separate partition for index/uidlist
Hi! What's a safe place for the separate index and uidlist files? I am planning to configure Quota/FS. Can they reside under dovecot's basedir? Is this a good idea? Does it have any significance where I put those files? Thanks, Daniel

pre-1.0.rc27: Index and mbox fixes
I've been doing some stress testing in the last few days and fixing all the errors I saw. I'm hoping that I've finally really fixed all the index/mbox problems. So, again I think the only thing left for v1.0 is the documentation. Please test this nightly snapshot before I'll release rc27 tomorrow: http://dovecot.org/nightly/dovecot-latest.tar.gz If you've seen any of the

waldtest and nested models - poolability (parameter stability)
Dear All, I'm trying to use waldtest to test poolability (parameter stability) between two logistic regressions. Because I need to use robust standard errors (using sandwich), I cannot use anova. anova has no problems running the test, but waldtest does, indipendently of specifying vcov or not. waldtest does not appear to see that my models are nested. H0 in my case is the the vector of

dovecot deliver tries to setuid but why?
Hi! I've set up postfix(2.4.1) + dovecot(1.0-cvs) + dovecot-lda(1.0-cvs). Dovecot's deliver is running as vmail:vmail (according to postfix's master.cf). Now the problem (when receiving mail): deliver(leva): auth input: leva deliver(leva): auth input: uid=8006 deliver(leva): auth input: gid=8000 deliver(leva): auth input: home=/var/mail/virtual/leva deliver(leva): setuid(8006)

Distributed indexes, maildir_copy_preserve_filename, and Microsoft
Hi, I've just completed a migration from Courier to a Dovecot 1.0.7 (patched RHE 5) which is working great, except for this weirdness of an issue that is impacting a handful of users. My question is that will turning off maildir_copy_preserve_filename help or hurt in a situation where there are multiple servers with their own local INDEX files (uidlist is shared)? The problem is that a

do not lose mail when dovecot is dead
Hi! Recently I've experienced problems with dovecot. Dovecot died silently, what means is that there are no core files, nor any indication in the log files, just the "kevent(): Invalid argument" messages. Dovecot just died, so deliver could not connect to the auth-master socket, which means that messages couldn't been delivered. The problem is that postfix thought that the

master user can not login with digest-md5 password
Hi! I'm trying to use a master user, here is what I'm doing: dovecot.conf: auth default { [...] passdb passwd-file { args = /etc/dovecot.passdb_master pass = yes master = yes } passdb passwd-file { args = /etc/dovecot.passdb } [...] } (Dovecot said that one can not place the passdb containing "master = yes" last, why?) This only works if the master

Disable maildir indexing and dovecot-uidlist on LMTP/LDA delivery
Hello all, Is there a way to use LMTP (or LDA) so that maildir index and dovecot-uidlist are not updated? My setup is such that mail delivery sees user's maildir as write only. This setup works well when using postfix for mail delivery, but when I try to switch to dovecot LMTP the lmtp process wants to read the dovecot-uidlist and fails on insufficient privileges. Is there a way around this

1.0.1: corrupt index on fresh mailbox, ideas?
A new employee started today, when logging into his new mailbox this morning during a walk-through I got a nasty server error response in Thunderbird - something I never see, DC runs smooth as butter for us. Checking the server log I see this: == snip == dovecot: Jul 09 09:38:54 Error: IMAP(xxxxxxx): Maildir /home/x/xxxxxxx/Maildir sync: UIDVALIDITY changed (1183406107 -> 1183999134)

index synchronization during local delivery
Hi there, Now our system will take dovecot as the whole imap back end, and keep the LDA of ours, But our system has our own UID generation mechanism (in dovecot it's incremental from 1), which will be done while local delivery, So when local deliveries, it will first generate the UID, move the mail into maildir, then synchronize the mailbox index, which is part of dovecot LDA does. slow squat fts index creation
Hi all, ive been playing with squat indexes. Up to about 300.000 emails in a single mailbox this was working flawlessly. The search index file is about 500MB at that time. Ive now added some more emails, and at 450.000 or so emails im seeing a serious problem with squat index creation. It takes...f o r e v e r . The .tmp file is being so slowly, it will probably take 2-3 hours to create. Upto

Maildir migration - using separate INDEX and CONTROL directories?
Hi all, I'm working on a migration from Courier to Dovecot, and the courier-dovecot-migrate.pl seems to work ok, but it puts all the metadata files (dovecot-uidlist etc) in the Maildir, while I want to put them in the appropriate places as specified: mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir:INDEX=/var/mail/meta/index/%d/%1n/%1.1n/%n:CONTROL=/var/mail/meta/control/%d/%1n/%1.1n/%n

frequent index rebuilds versus disabled indexes
Ok, here's the short and sweet version of my dilemma. I have a group of servers mounting a shared NFS device to hold mail data for many different domains. Is it worth the load balancing management nightmare of setting up dedicating smtp, pop, and imap to one server (failing over to another in the group if the server goes down) to keep indexes on local disk? It's very tempting to just

Dovecot indexes
Hi, could someone answer my following questions about dovecot indexes? - If I delete dovecot indexes, it recreates them without any problem, right? - If dovecot recreates indexes, it does not affect users (they don't have to download all emails again, seen flag is not lost etc.) or is there any problem? - If I use mail_location = ...:INDEX=MEMORY, it recreates indexes every time dovecot is

Strange index error on NFS after upgrade to CentOS 7 from 6
Hi, I'm running 3 Dovecot director and 6 Dovecot backend on CentOS 6 and Dovecot 2.3.10, with Maildir shared on NFSv3 (on NetApp). Since CentOS 6 will be EOL on November I started to upgrade to CentOS 7 the first Dovecot backend. But after Director start to direct users on new CentOS 7 server some errors, for any users, come up, an example: Aug 21 14:56:41 Error: imap(alessio at
