1.0). I have read your statement regarding
the -stable series and am wondering when we see the first
feature complete -beta of v1.0?
Thank for your hard efforts. I have been a happy customer
for about a year.

Userdb authentication cache
Committed to CVS HEAD already. I think this is small enough change that
it won't break anything too badly for v1.0, but I'd like to get some
testing first. Here's a patch against branch_1_0 CVS and latest nightly
snapshot (looks like they haven't been updating for a while, started
building new a new one now):

Temporary files
In v1.0 .. v1.1 deliver was writing incoming >128k mail to /tmp file (to
avoid reading it all into memory). In v1.2 I moved it to user's home
directory. This slowed deliveries for NFS users. Also people with
filesystem quota had trouble since now user required twice as much
available quota to save a message. The FS quota problem was "solved" by
having quota-fs plugin change the

Major CPU spike for SSL parameters?
I went from a nightly of about 20051117 or so (about alpha4 generation) to
1.0beta1 yesterday, and dovecot is now spinning the CPU furiously apparently
every ~10 minutes per:

pre-1.0.rc27: Index and mbox fixes
I've been doing some stress testing in the last few days and fixing all
the errors I saw. I'm hoping that I've finally really fixed all the
index/mbox problems. So, again I think the only thing left for v1.0 is
the documentation. Please test this nightly snapshot before I'll release
rc27 tomorrow:

1.0.rc23 tomorrow
http://dovecot.org/nightly/dovecot-latest.tar.gz
Would be nice to get some testing before the actual release.
I've now finally gone through all the "TODO" mails in this list and my
INBOX and fixed pretty much every problem I know of. There are still
some mbox bugs, but I can't really get them fixed unless someone figures
out how to reproduce them

1.0rc7 getting near
To avoid having some stupid new problems with 1.0rc7, could you test
this night's snapshot once it arrives in a couple of hours:
http://dovecot.org/nightly/dovecot-20060811.tar.gz
Especially people who had compiling problems with 1.0rc6.
Also everyone who are still experiencing hangs could you try the
suggestions in this mail and tell me what happened:
