messages downloading repeatedly to mozilla/seamonkey pop3 client
Hello Dovecot List,
I am a bit of a sysadmin novice and this is my first time emailing,
so please let me know if I have left some critical information out. I
am supporting a small office network supported primarily by linux
servers. All of my users are using dovecot as a pop3 daemon on a
centOS 5 box, no IMAP users. Seven users are running outlook 2003 on
windows XP, two users are running

repeat downloads of message headers in 1.0rc19
I upgraded one server to 1.0rc19 (from rc15) over the weekend, and have
since received several reports of dovecot erroneously retrieving older
messages as new mail. I've seen this myself intermittently on KMail, and
users have reported it on Thunderbird, Squirrelmail, and Outlook.
I see some things in the archives that suggest that this was a problem in
older 1.0 release candidates, but

One user having reproducible IMAP issues
Dovecot version upgraded to 1.0r26 (did not fix problem).
The server is a CentOS 4 x86 box.
Using ext3 filesystem.
Previous attempts to fix the issue have included simply moving aside
the user's INBOX to recreating a new account from scratch. Sometimes
the email behaves for a while, but within a day is not working
again. In Mail.app (the user's usual mail client) the INBOX folder

pre-1.0.rc27: Index and mbox fixes
I've been doing some stress testing in the last few days and fixing all
the errors I saw. I'm hoping that I've finally really fixed all the
index/mbox problems. So, again I think the only thing left for v1.0 is
the documentation. Please test this nightly snapshot before I'll release
rc27 tomorrow:

Urgent problem: Dovecot fetches the same mails multiple times per POP
I have a problem since a couple of hours:
I manage several mboxes on a virtual server using Dovecot (over POP3).
Until a few hours ago, it worked well, but since 11:50, the e-mail clients which access Dovecot's mailboxes, receive all e-mails new each
time the mailbox is queried.
For example:
15:40 fetches 22 new mails
15:41 fetches the same 22 mails again as new
15:42 fetches the same 22

Hi,
with current test releases SSL doesn't work anymore for me on AIX 4.3

dsync: error with hierarchy separator
Hi list!
I have a problem with transfering mails from mbox to maildir format. On
dovecot wiki I found a dsync tool, which looks good, but returns me an
error:
# dsync -u mail at example.com mirror mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/virtuser_808
dsync(root): Fatal: Mail locations must use the same virtual mailbox
hierarchy separator (specify separator for the default namespace)

mbox sync/lock issue, rc28 and later
Help!
I just noticed this error this morning, we have been getting a
lot of these in rc28 and rc29, not in rc27 or before:
Apr 6 07:22:52 karst dovecot: [ID 107833 mail.error] IMAP(jaearick): mbox file /var/mail/j/jaearick was modified while we were syncing, check your locking settings
Pine coughed up an internal error, no core dump, and dovecot
basically doubled the size of my mailbox by

rc2x seems to break Pegasus Mail
Hi guys,
I upgraded from rc7 to rc24 a couple weeks ago, and noticed today that
Pegasus Mail's IMAP no longer connects. So I put rc27 in, and it
worked, but only for a little while...
I'm not sure what the problem might be, the logs look fine, and I can
still use Horde and Evolution without a problem. Pegasus Mail's error
is unfortunately not helpful.
Restarting rc27 didn't

IMAP: Disconnected: BUG: Unknown internal error (Dovecot 1.0.3)
Hi,
I am getting the following error in the server mail logfile:
> Sep 2 18:39:44 h648123 dovecot: IMAP(<account>)(<PID>): Disconnected: BUG: Unknown internal error
(mail_debug is on, but there is not really much context for this in
the log file, ie. no log events for several minutes, and then it
appears, all of a sudden).
On the client side, it looks like this (with some

I think the only thing still missing from v1.0 is documentation. There
are some unwritten pages in the wiki, and I still haven't bothered

UID inserted in the middle of mailbox errors
Hi,
We are still getting, on a daily basis, users who cannot move messages
to Trash or expunge Trash due to these errors:

Dovecot LDA issues
We've seen two issues come up with Dovecot LDA, both of which have
caused us problems:
1) If the user's home directory does not exist, or is not owned by them,
deliver fails and causes the mail message to bounce back to the
originator. In our environment this happens when our user is moved
to another server (where we move their files, but for up to 24 hours
afterwards,
